Poll - How many first time mothers had c/s or instrumental deliveries

Rochwen · 06/06/2005 10:31

Just asking around my circle of friends and acquaintances it seems that a lot of first time mothers ended up with either a c/s or and instrumental delivery.

So, just out of interest I'd like to know whether your first baby arrived with c/s, instruments or without such intervention. Also, how many of you first timers had an epidural.

I know this is not going to be a very representative poll but perhaps we can establish a general trend.

Thanks, Rochwen

I had an elective section due to breech baby.

Bonkerz · 06/06/2005 10:32

i had an epidural and a ventouse delivery with my first.

Fio2 · 06/06/2005 10:33

I had failed ventouse and failed forceps, followed by an emergency section

foxinsocks · 06/06/2005 10:35

no epidural (not out of choice, just all happened quite fast!), no instruments, no c/s

Chuffed · 06/06/2005 10:37

epidural - fully dilated but emergency c/s.

koalabear · 06/06/2005 10:39

i have planned (elective) c/s due to having metal rods and screws in my spine from previous injury

i did not have epidural, but rather, spinal block

for what it is worth, out of my mothers group of 10:

  1. elective c/s (for personal reasons)
  2. planned c/s for medical reasons
  3. planned c/s for breach baby
  4. emergency c/s after more than 15 hours labour and distressed baby
  5. water birth, natural no pain relief
  6. normal birth, gas and air
JoolsToo · 06/06/2005 10:39

gas and air and forceps (episiotomy followed)

Rochwen · 06/06/2005 10:40

Oh very useful poll, Koala !

Ventouse cap thing which didnt work and then forceps
No epidural but pethadine

jampots · 06/06/2005 10:45

I had an emergency c/s due to failure to progress and epidural because c/s was looking highly likely

mcmudda · 06/06/2005 10:46

emergency c/s after 23 hours of labour - distressed baby.
Had epidural as soon as everything started going pear shaped.

Twiglett · 06/06/2005 10:48

um .. if you wanted to do an 'out of interest poll' I think you need to change your title because in the main you'll only get people who had a c-section / instrumental delivery actually looking at this thread in the first place

twiglett .. elective section (maternal medical)

Miaou · 06/06/2005 10:48

I had epidural and ventouse for my first.

Rochwen · 06/06/2005 10:50

Good point, Twiglett !

I was already starting to panic seeing that almost 100% of the people responding had either a c/s or instrumental deliveries.

Aw, see there was a good reason I failed my statistics course at UNI, lol.

Now, how do I change the title?

eidsvold · 06/06/2005 10:54

emergency c-section due to fluid loss and poor dopplers.

gingernut · 06/06/2005 11:07

epidural and then ventouse delivery.

Of my a/n class:

1 elective c/s due to breech/transverse lie of baby
1 emergency c/s due to footling breech
2 emergency c/s due to foetal distress (1 was a twin pg)
1 normal vaginal delivery, just g&a
1 instrumental delivery following epidural (me)

MandM · 06/06/2005 11:13

Epidural, failed ventouse, failed forceps, emergency c/s due to distressed baby (and mother!)

LemonDrizzle · 06/06/2005 11:20

I had gas and air, epidural (still felt great pain but couldn't walk for about 4 hours after), some sort of injection (which i refused when offered a second). 2 failed attempts at ventouse, eventually she was out with forceps with a swelling the larger than an egg on her head.

CountessDracula · 06/06/2005 11:22

I had a c section after a failed induction, yes had epidural

expatinscotland · 06/06/2005 11:22

I had a forceps delivery. My DD had her hand up above her ear, cradling her head. So I wound up with epidural, episiotomy and forceps.

popsycal · 06/06/2005 11:23

normal delivery - no intervention aprat from being induced early due to pre-eclampsia

ditto ds2

norash · 06/06/2005 11:26

I had an epidural and a forceps delivery.

norash · 06/06/2005 11:27

Oh and the ventouse failed for me as well.

elsmommy · 06/06/2005 11:32

Had a normal delivery with pethedine, no instruments and no stiches

WigWamBam · 06/06/2005 11:32

Of my NCT class:

1 emergency c-section after induction, long labour and stuck baby (epidural for c-section)
1 emergency c-section after failed induction (epidural part way through the labour)
1 forceps after failed ventouse without epidural
1 ventouse without epidural
4 births without intervention
