Poll - How many first time mothers had c/s or instrumental deliveries

Just asking around my circle of friends and acquaintances it seems that a lot of first time mothers ended up with either a c/s or and instrumental delivery.

So, just out of interest I'd like to know whether your first baby arrived with c/s, instruments or without such intervention. Also, how many of you first timers had an epidural.

I know this is not going to be a very representative poll but perhaps we can establish a general trend.

Thanks, Rochwen

I had ventouse but no epidural.

normal vaginal birth, only a little gas and air, no tearing or other problems

BUT midwife decided (without asking me!) that she was going to administer an epidural. DH had to virtually wrestle the needle away from her. I did not want or need an epidural. DS was born 20 minutes later.

Epidural, episiotomy, failed ventouse followed by forceps delivery with an epidural. Don't know how any of you managed a instrumental delivery without an epidural, ouch!
Nice to here alot of you had a natural birth 2nd time round and very reassuring.

Hi
Went 12 hours or so at home then noticed meconium, took 1.5 hours to get to hosp 20 mins away cos crash - spoke to ward - assume to receptionist who wasn't bothered about the delay - no offer of blue light.
When got to hosp was 9cm, then were losing his heart beat and firstly tried to 'get him out' because they thought he was smaller than he was as I didn't look big!! Next thing emergency section under general, with forceps, no time to faff with any other option!!!!

First one - gas and air, and only intervention was having my waters broken manually as he was OP and being a literal pita!

I don't know if my experience is strictly relevant but I'm trying to avoid doing the laundry so...

First baby - wanted to come feet-first so had a planned cs (planned the day before when we found out).

Second baby - had a cs at 34 weeks when he decided to come out placenta-first. My babies have directional issues.

Which is really not relevant except to say that having a cs doubles your chances of having placenta praevia the next time . Double a small risk is still a small risk but it does happen. As does scar rupture (had that, too).

no intervention, tho they were all standing by ready in case, as dd heart rate kept dipping.
