DLA Wait Times Part 9 (2023)

Thought it was time for a new thread :)

Hi everyone sorry for the long post just wanted to try and get all the information across best I can in hope for some information.
My boy is 12 and has received dla Higher care and lower mobility without any issues with renewals for the last 6 Years I've always just sent away forms with any new evidence if needed. Back in november I received letters informing me that my carers allowance would be stopping as my child didn't receive qualifying benefits. When I rang DWP to check what this was they stated that his renewal forms hadn't been received. I had sent them off months prior. As per their advice I filled out another form and send that away mid December it was only February 3rd after weeks of contacting them to see if they had received it or if I need to complete another form and gather evidence all over again that they said they had received my form and that I was looking at end of may for a decision. I explained the entire situation and they couldn't tell me if or how far back my claim would go if everything is awarded as previously. It states online that if a claim form is sent back within 6 weeks that the claim will start from the date on the form however the DWP have my scan date as 6 weeks and 5 days after I initially sent the form. They did say there had been trouble with royal mail throughout December and new year and that they have a backlog to deal with. I just wanted to know if anyone has had a situation similar to my own and can shed any light or give any advice ? Thanks in advance. X

That sounds awful @Ccjp. Do you have proof of posting so you can show when you first sent the original renewal, that they have kost?

No nothing at all as I just assumed everything would be fine. a bit naïve on my part.
i suppose all I can do is wait. I have rang a few times but every time they just tell me again how long the current wait times are. Xx

@SleepingRedSnowBootsAndThePea i never said autism wasn’t a medical condition I asked if anyone was claiming for just chronic illness!
well my son is only 5 and his chronic illness is very hard to live with!

@MG811216 thats awful I truly hope you get what ur child deserves. Seems the whole system can be so wrong sometimes. Fight it all the way! I hope it’s a speedy process for u x

Can someone tell me if DWP works on Saturdays? And how long a claim is usually with a decision maker? I was told on Monday my child's form is with a DM but as of yet not heard anything? Does this mean they have declined?

I'm sure I've read somewhere that DWP work overtime on a weekend but not sure if all dm's do overtime. I was told my child's claim was with a dm when I spoke to someone on Tuesday and I've heard nothing either. Can I ask when was your scan date?

@Snickerdoodles19 hi, are you giving them a call on Monday? Your renewal ends on Tuesday right? Mine ends in 1 week i might call on Wednesday. I just don't understand how they can leave it right until the end like this. Like last day its due to end!
I've had my carers allowance stopped now im just wanting to know the decision so I can update them. Its so stressful and frustrating. Awful that they leave it this late. Keep me updated!

@Proudmum2008 Hi, my form was sent off on the 8th December I think scanned on the 13th December.

@Nicnac91 hi, yes I’m going to give them a call and see if a decision has been made as this is ridiculous now! It’s putting me off doing it again, can’t you ring carers and explain the situation to them? I’m sure I read here there was a 1 month time limit for dla to update carers

Morning, I’ve just realised I am entitled to the Carer’s element of UC (since April last year) . I wasn’t aware as never been entitled to CA due to earnings. Have asked for this to be backdated… does anyone know how long a decision maker takes to review a backdating request?

@Nicnac91 iv also had my carers stopped I had a lettter yesterday and my son’s renewal stops in just under two weeks.. my anxiety is so bad. I phoned yesterday and it’s still not with a dm. I just feel like he won’t get it again 😢 I have never had to wait this long

Our scan date was 7/12/22. I've been told the same as you that claim form is with a decision maker. That was start of the week. I wonder how much longer it will take!

Currently waiting on a claim for daughter , I get carers element for mum , I've been off work sick for a while too so awaiting a LCWRA assesment , can anyone tell me how it all works together please I'm confused . Would I be eligible to claim the lcwra payment and the carers element or ? I'm just confused

@Boymom10 hi, i know the feeling.. its making me so anxious! I phoned last week and they said they weren't looking at renewals until right towards the end. My sons is due to end 19th so a weeks time and I've heard nothing. I'm going to call them again next week, i hate not knowing! It makes you doubt everything. but fingers crossed we will get a decision soon. Its been a long wait :(

@Supermom92 I could be wrong here as definitely not a pro with how benefits etc work but I'm sure I've seen somewhere you can't claim careers allowance if you are on LCWRA.

It's insane isn't it @AnxietyMumma. I have a stage two complaint with SS and the statutory deadline for their response was over two months ago. OTs do nothing. Schools do nothing. Diagnoses, therapy and and even operations for my children I've had to fund privately because NHS and CAMHS take the tax money but don't appear to actually exist. Blue Badge I applied for due to my own mobility issues and I've been waiting for, for over a year now. I suppose I shouldn't have been surprised that the DWP also can't read but honestly. 🙄🙄🙄 You have my sympathy.

@Caseymayy thankyou does put my mind at ease that possibility my daughters will be with them too. Hope we all get some good news in the coming weeks.

@lixx i actually checked my bank after I sent that message and my son has been awarded (upcoming payment) My scan date was 29/11 so maybe wait to see?

@Caseymayy that's great news. Yeah hoping il have some news next week.
