You should ring in. Their custom serv is terrible. The lack of communication is horrendous and mentally draining. You should definitely ring in to try find out. Personally, I think they need more training as I just rang in now, and she was giving me the wrong info until I had corrected her. She was quite defensive, but I walked her through her mistakes, and she then apologised.

@mkaislam i phoned this morning and she wasn’t very nice or much help. I don’t think I’ll bother phoning again. It’s stressful enough without having people like that on the phone. Thank you though xx

Journeytosober · 14/02/2024 12:50

I think this a big problem with this process. The customer service is so pot luck. This morning I was told exactly what I had been awarded and for how long, others have been told to wait for the letter. Some people are told 27 weeks wait, others are told a lot sooner. If there was a consistent message then it wouldn’t be so bad, but the different advice is just boggling. Our case was with DM for six weeks, I was told a decision would be made in two. Turns out the decision was actually made on the 19th Jan but they’ve been waiting for an NI number to be assigned. If they explained all this, hours of my time and theirs wouldn’t be wasted.

I did wonder to myself in four years time whether the process will have got even worse or improved !

It’s honestly ridiculous. They should have an online system where we can check for the claim status ourselves, etc. rather than going through people who basically incompetent at doing their jobs.

did they not give you any timeframes, nothing? Ridiculous!

@mkaislam she said it’s with a DM but didn’t have a clue how long they’d had it. Asked me why he hadn’t been to school since Christmas and interrupted me when I tried to say and said, it doesn’t matter just get the school to send something in! I said it’s half term next week and she said, well it’s only Wednesday! I asked her if she’d put a note on anyway and she said, well I will once you get off the phone. She was just really off and talking to me like crap tbh. I’ve had a bit of a rubbish week on top of everything else, so just knew I shouldn’t have phoned.

I think i’m just going to leave it now. Feel a bit drained from it all at the moment. X

Just to put your mind at rest, we didn’t get anyone to write in the ‘people that know them’ bit at all for our son. We sent in evidence of his SALT assessments and paediatrician report (even though the paediatrician report was 18 months out of date) with a big write up and were awarded MRC for 2 years.

Did you have any evidence from the school/do you know if they contacted the school?

All I sent was a paediatrician report, a letter to say DD had been accepted on ASD waitlist and an OT report. Nothing from the school and noone wrote in the 'person who knows them' bit.

I'm just worried they're going to contact school as she mostly masks there.

Chibbert · 14/02/2024 13:48

Found out today DLA application was approved by seeing money on the bank 😂.

Seems to be middle rate care.

Scan date 09/10/2023
Payment into bank 13/02/2024
That makes it 18 weeks
This was our first application for DLA

RainsbowandBunnies · 14/02/2024 13:55

It's even more nerve wracking when with a dm 😂 I didn't think it was possible... did anyone call the day after it went to dm? 😂 I'm scared to call now they're mostly horrid on the phone x

why did she ask that? She was being nosey! If she speaks to you like crap, then don’t take it. Give it back to them. The lady on the phone thought she was clever, but ended up saying sorry to me. Show them who is the boss. Just because we are claiming DLA for our children, does not mean we are less than them. Snobs!

Lisa3kids · 14/02/2024 14:15

I still haven’t done my sons MR letter is dated the 30th jan so need to get my bum into gear I feel so nervous doing it as I’m scared I will say the wrong thing the reasons why he got turned down were petty and makes me wonder the guide lines they follow 1 was as he can style his own hair he can tend to his own personal needs not mentioning the fact I stated he needs help getting in and out the bath/shower washing hair etc he’s 15 and a big lad it’s not easy also since the claim was put in he’s been referred to two more health services do I put that in the MR?? Well done to everyone been awarded the process is horrendous

No he was only 2 when we applied and doesn’t attend nursery so I had no one else to put on there. I put his SALT contact details on but she didn’t mention that try they’d contacted her so I don’t think they did.

When I applied for my daughter (school age), I put contact details of the school on there but as far as I’m aware they didn’t contact school. I only put in evidence of OT assessment and then someone who supports her emotional well-being wrote on the people who know them bit.

Having applied and been granted MRC for two kids, I suspect that the enormous write up I did for both kids was most helpful as it showed in great detail the care that I’m providing over and above what other kids their age require. That’s what the criteria says. It’s more about what extra care they require rather than the needs they have. So I focused on what I was doing to help them more than what their needs were if that makes sense.

Louiseash · 14/02/2024 14:24

Scan date 12-11 and have just got a letter for say I’m entitled to HRC and LRM same as the last two years. So surprised with being in November! I had no texts or letters before today!

@mkaislam it was like she was being funny as if he just couldn’t be bothered to go to school! I normally would, but I just haven’t got it in me at the minute.

They definitely should have an online system. Life is stressful enough without waiting years for assessments, a 5 month DLA wait and a (mostly) 2hr wait to speak to someone who then talks to you like crap!

Thank you for replying. I know people on here just get how hard it is sometimes. X

Totally off topic so I do apologise, but my sons MRI appointment has arrived. His Dr wants it done to see if there's any underlying issues with his brain and to see if it shows anything that could explain why he is the way he is. I am so nervous for it. Has any of you lovely lot been through the same with your own child? And if so, any words of wisdom or calming strategies you can give me please

WhereDidTheTimeGo888 · 14/02/2024 14:35

@mkaislam i’d phoned up to ask to put a note on that he’s total school refusal now since Christmas. Just wanted a note put on the system that things are worse. X

@Journeytosober i think the whole process needs scrapped. We should send our forms in (which are rubbish) and then have a telephone appointment to talk to a DM, so they can ask us questions and we can get across properly how things are. They can contact anyone they need to after that. The whole thing wouldn’t take as long and we wouldn’t be sitting trying to ring people who seem to have no clue about the process. We should have an online account so we can see where things are at.

I can’t believe you sat and worried for all of that time when it was already awarded. Happy you’re all sorted now though and don’t even have to think about the whole mess for a while x

Philippa83 · 14/02/2024 14:41

@Journeytosober great news for award. Did they say when your payment should arrive. I called a week ago and they said an award was likely a within 2 wks. Just to save me calling again

Margot82x · 14/02/2024 14:57

@Mrssnee16 Sending you hugs! I know how daunting it can be, will your child be under anaesthetic? My eldest girl has to have regular MRI’s due to having complex epilepsy, whenever she goes down I get myself a hot drink and put in my headphones and listen to podcasts or audiobooks to try and distract my mind. The appointment will be over before you know it ❤️ xx

Margot82x · 14/02/2024 14:58

@Louiseash congratulations on you’re award, they seem to be getting through claims a lot quicker! Xx

Emma2345 · 14/02/2024 15:11

they said it’s dependant on when it was awarded but generally it’s paid on a Tuesday (although I’ve seen others report other days) he said to call again next Wednesday if it hasn’t landed

Mrssnee16 · 14/02/2024 15:22

@Margot82x @Emma2345 thankyou so much for your kind words. Toby is 3 and due to his sensory issues he will be under sedation for the scan. I had mentioned to his Dr that I was concerned about cerebral palsy due to his traumatic labour, I was told during 3rd trimester that I was at risk of a cordal prolapse and this did happen during labour resulting in an emergency c section. He also has states of just zoning out, staring off into space and laughing for absolutely no reason. All these things make him the way he is and I love him for it all, I think im just scared of being told there is a problem with his brain, other than the issues I already know about 😔
