Called back to consultant after DS brain MRI

nearlymumof5 · 22/06/2022 18:08

hello, my DS aged 7 has been having nausea, sickness and headaches since November and through lots of pushing managed to get an MRI which was on Monday eve - we were told to expect results in 2 weeks. Today I received a phone call from the paediatric consultants secretary asking myself and hubby to go in tomorrow at noon. I’m terrified. Has anyone else got experience of this? What’s scared me most is that they have asked me to bring hubby. They have requested that we don’t bring DS. I don’t even know what I’m asking for on this thread, maybe someone that has been in a similar situation? Thanks x

FYI you might find that tomorrow and Thursday are “bad” days for him. I was warned about it post my surgery - just as you come round more on days two to three plus all the bruising and swelling etc is at it’s peak. It’s short lived but he might not seem as good as he has been.

Good news to hear they got it all. It’s often a sign that it’s not as sinister as other types of tumour, but of course that needs to be confirmed by pathology.

The John Radcliffe will always have a special place in my heart. They literally saved my life. Thinking about you!

This is good advice.

For us recovery was very up and down. She had a series of rare post operative complications that started a few days later. Hopefully you'll avoid that, and your son will have a straight path to recovery, but try not to panic if it's more complicated than that. He's in good hands, and they will take amazing care of him.

Oioicaptain · 28/06/2022 20:58

Oh my goodness OP! I am soooo glad to hear that the surgery has gone well. That's absolutely brilliant that they were able to remove all of it. I think that finding out is the worst part. Once treatment starts you move into practicality mode which gives a different focus. I was thinking of you all yesterday. Xx

SuzyQ12 · 28/06/2022 21:00

So glad to hear the surgery went well today, wishing your boy all the best for a full recovery xx

@BotCrossHuns we chose to have a much needed sleep at Ronald McDonald rather than sleep on a chair in high dependency where it’s extremely noisy and quite cold. He’s on continuous morphine currently and is definitely feeling lots of pain in his head and neck. He was administered drugs to stop him vomiting which one of the side effects was waking him fully and being a silly billy. He’s definitely not recovered yet - obviously. He’s doing great though.

Ronald McDonald always makes me feel better too because of being able to get happy meals after treatments!
Just keep going.
You don't need to break.maybe your do u g exactly as your body mind needs you to.dont feel anxious waiting for your fall.bur also no it's ok to go scream in a field somewhere a week big sorry sobs.
Keep taking one step at a time.do not predict. Do NOT fmgo back reliving the last few days.that way madness lies. Be in the now.
What can you do now to make yourself feel better and safe mentally and physically.
If it feels too much might I suggest a journal of sorts.just a thought dump book.doesnt need to be pretty or make sense.just having this thing there to scrape all those tangles that can come into the head.litwrally taking them out your head.it can really bloody help.possibly for your dc too.i can't imagine how your dc is hanging in there.brave your all bloody marvelous.

kateandme · 29/06/2022 05:47

Also keep talking to us.we are here mostly round the clock.

Hm2020 · 29/06/2022 13:16

CannibalQueen · 29/06/2022 14:43

That is good news. Kids are amazingly resilient. Hugs from me.

nearlymumof5 · 29/06/2022 14:50

@BookwormButNoTime thank you for the heads up. He’s been very poorly with pain today but I’d prepared myself due to your comment. He’s still in HDU but mainly because of lack of beds up on robin ward (I think). Still taking each day as it comes and so grateful to be here and for him to be treated xx

It’s also funny re my user name - I must have registered on mumsnet when I was pregnant with my number 5 (the one who happens to be poorly now). I’m now a mum of 6! Oldest 22 and youngest 2! Thought I’d throw in that fun fact 😄

Sorry to hear he's in pain. I hope they are able to keep him comfortable, and that he recovers very swiftly.

Frazzled2207 · 29/06/2022 16:19

wow op I don't know how you're managing with 6 children but manage you will!

Sorry to hear he's been poorly today but I'm sure that will be expected after such a major op. Be aware that this thread will fill up, I'm sure we'd all really like to continue to send supportive messages if you set up a part two x
