Do you already have a claim with UC? If so then you can have the disabled child element added onto your entitlement before deductions even if you work.

If you’ll be starting a new claim then you can add the element even if you work however all amounts can still be deducted due to your earnings. I hope that makes sense

Caitlyn59 · 04/11/2023 22:17

Hi do they deduct from your wage or DLA .

Caitlyn59 · 04/11/2023 22:20

@PinkMoscatoLover hi the extra for disabled child element , if you qualify or receive it do they deduct it from DLA or wage , I haven’t got a clue x

PinkMoscatoLover · 04/11/2023 22:29

@Caitlyn59 do you receive UC already? It’ll be easier for me to explain once I know your answer. Feel free to PM me if you’d like

Caitlyn59 · 04/11/2023 22:34

@PinkMoscatoLover no i used to about 4 year ago

Caitlyn59 · 04/11/2023 22:37

@PinkMoscatoLover if you don’t claim uc because your just few pound over to claim , what or how do you claim the disability child element,

Caitlyn59 · 04/11/2023 22:41

@PinkMoscatoLover then if your still registered but don’t claim anything how do you go about claiming the disabled child element

PinkMoscatoLover · 04/11/2023 22:50

@Caitlyn59 I’m trying to understand your posts but they’re not coherent so sorry if I’ve misunderstood!

If you have a claim with UC but have been awarded £0 in recent months, then you can do a change of circumstances to inform UC of the disabled child element. The disabled child element will gets added to your entitlement however you still may not receive it if your wages wipe out your entitlement.

So depending on how much you get paid within your assessment period, you may have the disabled child element on your claim but all elements can be deducted due to your earnings.

So if you’ve been getting a £0 award then you may or may not receive the full £146 as it depends on how much your entitlement is and how much your wages are

Caitlyn59 · 04/11/2023 22:55

Hi
I’ve not received any universal credit for over 4 year , but didn’t know if still be able to get into it

Caitlyn59 · 04/11/2023 22:58

@PinkMoscatoLover hi I understand now what you are saying, I didn’t know if I would still be able to get into it as not claimed for over 4 yr .
thank you for your help . X

PinkMoscatoLover · 04/11/2023 23:00

@Caitlyn59 ah got you, I thought you meant you had a current claim but had a nil award due to your earnings.

You can only get the disabled child element and carer element via UC/tax credits. Tax credits don’t accept new applicants as everyone is moving over to UC. If you want to claim for the disabled child element then you can sign up for UC. Again, if your deductions are too much then it’ll wipe out your earnings.

You’ll be able to have your monthly award of DLA without claiming anything via UC as not everyone can. I hope that helps and makes sense

Caitlyn59 · 04/11/2023 23:10

@PinkMoscatoLover hi
it was just that I had seen people saying they work and were going to put in for the disabled child element, I didn’t know how it worked or the ins and out of it , as it seemed others were thinking you could get it even if working but not the carers elements, as this is first time claim for DLA

PinkMoscatoLover · 04/11/2023 23:20

@Caitlyn59 regardless of whether you work or not, you can have the carers element and the disabled child element added to your UC claim even if you work.

I work part time and I receive UC. I have the carer and disabled child element on my claim within my entitlements. You have to be receiving UC to have the elements added onto your claim. If you don’t claim UC then you’ll receive the four weekly DLA amount

Caitlyn59 · 04/11/2023 23:32

@PinkMoscatoLover hi , thank you for your help , I wasn’t sure if you could sign up for uc , and get the disabled child element , as extra with the DLA , I didn’t know how it all worked , it was with seen other comments about it , thank you

Caitlyn59 · 04/11/2023 23:34

@PinkMoscatoLover , if they deduct it off the DLA then it’s pointless as it’s 6 and 2 ,3s so to speak .

PinkMoscatoLover · 04/11/2023 23:40

@Caitlyn59 it’s not deducted from the DLA amount. The DLA amount isn’t touched and goes directly to your bank account.

To answer your question, no you won’t be able to sign up to UC and solely claim the disabled child element if you receive DLA
