OP- respectfully…. What are you doing to your poor daughter subjecting her to multiple examinations for BOOBS. Big boobs or small boobs, every woman started her boobs with breast buds. You need to chill out or you’re going to have the girl freaking out over every weird but perfectly normal bodily change she’s going to be going through for the next five or more years. With her age and your description it’s obviously just her breast buds.

Did your mom get you a scan or just went off with what dr said? And was reassured.. it’s just I don’t understand how do they know for sure without a scan.

I'm in my 60s. One breast took longer develop than the other, to the extent that Mum consulted a nurse behind my back. As is normal, one side is still smaller, but not noticeably so.

Never had a scan until I reached my 50s and had my cancer screening scans.

I'm just wondering why the OP doesn't remember from her own experience as an adolescent.

Every girl develops breast buds. A lot of the time one will develop before the other. Usually the other side will catch up within a few weeks.
Breast cancer in children is extremely rare. When you say "How can the GP know without a scan?" the implication would be that you have to scan every single 9 year old when their breast buds appear. There is no where near enough resource to do that, and absolutely no need. Most GPs will have felt a few breast buds and can confidently identify that is what they are. I think you were unlucky to see an inexperienced GP first time round.

I'll add that Mum's concern was that one was noticeably larger than the other when I was in my late teens, but there was less than a cup size in it. It never bothered me. (Thank you, "The Jackie" magazine!)

When I found out that Mum had seen a nurse who - without seeing me - had made noises about a breast implant, I was furious.

Do you not remember these yourself OP. When my dd mentioned them to me I was like yes I had them when I was growing brewers. And I was flat chested until 17. Do you have health anxiety?

WearyAuldWumman · 24/09/2024 21:18

You were asking about ages, OP. I was 10 or 11 when I began to develop. I got my first "trainer" bra when I was 12.

If the doctor said what you guys are saying. It is a breast bud. And were very confident in what they were saying then I would be fine. But being that 2, doctors are saying different things how can I feel reassured….first 1 said it could be numerous of things… second doctor said it could be a cyst or breast bud just keep an eye on it.. so how would that reassure me. She even said that my daughter should have 2 breast buds 1 on each side… so obviously I’m feeling very anxious.

Even if a cyst... cysts are mostly harmless but I'm betting buds.
I had a fair few growing up.

What's the point of asking for help if you're ignoring everyone?

Balloonhearts · 24/09/2024 21:26

One side first is normal. Most people have one breast bigger than the other while developing.

Did she mean she should have one on each side growing at exactly the same time, or did she mean she should have one on each side (as in at some point). Either she was mistaken or her meaning was lost, but either way… it’s a breast bud and nothing to be anxious about. Even IF it’s a cyst (it’s not) then most cysts are completely harmless and go away on their own.

For your daughter’s sake, stop overly worrying about this.

I’m not ignoring anyone if anything I feel like maybe I have been very unlucky in see inexperienced gp’s there is a dr at my surgery who has passion in children’s health and is a paediatric. I should have gone to her… I’m only like this because I didn’t get a definitive answer…. But you guys honestly are helping because now I know it’s not just my daughter. I can’t even remember having breast buds my self…

No health anxiety I have explained why I am anxious in the post to 1 off the posters.. and no I don’t remember having breast buds… didn’t know they existed if I’m honest didn’t know what they were. Do you know when I phoned up a pharamacist they were like get her scanned it could be cancer! For all you know not just breast cancer! I was like what! Then it stemmed from there. I phoned the pharmacist because at the time I couldn’t get to a gp as it was the weekend.

OP posts:
GladAllOver · 24/09/2024 21:48

You phoned a pharmacist to ask about your daughter's breast buds??

Calm down, and don't keep checking your daughter's chest. You'll frighten her!

Yozzer87 · 24/09/2024 22:30

Shaz83 · 23/09/2024 17:43

Oh ok did you have 1 on each side or did 1 side start first? How old was you?

I remember having them on both sides, can't remember if one started before the other. I was about 10/11.

Well you can only get 2 to be fair.

TheShellBeach · 25/09/2024 08:19

FFS there's no hope for health services in this country if a pharmacist (who clearly had no idea what they're on about) and a GP (who presumably studied physiology) don't know what breast buds are.
SMH.

Exactly! So obviously I’m not going to be reassured! This place is the only place I probably got more information from!

Did you take your son to the gp to find it was a breast bud? My 2 doctors I seen don’t know if it’s a cyst or a breast bud! And to monitor it which makes me more anxious…

No I called them and they told me it would be a breast bud and can be normal during puberty.

No, just my gp

GildedRage · 25/09/2024 14:16

Pediatrician is a Dr who specializes in children’s health. It’s a specialty.
I suppose if you can afford it, you could book/pay private.
