Am 40+6 today. Have had a sweep this afternoon and am 2 cm dilated, 50% effaced, waters bulging. Have had irregular contractions since sweep but are in back/bump and groin now and every 8 minutes.

Do you think the contractions could just have been set off by sweep and will result in nothing?

Just passing a bit of time really as I am getting a bit anxious, and would love to hear of other experiences.

Third baby and lost my plug last week.

my contractions were set off by sweep (and a "donation" by DH)

If you can have a quick fumble with DH, if not, have a bath and tweak your nipples.

I bet you have this baby overnight!

surprisenumber3 · 23/04/2009 19:39

Thanks Danjar, will try and persuade DH but with the dilating and waters bulging and the MW describing how she could feel babies head so well, I think he might run a mile!! Will try other things though!

really hope to have baby overnight!

Hello!

I was 2 cms dialted at 39+5 when I had a sweep, i was crampy all afternoon i went into labour that night and had DD at 6am the next day!

Good luck!

lilymolly · 23/04/2009 19:41

I had 2 sweeps, with ds (baby no 2) and was 4cm dilated, and very favourable for a sweep.

Sorry to disapoint but after days of cramping, and tightening still nothing happened, and I was induced at term plus 13 days.

Although I did have a very fast labour (70 mins)

Fingers crossed for you x

surprisenumber3 · 23/04/2009 19:44

thanks, I had a few at 8 mins, then one at 6 mins, now one at 5 mins. They are getting a lot more painful though. I don't want to go to labour ward too early as it means getting my mum over here to sit with DS's etc. So want to be sure first! They say to go in when less than 4 mins don't they?

Can your mum come over so you can leave if necessary, it might be easier for her to come now than later.

FlyMeToDunoon · 23/04/2009 19:48

Hello.
My third [after two induced labours with DDs 1 and 2] went:
Sweep Friday morning.
Mild pains overnight.
Waters broke Sat lunchtime.
Mild pains Sunday afternoon, worse towards evening,
Baby born at around 11.30 Sunday night.

Good luck and Do Not leave it too late.

FlyMeToDunoon · 23/04/2009 19:49

OMG go now! Mine never got less than 5 mins apart but by god the baby was born!

cluelessnchaos · 23/04/2009 19:49

Just thinking I went from 8mins apart to 2 mins apart very quickly with my 3rd

surprisenumber3 · 23/04/2009 19:50

thanks, I will give her a call. DS1 was 6 weeks early, DS2 6 days late (same as I am now), so never had any intervention like this before so not sure what to expect. guess I'll get everything done, have a bath and see how things go.

Good luck, surprise!

I had irregular contractions after 1st sweep at 41 week which settled overnight.
Had another sweep 5 days later and labour started v suddenly and progessing quickly about 36 hrs later.
So, if it all happens over night: great! If not, get another sweep ...

Hope you can get some rest.

surprisenumber3 · 24/04/2009 08:46

It all tailed off here Still having a bloody show but after a few contractions which had me mooing on all fours, DH gave me a lovely back massage and it all stopped so must just have been the effects of the sweep?

Am 41 weeks today..come on baby!!

thanks starlight. Nearly fainted at the amount of show I had today. I'm not squeamish in the slightest but never ever expected anything like that!

also, my bump has been tight all day today, like a permanent contraction. makes me not want to do anything it's so uncomfortable.

solidgoldshaggingbunnies · 24/04/2009 18:14

Good luck. Tweak those nipples

liahgen · 24/04/2009 18:34

surprise, I don't want to worry you, but if you have been in constant pain and not ctx, then i would suggest you get checked by a mw.

Let us know how you get on.Good luck

surprisenumber3 · 24/04/2009 18:57

Hi - it's not painful, just tight and uncomfortable.
