Did you have any signs leading up to labour 2nd time round and if so what?

It's all the loons who say 'second babies are always early'. A myth with no basis in science with a single purpose to make one feel bad when you go over.

KatieChooChoo · 10/02/2014 09:25

Yes Pasta, they fill us with false hope that makes us think every little twinge is 'the start' of it.
We should start looking at being over as a positive for extra rest for us Wink: Wink
But.......... we can still grant ourselves with a little moan!

PastaandCheese · 10/02/2014 09:50

The irony being I was continually asked if I'd had 'twinges' by randoms in the street last time making me panic because I really hadn't apart from some back ache.

It made me feel the baby would definitely be two weeks late when in reality I went from doing my weekly shop and cooking dinner to feeling a bit achy and going to bed with tens to waking up with full blown contractions and a baby 13 hours later.

There really was very little warning if I'm truthful.

Obviously I symptom spotted like mad to pass the time!

spritesoright · 10/02/2014 12:32

Argh, false alarm here. I went to the midwife this morning and she said it was just 'excess discharge' Confused. My pajama bottoms were soaked when I woke up but apparently that's common.

She said the show looks like it is about to go so I guess that's positive. At least the pressure is off to get regular contractions in 24 hours.
I am gutted though and feel silly after putting everyone on standby.

Sorry you're feeling discouraged Madallie, it's frustrating isn't it!

KatieChooChoo · 10/02/2014 12:48

arrr, sprite, I feel your disappointment. Was hopefully you'd be nearly there by now.
Im glad you've said that about 'excess discharge'. Ive literally just had to change from my comfy pants because they were wet but not wet enough to alarm me. Explains im not going crazy.

Pasta you're funny 'spotting for fun'.

Lets all have a bounce about with a glass of bubbles and see what happens??

xx

PastaandCheese · 10/02/2014 13:14

It was best to get checked out. I've been having the exact same thing with wet pjs at night.

I seem to be fine in the day. Weird!

It MUST be a sign.....!

spritesoright · 10/02/2014 17:16

I've started having to wear a liner constantly and DD saw and remarked "is that your nappy mummy?" Blush
pastaandcheese your experience has heartened me. Just because we don't have a load of symptoms leading up to it doesn't mean labour isn't on its way.
Madallie hope you had a nice day with your toddler. I am trying to remember that this time alone together is limited and to enjoy it. She spent the last 30mins crying and demanding chocolate though and I have to grit my teeth to stay calm.
On the plus side she managed a 2 hour nap Grin

PastaandCheese · 10/02/2014 17:29

I'm trying very hard with DD after being a terrible mum last week with too much bellyaching and complaining on my part.

We've done lots of painting, baking, sticking etc but it's just making me panic how I'm going to manage it when the baby is here. DD never just went in her bouncy chair or napped nicely..... Arghh!

'Mummy's nappies'. Ha ha. I'm peeing every hour now and I get asked, every time, even in public if I am going to do a big poo :-(

MrsJK · 10/02/2014 17:33

OhSpriteShock how disappointing for you. Sounds like we are all in the same miserable - symptom spotting - any day now boat!

First time seems like a breeze now : nap whenever, lounge around & just let nature take it's course Grin naivety was bliss right Smile

Almost bed time having survived another day with the toddler. One day closer ladies

KatieChooChoo · 10/02/2014 18:44

Im so glad to hear that you 3 have also found your dc extra hard work and its not just me counting to 10 one minute then feeling guilty as hell later in the evening. Poor little mites dont understand do they.
My ds has demanded Thomas the Tank to be replayed about 5 x today, it could well have been 10 x if i hadnt have found the strength to say NO and take him for a walk. A walk which i struggled with, only to the shop and back. Must be a sign!

How crazy would it be if we all gave birth on the same day?!

x

BabyNumber02 · 10/02/2014 19:14

Hi guys. I know I haven't been involved in this thread but thought I'd join in. I am also due my second baby on Wednesday and feeling thoroughly sick. I've had terrible SPD for the past 3 months so just want it over. I've been feeling nauseous on and off and I can't walk for more than 10 yards for the pain in my lower stomach. I had cramping and noticeable Braxton Hicks last week but all stopped now.

Been told as I had an emcs last time they want to induce me at 41 weeks but I'm terrified of it. I have to decide at the hospital on Friday what I want to do. I'm hoping I will have gone into labour naturally before Friday!

MrsJK · 10/02/2014 20:50

Welcome babynumber2 - I do hope you like a good moan Wink

Sounds like a tough decision but may be nice to have an end in sight especially with SPD? Wishing you lots of luck Smile

All I have managed today is bouncing on the ball - feel deflated couldn't even manage a walk but have tried to rest today( very unlike me!)

Does anyone know the protocol when overdue - with sweeps etc? Thanks

KatieChooChoo · 11/02/2014 07:47

Welcome Babynumber2. Sorry for my ignorance but what is SPD?

I have a poorly 2 year old ds this morning, terrible cough, trip to the gp's this morning followed by a visit to the md this afternoon. Hes in need of lots of extra cuddles, so i really hope baby number 2 stays put till ds is over the worst.

Im not sure what sweeps and inductions entail but im pretty sure a sweep comes about a week after going over? and if no joy yuo get induced a week after that - i think!

What stage is everyone at now? My official date is tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
xx

spritesoright · 11/02/2014 08:25

Katie my official date is thursday. I think you're right about the sweep date. I have an appointment with the midwife the following week when I will be 41 weeks and they said they can sweep then.
I had what felt like mild contractions last night but they're gone now. Luckily DD is at nursery today as I'm planning on staying in bed all day Grin. So you've done better than me MrsJK. My sleep has been awful and I've got DD's cough/cold.I hope you don't catch your DS's Katie and he's better soon.It is awful when they're sick.
Welcome baby2 yes do join us for a moan and much symptom spotting that seems to come to nought.

spritesoright · 11/02/2014 08:35

pastaandcheese I'm sure you haven't been an awful mum and are doing your best in difficult circumstances. Your lucky DD has been offered a range of great activities. They can be trying.

DD's favourite game at the moment is hide and seek.I keep trying to explain not to play it in public (have lost her in the shops a couple of times).
LOL on public loo commentary. DD loves to tell me "it's a big one, it's coming out" as I rush her to the nearest toilet.

PastaandCheese · 11/02/2014 08:56

Hello babynumber2. Can you dream up some new symptoms of labour we have previously failed to consider please?

Sprites I count to ten v e r y s l o w l y when playing hide and seek and with DD. I recommend it as an approach except in shops.

I have a lovely day today..... A spa day! A treat from my friend. We were pregnant together before and were both most insistent that our feet are not getting messy during birth and therefore we would have lovely pedicures.

Obviously she ended up with her polish being taken off during a section and my waters broke all over my feet with the added benefit they were full of merconiom.

Still, we are no more realistic this time and it will be pedicures, pregnancy massage and yummy lunch all round.

katie I hope your DS improves quickly. CBeebies on prescription today I think? If you do go into labour I am sure whoever is looking after him will manage to keep him warm and calpoled up and be very understanding.

BabyNumber02 · 11/02/2014 09:56

Hi everyone, and yes I do enjoy a good moan! katie SPD stands for symphysis pubis dysfunction and is basically an unstable pelvis caused by the loosening of your ligaments, which happens during pregnancy. It causes pain in your groin and down your legs or at the top of your buttocks and down the backs of your legs. It can be mild or very severe. Some women end up on crutches. It can make it difficult to give birth too.

I had a sweep with my first at 41 weeks and as I was already having mild contractions it really accelerated things. I'm not sure id have one again but that's just me. As I'm consultant led due to the previous emcs I'm not seeing my midwife anymore so no idea whether I'll be offered one or not.

As for symptoms, everything seems to have stopped. I've had cramps, nausea and the watery discharge where I also thought my waters had gone! But nothing now. My official date is tomorrow. I do feel like everything has moved down though as I'm getting quite uncomfortable and keep getting random pains.

Sorry this message is so long!

KatieChooChoo · 11/02/2014 11:20

We're all guilty of long message Babynumber2, specially me!

SPD could be what ive experienced but the mild verity. Could it feel like a hot poker being placed quickly up your lady area? I really wouldnt wish any harder pain on anyone so you do you have my sympathy.

Had ds had gp's, got some 'special medicine' and he seems to have made a rapid recovery with the help of Thomas the Tank, Mr Maker, and Mr Tumble !!

Pasta and Sprite you have made me laugh with your hide and seek game, so much so im going to play it myself, but i'll do the hiding, in the cellar, with a book!

Im very dischargie today - is that even a word? Im hoping thats 'a sign'. I'll see what my midwife thinks during my visit which if like previous will take all of 5 minutes. Is it just me or do they seem to rush you in and out on your 2nd? My 1st was lovely and used to sit me down at the end of each visit to have a chat. She seemed to make time. Others said the same about her.

Enjoy your pamper day pasta, im so jealous. Envious: Envy But i totally agree you need to look your best ready for the big event. I keep mixing a little st topez in my lotions just to give me a glow other than pale. Ive got my water proof mascara ready and ive had my hair and nails done in preparation. Those just after birth photos stay put forever, well for at least 4 generations!! (im so vain!) Wink: Wink

PastaandCheese · 11/02/2014 18:59

Aaaah...... That was a nice afternoon. I'm ready for this baby now!

On that note we are back to symptoms here..... Lost some mucus plug (tmi) and having very mild cramps and pressure. Not expecting it to amount to anything but it's all contributing to a very positive day here.

How was midwife Katie? Hope your DS is all recovered.

Madallie · 11/02/2014 19:27

Sounds like things might be warming up pasta.

Just a quick question and maybe a little tmi but does everyone lose their mucus plug? My waters broke first last time and I never noticed losing it then. This time, I'm not sure but I've been losing small amounts of what looks like snot (tmi), just a little at varying times when I wipe, not all the time though and no big clumps. Does that sound like it could be bits if mucus plug or just discharge ( sorry tmi again)?;

PastaandCheese · 11/02/2014 19:32

That sounds like the start of the mucus plug madallie. I had that in the days leading up to DD. I had some brown blood in it the day I went into labour and then lost a golf ball sized amount of mucus and red blood during labour but before my waters. I was quite shocked about how much there was TBH.

That's all TMI isn't it?!

BabyNumber02 · 11/02/2014 19:57

I didn't notice any mucus plug last time and had to have my waters broken so I'm not sure what I am looking for. I have again had watery discharge today. I feel like I should have more symptoms than this.

I've spent today watching one born every minute on 4OD. Not sure if it's a good idea or not...

Madallie · 11/02/2014 20:10

Thanks pasta and and baby02. I've been having that for a few weeks now.

Do you know what, I'm feeling like I'm not even bothered about being induced now, I'm just so desperate to have a vaginal delivery and avoid a c section. Am so worried that my unfavourable cervix is not going to allow induction methods to be effective.

Why does my body not know what to do when I've already done this once before?

KatieChooChoo · 11/02/2014 20:17

Evening all.
Midwife gave me a home birth box, ive a bag packed too, there sat next to each other in the hall. Ive decided to go with the flow at the time.
She has booked me in for sweep next week but i have feeling this baby will make a grand appearance fri or sat.

DS much better thanks, day of cuddles done him the world of good Hes at his childminders tomorrow so i'll be having some 'me time'.... on the sofa watching rubbish on tv and making the most of doing NOTHING. It will be bliss.

Madellie, With my last i lost what i think was my plug 24 hours before. It was like a bloody snotty discharge.
I laboured at home and when we got to hospital i had more of the same in my underwear. I totally frgot my waters had not gone!! They went 15 minutes before ds was born. We only just made it t hospital, 20 minutes!!

Sounds very much like its the start for you Pasta. Keep us posted please, its very exciting that at least one of us is getting 'a good sign' Big grin: Grin wishing you lots of luck xx

LemonDrizzleCake11 · 11/02/2014 20:24

Overdue (again) here. DS (2) starts every morning asking if 'baby sister still in tummy mummy?" which I'm not sure if its a sign of his keeness to meet her or him wanting to make sure the status quo hasn't changed.

Would be really nice to avoid needing an induction this time...
