Hiya,

Seeing as we are all talking about mis-counting....

I've got the two tests in, not great results but they did say they would take the best score from the practice tests and use that instead. So I think I'm in the clear. Relieved is not the word.

I'm better at the more complicted questions than I am the simpler ones. I'm still getting numbers the wrong way round and adding a 1 when there's no need (algebra) - it's silly things like that.

Anyway, this means that we're back on easier bits for a short while and I can start researching tablets.

72 days - OMG. I'm usually done by now but I'm not even half way there. Oh well.

Hope you are all ok and have finished talking about dentists...cake is a much better subject BTW Wink

ChestyCoffin · 13/10/2013 21:59

Good news then farrow Wine

Algebra is nearly as bad as the dentists.

Knackered, so early night here.

I'm in awe of you, farrow.

Hate maths with a passion, and am crap at it. Prefer having a tooth taken out than doing any kind of maths, to be honest.

Have been a good girl and have been looking at tablets, I'm still researching....

I must start making lists of sweeties and decorations etc, otherwise I am going to get stuck with my christmas prep ! I want to be organised and sorted this year, so no mad dashing required.

I live in eternal hope....Wink Grin

ChestyCoffin · 14/10/2013 17:30

I'm making christmas bark and another to be decided mrs

MrsVamos · 15/10/2013 16:09

These feckin' tablets are confuddling me. Angry

Blardy Tesco have sold out of all the coloured Hudl's, only black to order online, with a 14 day wait. Will they have more before Christmas, if I decide to go for that, do you think ? Anyone's guess !

farrow From what I can see, the Nexus nor the Kindle Fire does not come with the micro-hd thingy that the Nook and Hudl do, for extra g's, am I right ?

Asus have a new one out that is supposed to be good, also saw today that Argos is going to be selling a tablet for under £100 from the 16th October.

Slightly put off getting a 'new' one like a Hudl because of the problems that may occur, that you mentioned.

Very interested to see what you think.

farrowandbawl · 15/10/2013 20:03

Mrs,

I would rather buy another SD card anyway (you can get one that stores bags of stuff (32 gig) for about £20 so I wouldn't worry about that too much. Just as long as you can slot it in. From what I've seen you're right, they don't have that option. Depending on how they use the tablet this can be a huge issue or not much of one if they are prepared to delete stuff they have already watched.

Personally I wouldn't use Asus, but I may be biased because I've had bad experiences with their notebooks and customer service was less than helpful, their tablets may be better but I'm not going to be the one to find out.

I have no idea about the argos one.

I'm leaning towards kindle fire but I'm still not sure...I'd love an Ipad but finances won't allow that this lifetime.

farrowandbawl · 15/10/2013 20:04

that and the restricive apps...(ipad)

MrsVamos · 16/10/2013 15:19

Hi farrow

All comments taken on board !

I must admit, I like the look of the Kindle Fire, it looks good, but not if it doesn't allow a memory card. I also like the Nook, which you can choose to have a bit bigger than a 7" for not too much more moolah !

I have heard good things about the Hudl, it looks like for that it will be actually getting hold of one, or 2 in my case ! And it has a micro-memory card slot. Had a quick glance on the Tesco site, and even if they don't have the coloured tablets, you could always get black and then a coloured case for them !

A lot of the companies are confusing, because if you delve into them a bit, they have different names for certain tablets, that all originate from the same place.

I shall just have to ensure they can have a mem card and master the parental controls perhaps ? I am hoping that the DCs will be sensible enough that they wont really need any at the ages they are...

That's what puts me off the ipad, the restrictive apps, plus the £. Just can't justify it when there are other tablets out there that do the job just as well.

You'll have to let me know what you go for !

MrsVamos · 16/10/2013 15:21

I think the thing in the Kindle's favour is that rather than the 8gb the Hudl has, the Fire is available in 16 and 32gb.

I'm assuming that would be plenty of storage really for 2 DCs ?

MrsVamos · 16/10/2013 15:23

I think I am going to have to re-visit info sites and write down things to compare !

My brain is like mush, I get so blooming forgetful, and sit here pondering, then make up my mind, then think "ooh, but WHY didn't I decide on that one, oh, drat, will have to read info again".

I also trust you and the mumsnet lovelies far more than I do any other people to give me the right info ! Grin

MrsVamos · 16/10/2013 15:24

Sorry, waffling and thinking aloud now...I really should stop typing when I do that...oops ! Blush

farrowandbawl · 16/10/2013 17:27

I'm leaning more towards the kindle fire every day.

A 32g will be enough but, as with everything,m they will have to delete stuff at some point. There's only so many films you can have.

I have a 32gig card in my phone, it's holding so far, several bus timetables, 1 film, nearly 4000 music albums..and still have room for more. 32 will be more than enough. You may even get away with 16 gig.

Argos's one is looking really good though. Can support up to 32gig with an sd card, has jellybean as the operating system (peice of cake to use) and is £20 less than the hudl.

farrowandbawl · 16/10/2013 17:32

OK the argos one, is looking a lot better than the kindle fire. It has both front and rear facing cameras for skype, the only thing against it so far, is that the picture resolution isn't as good (but to be honest I am comparing it to an HD product) so it's not actually that bad!

and £40 cheaper.

ChestyCoffin · 16/10/2013 18:51

Evening all Halloween Smile

farrowandbawl · 16/10/2013 19:06

Hello me darlin.

Hows tricks?

ChestyCoffin · 17/10/2013 12:34

A good thanks farrow u?

Friend who lives abroad is home today for a week, so picking her up from airport soon. Very excited Halloween Grin

MrsVamos · 17/10/2013 14:37

Hi All !

farrow I was leaning towards the Hudl, to be honest, just because, as a starter tablet, if they bugger it up, or drop it, at least it's not too expensive to replace....I haven't looked at the Argos one yet, but will do asap. I've heard good things, and as you say, it's cheaper. Not really fussed about the HD aspect, the same as you !

Just one question, forgive me if I'm being a total div here...can films and music be saved onto an sd card ? Or will they only be saved on the system ? It's just I was discussing the merits with someone who said, couldn't the DCs have one mem card for work, and one for fun, so to speak ?

My brain feels fried !

As far as the Hudl goes, I spoke to a lovely guy at Tesco Direct who tells me that you can pre-order the black one, then receive in 14 days delivery. They reckon they have sold approx 80,000 since it's release, but they are sure they will get all colours in stock before Christmas, they are just not sure when...same old story for anything popular ! I'm not too bothered about the colour, I can get different coloured cases for them !

Right, off to read about the Argos one....

MrsVamos · 17/10/2013 14:41

Right, just read about the Argos one, I think that will be my reserve if I can't get the Hudl. Looks OK doesn't it ?

Just need to find out now about if Tesco or Argos will honour things if I buy them at the end of the month and put them away for Christmas ? I don't know if anyone knows ?

I meant to ask when I called Tesco yesterday but forgot, and HE-ing is great, but not too good when trying to make discreet phone calls and little ears may overhear !

MrsVamos · 17/10/2013 14:43

farrow Thanks Thanks

Meant to say, I cannot thank you enough for all your help, you have been tremendous, and helped me to think clearly and logically. I honestly would have been stumped had you not offered advice, bless you !

Mwah ! (((HUGS)))

farrowandbawl · 17/10/2013 19:48

Yes you can put films onto an SD card.

I know you can on a memory stick too which will plug into any USB port. So there's another option.

farrowandbawl · 17/10/2013 19:50

Ohh Chesty, I hope your friend enjoys her stay!

ChestyCoffin · 17/10/2013 20:06

Thanks Halloween Smile

Now "having" to go out and drink wine tomorrow, would be rude not too!

Am home, stiff from a 5 hour drive but lovely to see her.

farrowandbawl · 17/10/2013 20:14

Awww, that's a friend..Someone who is willing to drive 5 hours to see you.
