Am 40+6 today. Have had a sweep this afternoon and am 2 cm dilated, 50% effaced, waters bulging. Have had irregular contractions since sweep but are in back/bump and groin now and every 8 minutes.

Do you think the contractions could just have been set off by sweep and will result in nothing?

Just passing a bit of time really as I am getting a bit anxious, and would love to hear of other experiences.

Third baby and lost my plug last week.

do you have alot of fluid? This can make you feel really unconfortable.

yes she is moving a lot. do you think there may be a problem? I was monitored by midwife yesterday but I know things can change quickly.

fluid around the baby? I'm not sure to be honest. When I had DS2 it was like a tidal wave when my waters broke. I am only small and apparently the baby is quite big, although I'm not sure I believe them because my other two were tiny!

I would only be concerned if your bump was continually tight like a constant ctx as you described. I'm sure it's probably nothing but if you were my client presenting I would recomend you were seen.

Excess fluid can become problematic at the end of pg in normal conditions, but can be very uncomfortable.

Good that baby is moving well, what was your show like?

Putting los to bed now but i'll come back

Lulumama · 24/04/2009 19:20

agree with liaghen. constant ctx needs a MW opinion , probably nothing at all but best to be on safe side

surprisenumber3 · 24/04/2009 19:29

thanks lia. It is constantly hard when I'm walking around. When I lie down it goes soft at the bottom but stays hard at the top but her bum is sticking out loads. When I turn over it goes hard again and stays that way for a while. If I sneeze, have a wee, or do anything really it goes hard again! Sorry if this isn't making any sense!

The show started off as a few brown streaky strings but then a massive blob of clear/yellowy/browny stuff came out. It just kept coming and coming. I presume the sweep yesterday would have dislodged it?

BTW, in my OP I said I lost my plug last week, which I thought I had until I saw what I lost today!

you can lose your show over a number of days or weeks

liahgen · 24/04/2009 20:15

Hi, little darlings in bed, just frightened the life out of my 5 yr ds by banging on my bloody boiler trying to get it to click on, he wasn't asleep and came down all teary saying something was banging on the window. Bless him, wicked mummy, good excuse for an extra cuddle though.

So, Sound slike things are moving along, as it's your 3rd baby, things are likely to be unpredictable, in that it could move swiftly, or still take some time.

No harm in giving unit a quick ring perhaps? Are you haveing baby in hosp or home? Is someone with you tonight? Dh?

How you feeling in yourself? Do you feel as if you are having ctx or is it bit difficult to tell with the tightness?

surprisenumber3 · 24/04/2009 20:27

I am having baby in hospital. yes, DH is here.

I feel fine in myself, have been lying down for the last hour and tightness has gone off a bit, I am having contractions or BH in the last half an hour or so, only about 3 though.

This is all so new to me as DS1 was a c/s with no labour at 34 weeks and DS2 waters broke and pains started and that was it. None of this stop-start malarky!

OP posts:
liahgen · 24/04/2009 20:39

well rest assured something is happening.

Maybe have a nice bath, should relax you if nothing else, 3 ctx/bh in half hour is about 15 mins or so, so theoretically a nice text book labour, [ha ha emoticon] they would gradually start to get stronger, longer and closer together.

Do you have a breast pump for some nipple stim, or perhaps some gentle hand stimulation on breast?

Also as i suggested somewhere else this evening, if you have a laugh out loud dvd or something similar to watch, laughter will encourage endorphins and so on, or a nice cuddle with dh, similar feel good hormones.

surprisenumber3 · 24/04/2009 20:46

thanks I have just got up and had a trickle of water, followed by another huge blob of show with bright red blood in it. then another trickle of water.

Got a bit of pulsating back pain.

Sorry, I sound really thick don't I...it is my third, honest!!

Are you planning on using tens?

Pop a pad on to catch and look at liquid. Quick check, smell it, very obvious difference in amniotic fluid and urine.

a fluid should be sweet smelling and straw coloured, could be pinky or slightly blood streaked. If any green or black, then please contact mw straight away.

It's not unusual for a show to be a bit bloody but if you are losing blood then also best to be checked.

If you are planning on using tens i would probably think about getting it set up as it works better if it has time to build up with your body's natural painkillers.

Who is gonna be looing after dc's?

How long was your last labour and how long ago?

largeginandtonic · 24/04/2009 20:53

Ooooh baby coming then Fabulous, am very excited for you.

TitsalinaBumsquash · 24/04/2009 20:54

I have no advice i am not a professional i just wanted to wish you a happy labour.

Sounds like things are moving along though!

liahgen · 24/04/2009 20:55

hi LG&T, we were on may2007 together once, how is your 2 yr old? (I know you have one more now, we are ttc#6)

Sorry for hijack surprise.

surprisenumber3 · 24/04/2009 20:56

Not planning on using a TENS. I had green waters last time but luckily he came quickly and a Paediatrician was there when he was born.

My last labour was 8 hours and 5 years ago.

My mum will look after DC's and is 15 mins away, the hospital is also 15 mins away.

I'm not losing blood, it was just streaked in the plug.

Oh I so hope this is it, I am so tired of it all!

Doesn't sound like you'll be long, good luck

largeginandtonic · 24/04/2009 21:04

You must be so excited! Do you have any names?

Hullo Liaghen i remember you! Good luck with #6. My #7 is already 3 months, i can't believe it.

JustKeepSwimming · 24/04/2009 21:31

GOOD LUCK!!!!

(wish i could stay up and follow progress but shattered and going to bed early - llok forward to baby announcement!)

liahgen · 24/04/2009 21:31

well all sounds positive to me, you lulu?

streaked show is very normal.

You have your childcare sorted and hospital round corner.

try talking to baby now, tell him/her you're ready now, mean it, trust me it comes more naturally than it sounds written down.

Have fun, drink plenty and wee lots. Give baby lots room to get into best position.

liahgen · 24/04/2009 21:32

thanks LG&T, am on 2ww at mo, but not crossing fingers think we missed the window this month. 3 months already, time flies,

Lulumama · 24/04/2009 21:33
