Poll - How many first time mothers had c/s or instrumental deliveries

Rochwen · 06/06/2005 10:31

Just asking around my circle of friends and acquaintances it seems that a lot of first time mothers ended up with either a c/s or and instrumental delivery.

So, just out of interest I'd like to know whether your first baby arrived with c/s, instruments or without such intervention. Also, how many of you first timers had an epidural.

I know this is not going to be a very representative poll but perhaps we can establish a general trend.

Thanks, Rochwen

I had emergency section with my 1st and planned for the twins

Bexybear · 06/06/2005 21:25

failed emergency C-section, ventous, no epidural

madrose · 06/06/2005 21:41

gas & air - bad reaction to pethiene - epidural, then ventouse, threatened with emergency c section,

KristinaM · 06/06/2005 21:45

Induction, epidural, ventouse and episiotomy

Katemum · 06/06/2005 21:49

without intervention and without epidural

dizzymama · 06/06/2005 21:50

First time c-section - pelvis too small.

7 of us in antenatal, 2 (including me) had c-section, 5 had vaginal delivery without instruments (non-musical variety!!).

Blondeinlondon · 06/06/2005 22:43

"normal" delivery
no epidural

Rochwen · 07/06/2005 12:07

Wow, thanks for all your answers.

...and Morningpaper, thanks for finding those stats.

Induction, eventual epidural, eventual failure to dilate, eventual c section.

popmum · 07/06/2005 12:12

emergency c-section after 24 hours in labour (after show, waters breaking, and then weak contractions). I was knackered and baby was in distress. They tried a vontuse and an espisimotony (sp?) - I had everything!

Thomcat · 07/06/2005 12:14

1st and to date only pregnancy - no intervention or pain relief.

Rochwen · 07/06/2005 12:18

Yay Thomcat, that's great !

Popmum, I feel for you, that sounds awful !

Yes I was happy that luck was on my side that night and all went well, inc no stitches which made me really happy. That was until thhe nurse said that piles were more painful than stitches and then i felt sorry for myself!
Might have to have a get on the gas and air this time round, it's meant to be good fun and I feel like I've missed out!

BabysMomma · 20/06/2005 14:24

I was induced with the prostin peseries at 40 weeks due to high blood pressure during pregnancy, after 6 of the prostin tablets being inserted i only dilated to 3cm, they sent me home after being there for two days, and asked me to come back in two days time, and i did, they broke my waters, gave me an epidural i was in labour for 12 hours and needed an episiostomy to deliver my baby boy................never again!(blush) How degrading

struts50 · 20/06/2005 14:39

Emergency section after 42hrs of contractions. I had wanted a waterbirth but I am juat so chuffed with my little boy (11 wks today), I don't care at all.

toothyboy · 20/06/2005 14:42

Emergency C-Section after being induced. Ds heart rate dropping with contractions. Went down as Foetal Distress, no cause found.

pupuce · 20/06/2005 14:54

Long labour (24h) used pool no other pain relief and no instrumental delivery.

edam · 20/06/2005 14:58

My NCT antenatal class:

2 'normal' vaginal births with no assistance
4 instrumental deliveries

edam · 20/06/2005 14:59

oh, 'normal' deliveries were w/o epidurals, if that matters.

desperatehousewife · 20/06/2005 14:59

pre-eclampsia, induced at 38 wks, 6 hours of contractions then discovered breech, then emergency c-section. Rather too much intervention for my liking!

pupuce · 20/06/2005 15:00

The epidural rate in the country is 35%.
I think induction, epidural and ventous is the most common scenario for 1st time mums (in this country).... sadly....

edam · 20/06/2005 15:00

just thought of something else - my two sisters and I all had babies in the last two years, all first timers.

1 - normal delivery, no epidural etc.
2 - instrumental deliveries
