Lump under 9 year old daughter’s nipple!!

Hi can anyone help please anyone had similar with there 9 year old daughter. My daughter has a small lump under her nipple and its only under one nipple. The other nipple is completely flat. What could it be??

It’s probably a breast bud, it’s the first sign of breast development and it can occur in one side before the other.

I meant to say that my DD had this happen around that age.

I was also going to agree with breast buds. I remember around the age of 10 and 11 having lumps directly under each nipple and they were incredibly painful if I accidentally bumped into something. They stopped hurting as my breasts filled out. But take her to be checked out for peace of mind.

Yes, breast bud. I also panicked when this happened to DD only on one side but it's very normal.

I did and doc said it might be a cyst or breast bud. Nothing sinister but how can docs be so sure? Without scan?

@shaz83 - they don’t go away, they just keep growing and eventually develop into breasts.

As the breasts grow they will become unnoticeable. That was my personal experience anyway.

How do breast buds feel? So it’s normal for 1 side to have one and the other nipple to be completely flat?

Oh ok did you have 1 on each side or did 1 side start first? How old was you?

did your daughter have a scan like how did u know for sure?

Likely to be a breast bud. My DM took me to the Drs at a similar age. I'm 52 now.

@Shaz83 - they feel like small disc-shaped rubbery lumps under the nipple. They can be quite tender/sensitive. It’s perfectly normal for one side to develop before the other.

Did your mom get you a scan or just went off with what dr said? And was reassured.. it’s just I don’t understand how do they know for sure without a scan.

Sorry if this sounds blunt but no dr is going to order a scan on a perfectly normal breast bud that will develop into breasts in puberty probably not very far away!

If she hasn't developed breasts in a year I would go back to them.

Or pay privately and then you'll subject her to an ultrasound scan to be told 'yes its normal'

Your daughter doesn't need a scan on a perfectly normal breast bud, OP.

She's developing. That's what happens. Don't worry about it.

It's completely normal for one to appear before the other.

They know for sure because it's puberty.

They don't go away, they develop into breasts.

Girls get these, all girls. They don't disappear, they become breasts! Try not worry. Things get sore when they are growing, legs etc. It's called 'growing pains'. If you're really worried pay for a scan or a second opinion. I doubt the GP will refer you on the NHS, they don't think it's anything unusual.

Yes totally normal to get one months ahead of the other. My friends dd was only 7, they did check as so young but was nothing

I went to two doctors and 1 said it could be this it could be that etc. second doctor said it could be a cyst or breast bud… but Normally there are both breast buds on both nipples and feels more softer that was her response but yet she said it maybe a breast bud or cyst…So obviously I’m very confused…. The scan has been rejected and now I’m thinking if the doctors were not 100% certain then why has it been rejected??

Why did you go to two doctors?

Because the first doctor was not sure what it is.
