Called back to consultant after DS brain MRI

hello, my DS aged 7 has been having nausea, sickness and headaches since November and through lots of pushing managed to get an MRI which was on Monday eve - we were told to expect results in 2 weeks. Today I received a phone call from the paediatric consultants secretary asking myself and hubby to go in tomorrow at noon. I’m terrified. Has anyone else got experience of this? What’s scared me most is that they have asked me to bring hubby. They have requested that we don’t bring DS. I don’t even know what I’m asking for on this thread, maybe someone that has been in a similar situation? Thanks x

Hi OP. Friend of mine also attends JR with her DS who has a brain tumour.

She recomends this charity www.thebraintumourcharity.org

And to ask about Clic Sargent

Another one thinking of you all today. As a many surgeries mama I echo what another person said about sleeping or resting if you can while DC is in theatre I know it's easier said than done but I use theatre time to sit outside if possible, have some food and just "stop" and breathe maybe listen to some soothing things on your phone etc like on YouTube there are lots of lovely things. Then you can get back to DC a bit more rested when they are back.

Thinking of you all today!

Wishing your boy well. Hope today goes as smoothly as possible and he has a quick recovery.

Somuchgoo · 27/06/2022 10:17

If he is taken to ICU after the surgery (we were) you probably won't be able to stay overnight (i or more precisely, not allowed to sleep there).

Its the hardest thing, but it's ok to go back to Ronald etc to sleep that first night. He'll be dosed up, and the nurses are amazing, and you'll need your strength for when he is properly awake and needs you (the following few days).

They'll have your phone number, and you can ring them during the night to check on him. It felt totally unnatural and wrong leaving her in ICU, but you can't run on absolutely empty.

Thinking of you.

I thought I’d pop a quick update - scan today shows the slightly bigger than golf ball sized tumour is in his cerebellum and he also has a blockage (not a mass) in his spine. Op taking place on Monday which will be at 9 and for the majority of the day. I’m feeling weirdly ok, DS is chatting up all the nurses and although anxious is exploring our new environment. Staff couldn’t be more helpful and attentive. Have met with so many people including the surgeon/s. A biopsy will be done which will take 7-10 days to come back, I’m expecting cancer but we shall see xx
