KatieChooChoo · 13/02/2014 14:22

Congratulations MrsJK, lovely news, wishing you and baby JK health and happiness.
Thats both you and Sprites sharing a birthing date. Pasta shall we take 14th as ours?? Sceptical: Hmm

Hope everyone else is ok xx

PastaandCheese · 13/02/2014 14:59

I'll root for you Katie but midwife said all the pain I've had is baby disengaging so back to square one for me. Oh well. Nothing I can do about it except moan of course!

Madallie · 13/02/2014 20:52

Hi all, hope ur all ok.

So, had my second sweep today. Have progressed slightly, rather than a fingertip dilated and posterior cervix like 40 weeks I am now 1cm dilated with mid post cervix. So not really much progress, but some is better than none, right?

Anyway, am booked for induction on Sunday am. Really hope that if I don't go naturally before then, that at least induction works.

Katie, can I join the valentines day birth day group too? I'll just cling to that hope.

spritesoright · 13/02/2014 21:08

Congrats MrsJK fabulous news. It's amazing how different this labour was to first one. Agreed it can go really fast.
Lots of lovely labour vibes to the rest of you. I'm currently surviving on about 2 hours of sleep, baby will only sleep in my arms and stressing over breastfeeding.
Ah, the joys of motherhood.

PastaandCheese · 13/02/2014 21:19

Oh yes sprites it gets to this point and you forget that birth is just the start and not the end point!

Hope you have a better night.

madallie it is a full moon tomorrow. Cling to that and google away to check I'm right when I say that more babies are born during a full moon than any other time of the month.

LemonDrizzleCake11 · 13/02/2014 21:23

Congrats to Sprites and MrsJK!

BabyNumber02 · 13/02/2014 22:12

Might be joining you madallie with the induction. I'm at the hospital tomorrow and I know that's what they are going to want to do to me. I also hope I go into labour naturally as for some reason induction really scares me...

KatieChooChoo · 14/02/2014 09:42

Its an open invite to todays labour vides, so come on Cupid and shoot some special valentines in the form of babies our way please.

I was up at 02:15 with back pain, to the point where i had to put a heat pad on. Had period type pains but couldn't compare them to contractions.

Sprites, it will fit into place soon enough, baby sprite just needs to realise that dinner comes from mum but dont pressure yourself and beat yourself up over it. Do whats best for you both hun.

Madellie I so hope that you dont get as far as sunday. Maybe Indian for tea? followed by.....! and doesnt pineapple help??

Babynumber2, same as above. Fingers crossed for you.

Pasta im liking your words re the full moon and it rings a bell too. When i had my ds someone told me that most births take place in the middle of the night (early hours of the morning) from back in the caveman day when most predators were sleeping. Im really, truly, whole heartily not arsed what time of day this baby arrives just so long as its soon and quick!!

Good luck everyone xx

PastaandCheese · 14/02/2014 10:09

That makes sense. I truly thought my first would be a night baby. Was very surprised when she was born mid afternoon!

Been madly cleaning since 7 this morning. There is nothing left to clean. It was pretty clean to start with.

I was stripped down to my bra to clean the hard floors by hand as I was having hot flushes at the same time. Mad behaviour and what if the postman had knocked??!

Laid up in bed now with a cup of tea and a hot water bottle for a bit of R&R before collecting DD at lunchtime.

Madallie · 14/02/2014 11:17

Hi all. Started having contractions at 2.30am, they have been consistent and painful but not regular. They are between 5 nd 8 mins apart and have been lasting between 40 seconds and 1 min 10. They have started to shorten now though to about 30-40 seconds. Not sure what this means but these are definitely not braxton hicks.

Spoke to labour ward they said the sweep I had yesterday could have caused 'uterine activity' (yeah I know that, I can feel it but what does that mean? Is it labour or not?). They said to stay at home until contractions are 5mins apart regularly for 2 hours and lasting between 45 and 50 seconds. I hate it when there's a one size fits all answer. From hearing what other mum's say labour does not always work like that. I might be waiting around for 2 hrs of 5mins apart contractions but they might quickly change from 5mins apart to 4 or 3. I'm worried I won't know if and when to go to hospital.

Oh well. We'll see what today brings. It could all amount to nothing I guess.

Positive vibes to you all too.

spritesoright · 14/02/2014 11:36

Thanks for the encouragement Katie at least I know better this time that feeding will get easier (way easier). We ended up swaddling her last night and that worked a treat.
Pastaandcheese the image of you in your bra, 9 months pregnant and scrubbing the floors is hilarious. Totally crazy nesting activities.

Friends have had inductions and it was totally fine, just the little kick start their bodies needed and contractions quickly got going on their own. When I got to the birth centre she did a sweep to 'help things along'. It bloody hurt but seemed to do the trick.
Madallie I think you have to go with your instincts on the contractions and you're right every labour is different but you know your body better than they do.
Birth centre wanted 3 in 10 before going in but I called earlier than that and things progressed quickly from there even though as I said I was only 2 cm dilated when I arrived.
My contractions were on/off too and it is soo frustrating but as someone pointed out earlier it's all labour prep.

Madallie · 14/02/2014 11:50

Thanks for the encouragement sprite. How long were your contractions irregular for? When did they start to become more of a definite pattern?

PastaandCheese · 14/02/2014 12:52

I can't believe that many people's contractions will consistently stay at 5 minutes apart for two hours with a second baby..... I don't think you should hang around when they reach 2/3 in 10 mins especially if you have a journey and childcare to arrange.

That's what my midwife said to me yesterday and that's what I'll be doing. I stayed at home for ages last time and it ramped up very quickly after I lost my waters in the hospital corridor.

Madallie · 14/02/2014 13:17

Thanks pasta that's what I think too. It's just hard to know if this is real thing or not because although contractions are consistent I.e no break us longer than 8 mins and most no longer than 6-7 they are varying in length and intensity. We'll just see what happens.

There's definitely no way I can get on with normal house stuff through them though.

How are you feeling today?

BabyNumber02 · 14/02/2014 14:38

Hi guys. I had strong period pains every few mins last night and fully expected to be making a trip during the early hours but they amounted to nothing. Gutted!

Been to the hospital this morning and induction booked for next Friday when I'll be 9 days over. Hopefully I won't get to that appointment.

I'm impressed with pasta for managing to clean the floor at this stage though. Although maybe that might start something off. I've been told to have curries and long walks...

PastaandCheese · 14/02/2014 15:13

That was the only reason babyno2! We're watching the skeleton final now so the baby will have to stay put for a bit.

How are you doing now madallie hopefully it is all gaining some momentum now.

KatieChooChoo · 14/02/2014 15:50

Pasta, where did that energy come from to clean the floor? I totally get the hot sweats, before i finished for mat leave i was sat in the office with the fan on me most afternoons.
Other than the nesting any other signs?

Madellia, How you doing??? Hopefully its stepping up a gear for you.

Babynumber2, we all seem to have had them period style pains come and go so we know how utterly annoying they are. You think ~It's a Sign~ then NOTHING. How disappointing. The stop / start has had me near tears.

Sprites, I hope you're sodding off any type of house work and resting when you can. How is dd1 taking to the new arrival ? Whats it like being a mum of 2? strange question but ive mixed feeling on imagining what it will be like when ds2 FINALLY arrives.

For me, constant back ache since 2:15am, dull period pains, nothing bad enough for painkillers, very tired, very weepy, very fed up but positive that it could all be rapid and its weekend so it makes things much easier.

MrsJK · 14/02/2014 19:24

Sending you all lots of labour vibes! Perfect weekend to have a baby right?! Wink
