Can i confess................. mine isn't a lakeland one, I bought it in Scotland at Stirling Mills Cook Shop

Of course it is far superior than the Lake land one.

EM - I've got loads to do now I've finished work as off out tonight but I'll email you about getting together

MaureenMLove · 16/01/2008 18:07

Yeah but, mine have got gold plated handles! BTW, when you said 'the big one' how did you know which one was my big one, if you haven't got the same one, you fraudster you!

Looney, I am not suprised by your luck at all. I believe a predicted a good and positive 2008 to you in about November! I am a witch, didn't you know?

shoshe · 16/01/2008 18:08

Ahh that might be your problem Mo, I only have two rings! and yes they have to be well cooked.

I WANT A POTATO RICER .
No Lakeland here, where else can I buy one - tomorrow?!!!

LT - Could you send me a recording of your wonderful childminding voice that I could use so that I can get parents to use me just by talking to me?! Actually, getting parents to ACTUALLY call would be a good start . Congrats though, seems things are really going well for you at the moment which is fab.

looneytune · 16/01/2008 18:11

Mo - actually, when I last saw our fab tarot reader (a rainbow witch) she told us dh would leave his job in Dec and start a new job in Jan (we didn't even know he was going to be made redundant and she's got the months spot on!). She also said that I would get a lot more business than I could imagine (which was odd as I didn't think I'd have many vacancies but with me giving notice and taking on D.P baby, it's all changed and now I've even filled ds's space by sounds of it, gosh, I'm just overwhelmed!!!!

shoshe · 16/01/2008 18:14

SB here its the same as mine

OP posts:
looneytune · 16/01/2008 18:16

SB - just chat like mad in a friendly voice Honestly, the lady who came last night said that she wanted to see another childminder but when she called her, she decided straight away that she didn't want to meet her purely from the way she sounded on the phone!!! A friendly welcoming voice says a lot But also don't be afraid to say if it's not a good time as we all know kids can play up when we get on the phone!!!

southernbelle77 · 16/01/2008 18:18

That's the one that I was looking at Sho! BUT, I'm way too impatient to order it on Amazon and then wait for it to come!!
Just looked on Robert Dyas and they don't have them - not impressed!! Don't live in the biggest of towns either so not many places to choose from! Actually, just thought of a local cookery shop that might! Will see online but if it doesn't say then maybe mindee will be having a trip there tomorrow

southernbelle77 · 16/01/2008 18:23

LT - I think maybe that is what I need to do. Wait until DD isn't here as she really likes to talk to me constantly as soon as the phone rings!! It did make me feel good today though that they said they would start on Monday after only meeting me today!! And to be fair, I have only had one interview where I haven't got the job but that was for afterschool care from completely the other end of town to me so would have been silly for the parents! It really is getting the enquiries at the moment. I know a lot of people round here aren't getting any so it's not just me so hey ho!!

looneytune · 16/01/2008 18:25

There you go then SB, you're doing nothing wrong, just some areas it's harder to get the calls than others! Have you advertised like mad and followed the Advertising Tips thread? Other than that, there's not a lot you can do, especially if a lot of other childminders.

southernbelle77 · 16/01/2008 18:33

I'm also hoping that now I can start going to the drop in groups more regularly that I will get 'in' with them and maybe some more work will come from that. Apparently quite a few minders round here are giving up so more work might be available!
Not seen the advertising tips thread so will go check that out - thank you

southernbelle77 · 16/01/2008 18:35

Well, I would if I could find it!! Is there a 'search' facility on here and I'm just being blind?!

MaureenMLove · 16/01/2008 18:41

There is SB, at the top of the page, it says 'search for message' but the only one that I can find is last nights one from Nick about Google maps. I can't remember if I was on that thread or when it was!

southernbelle77 · 16/01/2008 18:47

Oh yeah, thanks Mo! I knew I should have put my eyes in!
Will have a search later when DD in bed - not like I got anything else to do with DH away!

southernbelle77 · 16/01/2008 18:49

think this might be it?

looneytune · 16/01/2008 18:51

thats the one!

Leaving for meal in 20 mins but quickly.........If a child turns 5 on 1st Jan 09, when will they start full time school and become over 5??? I'm sure from Sept, they start AFTER their 5th birthday???

Anyone?

MaureenMLove · 16/01/2008 18:51

That's the one!

southernbelle77 · 16/01/2008 18:52

Goodness me LT you are so good! That thread is amazing Will have a proper read later! Will be kept busy all evening now

MaureenMLove · 16/01/2008 18:53

September 08 they start full time round here. Its Sept 08 - Feb 09, September 08 start and March 09 - Aug 09 for January 09. Does that make sense?

nannynick · 16/01/2008 19:03

West Berkshire School Admissions Policy - Primary
If they are 4 between 1 Sept 2007 and 31 August 2008, then they start school Sept 2008 academic year.
Do they start full time... hmm, may be up to individual school.

looneytune · 16/01/2008 19:06

Cheers for that guys, must dash out to this meal now but will read that when back Nick, thanks both

No probs on tips thread - pretty good to try doing all that, at least you know you've done all you can then

Byeeeee xxx

Wokingham Borough
If your child was born on or between 1 January 2004 and 31 March 2004 your child is entitled to start Rising 5 education in January 2009

southernbelle77 · 16/01/2008 19:18

Here if your child was born between Sept 2003 - Aug 2004 (my dd is June) they start school in Sept 2008. We are still waiting to hear about which school she has got into and if they do part time or full time for certain age groups!
