Did you have any signs leading up to labour 2nd time round and if so what?

spritesoright · 11/02/2014 20:27

I was just going to ask what a mucus plug is like. I don't remember losing it last time when waters broke early.
Madallie I feel exactly the same like why can't my body kick into gear when it's done this before.
I have been getting either strong BH or mild contractions through the afternoon. I want to the rust my instinct and say it's beginning of labour but I've lost faith in my ability to 'know'.
I guess the only way to figure it out is wait and see.

spritesoright · 11/02/2014 20:28

Trust not 'the rust'.

Madallie · 11/02/2014 20:43

Sprite, I feel the same. Yesterday evening had dull back and tummy ache all evening, thought it could be the start of it all, even if it was going to take a long time to get started. Felt really uncomfortable, had quite a lot of uncomfortable BH but then it all dies down about midnight. I kept waking in the night to 'check' if I could feel anything but couldn't Sad.

Today, had the occasional very light BH nothing like yesterday. This evening nothing really. Maybe the odd BH but nothing else. I'm feeling so down about this all now. I don't know why I can't just relax and go with the flow / let nature takes it's course but I really don't seem to be able to.

Oh hum! Sorry that made me sound so sorry for myself. How silly!

PastaandCheese · 12/02/2014 08:38

Any babies born in the night?!

I've progressed to needing two paracetamol and a hot water bottle. That's pathetic isn't it?!

Madallie you're due today I think? There is no reason to think you won't deliver this week naturally. I read somewhere first time that the majority of babies are both in the 40th week so there is every reason to expect your baby in the next few days.

That said I know how rotten you feel when due date arrives as I've been there too.

BabyNumber02 · 12/02/2014 09:04

I'm still here. Due date is today for me too. I felt really sorry for myself last night as I felt the most sore and heavy I have felt to date. Had a good cry! I was up during the night as usual for the loo and had some cramping/period like pain which kept me awake. This morning I am really sore at the bottom of my belly, like it's literally going to drop off!

Is anyone else having these symptoms or am I just being pathetic?!

KatieChooChoo · 12/02/2014 09:08

Pasta, how crazy to be excited about the need of a hot water bottle and paracetmol but i really am pleased for you. This could be it. Fingers and toes crossed.

Its my due date today but theres still no impending sign of a grand appearance, i think its Madallies too.

Sprite, any more possible signs from you???

MrsJK, how are you doing?

Wishing you all lots of luck and looking forward to seeing the updates Smiley face: Smile

PastaandCheese · 12/02/2014 09:09

I literally sobbed the day before DD was born. It's unavoidable with all those hormones.

If you're pathetic then listen to this. I got out of bed and had a single massive contraction / random pain to the point where I had to grab onto the wardrobe and whimper and DH just stared at me. DD at least had the grace to take her eyes off Postman Pat and say 'mummy's poorly'. I think I'll take her to the hospital over him at the moment.

I had to ask him to put my socks on. The shame..... Never had to do that last time.

KatieChooChoo · 12/02/2014 09:17

I'll second that type of pathetic behaviour. I hold onto the bed end every night when taking my several trips to the loo in the night, just to get my balance and make so many moans when doing so - and thats just to ease the pain in my lady garden, hardly as painful as bh or contraction !!

  • And crying. I started crying a TV ad last night that ive seen numerous times - the baked bean advert of 2 brothers. I thought, aww, im going two boys any day. Im chocking up now thinking about it (pathetic).
  • I cried watching birth, deaths and marriages.
  • And I started crying after checking my ds before bed. I just sobbed myself to sleep. When my dp realised it was hormones he just turned over and went to sleep. They have it sooooo easy!!

So if you're pathetic then so am i hun. Its a sign!!!!! Big grin: Grin

BabyNumber02 · 12/02/2014 09:25

Thanks. I feel much better knowing I'm not the only one. I'm also getting random shooting pains in the lady garden area which is extremely unpleasant...I just can't help thinking if I'm in so much pain from walking about 4 yards, how on earth am I going to give birth?!!!

I really don't want another section as I had such an awful experience last time. I just wish it was all over now. Boo hoo, sniffle sniffle.

Madallie · 12/02/2014 10:30

Hi all. Still here too. Feeling as fed Up as you all. My due date was actually last Thursday so I'm 40+6 today. At the moment I really can't imagine going into labour naturallySad. I'll gave a mw app tomorrow who will offer another sweep if I I want. Don't know what I'll do, cos can't bare to be told I still have a high, closed cervix. Maybe it's just best not knowing. So worried this'll lead to unsuccessful induction and therefore c section.

Oh dear, I do sound very sorry for myself.

Pasta I was also thinking about getting a hot water bottle in the night. I have constant dull backache and lower tummy ache. It started about 3 am accompanied by BH for about an hour. BH went but ache still there. Could this be this be the start of something? Probably not cos don't think it's painful enough. That's right, I find myself wishing like mad for more pain.

Hope there's some good news for us all v soon.

Madallie · 12/02/2014 10:34

Katie, I also cried at births deaths and marriages. Then again it also took all my strength to hold back tears in the supermarket when Dh dared to say maybe we should get Pepsi instead of Coca Cola because it's cheaper. It felt like my world had ended! Now that's pathetic! Smile.

KatieChooChoo · 12/02/2014 11:53

Madallie - hahahahahaha that actually made me laugh out loud about the cola v's pepsi. My dp thinks pepis is better than coca cola - but he's weird!
I dont want to imagine how pissed off you are being this over due. Wishing a speedy labour. xx

spritesoright · 12/02/2014 12:47

Hi ladies, alas no news here. Contractions got to every 7 mins last night and I stayed up til 2am bouncing on my ball thinking it was on. Even dragged MIL out of bed who drove 1.5 hrs to be here.
But they died off and I finally went to bed. It's driving me nuts.
Madallie you sound justly frustrated!
No crying here but I do find hormonal crying stories amusing. We have to laugh don't we?

MrsJK · 12/02/2014 12:55

Oh Sprite another Shock how disappointing.

Feeling thoroughly disgruntled today

MrsJK · 12/02/2014 12:56

Actually scrap that I would like someone to dig out a crystal Ball and tell me exactly when it's going to happen Wink

LemonDrizzleCake11 · 12/02/2014 14:24

Mrs JK - if you find that crystal ball could I have a quick rub too?!

BabyNumber02 · 12/02/2014 15:34

Yes I agree it must have been very frustrating spritesoright. I go to bed every night wondering if it will happen that night.

And the crystal ball would be very helpful. You'd think you would know when you've done it before but I still feel like I did last time. I've no idea what I'm looking for and feel like I'm almost imagining and creating symptoms that aren't even there.

I just need to wait until my hospital appointment on Friday morning and see what they suggest.

Madallie · 12/02/2014 15:48

I second the going to bed and wondering is tonight the night?

Does anyone are any experience or know what will happen if mw says my cervix is till posterior and closed? Will they suggest and book induction to see how my body reacts or will they suggest to go straight for c section?

Not sure if I said further up the thread but with dc1 I had a sweep and cervix was only fingertip dilated. Mw wasn't hopeful it'd work. That was about midday on a Thursday, 4am on the Friday my waters broke. Had a long labour, needed hormone drip to speed things up along the way and had lo on sat at 10.12pm. This gives me some hope that my body responded to the part induction with the drip.

So it's hopeful I could respond well again isn't it?

BabyNumber02 · 12/02/2014 16:07

From what I've heard madallie second labours are much quicker. If you didn't have a c section last time they are unlikely to suggest one as they are usually a last resort. I would think they will offer you an induction. That is the policy at my hospital anyway. I am seeing my consultant on Friday when I will be 40 plus 2 and I have already been told I will be offered induction at 41 weeks. It Is then up to me to decide.

PastaandCheese · 12/02/2014 16:48

Oh madallie it all sounds very hard on you. 40+6 still gives you a week. I know that seems like a lifetime but the chances really are that you will go into labour during that week and one thing that was said to me last time is 'soon enough the waiting will be forgotten' and I think that's true.

Mind you, you can barely believe it when it does happen once you're past your due date!

Personally I would take the sweep (i believe mine helped last time so I'd have another this time) but put thoughts of induction out of your head until next week if you're still pregnant.

Do you have any toddler free days where you can book something as a distraction? Even just cake with a friend helps you to think about something else.

sprites that sounds very frustrating. Hopefully tonight will be the night for you.

I can't remember who asked about the hot water bottle but I can't recommend them highly enough for the rotten niggles in your back and then for putting in the Moses basket at night to keep it toasty while you feed the baby!

KatieChooChoo · 12/02/2014 20:51

Ive had niggling pains since about 2pm that have got slightly (and i mean slightly) more intense in the past 3 hours and lasting a good minute, but......... they seem to be coming to quick for real contraction. Quick as in every 4 / 5 minutes and i dont feel the need for painkillers just yet.
They are tightening and warm if that sounds familiar with any of you?

I really didnt want to give birth on 13th but right now so not bothered.

Sprites any updates from you hun?

Wishing you all well ladies xx

MrsJK · 12/02/2014 21:15

Oh Katie SmileGrinSmileGrinSmileGrinSmile I'm loving the sound of this! Very promising indeed Wink

BabyNumber02 · 12/02/2014 21:43

Yes that founds like something is happening to me Katie! Maybe get an early night in case you need to make a trip during the night...

PastaandCheese · 12/02/2014 21:54

Definitely go to bed. Stick your tens on if you have one of those and maybe take two paracetamol.

I swear the best thing I did was to go to bed last time and get 5 hours sleep in before it kicked off properly.

spritesoright · 13/02/2014 06:22

Baby sprite born this morning at 2:45 in the pool and sleeping soundly on my chest. She is delicious. No name yet.
Contractions kicked off again around 3 yesterday afternoon and we got to the birth centre at 11. I was gutted to be only 2 cm but they let me in as second baby and she was born 4 hours later.
I can't believe how quickly it went.
Thanks for all you encouragement ladies and best wishes with your labours!
