Hi all,

Hope everyone finds out soon 😊

We've had our daughters DLA awarded last month and now we have won our battle over her EHCP and will be getting a plan. Originally they refused to assess but we got that over turned.

Out of interest how long does UC disability element and carers element back date pay take? Requested a few weeks ago but still with DM.

Mrsstephens04 · 14/10/2023 20:16

What does everyone say when they ring up for an update, if you don't mind me asking? Is it just literally "hello I'm calling for an update on such & such's claim" or do people call for a reason and just ask for an update while their on thr phone?

Yep exactly that. My scan date is 11/08 so I only called to confirm the forms had been received as I never got a letter. Turns out it was lost for about 5 weeks🙃

You can just call and say you’re asking for an update on the claim. They’ll ask for the reference number and other details to confirm who you are before they give you an update. Some can be a bit shitty whereas some can be really nice so don’t feel bad about asking for an update

PinkMoscatoLover · 14/10/2023 21:21

Whoops I literally just repeated what @Mumtotwoboys121 said. Sorry!

That’s great news! My local authority have also refused to assess my DD and I just sent off the written appeal to tribunal last week:) I hope I’ll be in the same position as you shortly🤞🏾

In regards to back payment it depends. Some are quicker than others. I waited 2 weeks until back payment was confirmed but others have waited months. There isn’t a specific time frame but you can chase it up via your journal

Mrsstephens04 · 14/10/2023 21:26

Thank you, I'm only on week 12 (almost) scan date was 26/07 so still well too early for ot close to having a decision but I did think about ringing at around 16wks to ask for an update. Just wasn't sure if they minded giving updates or would rather me wait, but I think il ring when I get to 16 weeks x

Mrsstephens04 · 14/10/2023 21:29

Ahh thank you. My scab date was 26/07 so still abit early for an update yet I'd have thought only creeping into week 12 but I was going to maybe ring when I get to 16 weeks, just wasn't sure what to say

Thanks and hopefully you get some good news regarding your EHCP. Luckily we got ours overturned at mediation and didn't go to tribunal.

We were then worried about the lack of information the professionals were supplying during the assessment. Luckily the EP statement carries the most weight and it went to panel last week and agreed to a plan. Next part is the draft plan which could be the next battle.

Fingers crossed for you 🤞

It's nice to know I'm not the only one struggling with the wait!

It was about 3.30am last night and I've been same all last week which isn't great with having to be up at 6.30am for work.

Really hope I hear soon it'll prob get worse everyday up until decision knowing me my anxiety is through the bloody roof.

Even thinking to myself it's very rare people get texts so I might not even know for another 2 week as if I got awarded late next week back pay wouldn't be in until week after that I'm just done with this already 😂😂

Going to need sedating at this rate hahahah
We got this ladies really hope we all get good outcome

I am exactly the same @MummyBrx im just not shutting off to sleep and then awake through the night multiple times with my boy too and then early starts and it’s triggering my migraines. Just want to know either way. I didn’t think i would feel like this.
what was your scan date again?

PinkMoscatoLover · 14/10/2023 21:37

@AutisticDaughter ah that’s great! I didn’t bother with mediation as the appeal is only a written appeal so no need to go to court or anything. Good luck with the draft! Feel free to join us on the pub chat on the SN Chat board. It’s a great, supportive space. Wishing you all the best:)

AutisticDaughter · 14/10/2023 21:41

@PinkMoscatoLover Thanks. Wishing you well 😊

MummyBrx · 14/10/2023 23:28

I have seen people saying about UC backdating payments, is that for the child disability element? Do you have to ask for them to backdate?... Sorry this is my first time claiming for my son, we are still waiting on a decision our scan date was 29/06 so hopefully a couple more weeks till we hear something xx

Morning everyone - I was recently awarded MRC and was wondering if anyone knew how look it took for carers allowance claim to take and for universal credit to backdate and do COC? thank you in advance :)

CrazySars · 15/10/2023 12:21

@MummyBrx
Im exactly the same dates with scan date and message dates

Hopefully we will here in the next few days
X

JME85 · 15/10/2023 12:31

@CrazySars @MummyBrx I’m exact same dates too. Are you going to phone for an update in the next few days? x

LGR004 · 15/10/2023 12:52

@Boymummyof2 same date as me 29/06 ! We will be 16 weeks on Thursday , I sent off additional information a week ago now calling tomorrow to see if it’s been scanned in with his other documents and assessment as well as finding out any updates! I’ll pop a message on tomorrow if I get through to let you know the outcome of what they say! I did actually call at 13 weeks and she said it will be going to a DM at about 17 weeks ! However that was 3 weeks ago almost and god knows if they will change it to 18-19 week for DM but I’ll let you know any update I get ! Fingers crossed the wait isn’t too much longer for it if my LO is awarded or we’ll be going for MR ! Hoping for the best for all you lovely ladies and gents and I’ll update when I get through tomorrow! ❤️

I don’t know if you all know but for those whose children have an award, and if the parent receives a qualifying benefit, your child may be entitled to a grant for various things from the Family Fund.
Worth having a look x

Are we eligible? - Family Fund

To decide if a family is eligible for a grant, we look at income and impact of disability on a child. Check our list of eligibility criteria.

You’ll need to ask them to backdate the disabled child and/or carer element to the date of the award and they’ll do it. You’ll have to ask though otherwise they won’t automatically backdate like DLA
