Did you have any signs leading up to labour 2nd time round and if so what?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
BabyNumber02 · 19/02/2014 16:14

We'll I managed a slow walk so will see if that does anything later on.

Yes katie my due date was also 12 February so we did share the same date. Clearly a due date means nothing but I definitely feel a lot worse since it came and went. I wonder if it's a psychological thing?

I didn't realise you were 39 weeks pasta. Still, like I just said, due dates mean nothing anyway!

And I do look at my belly and think, there is no way something that big is coming out that small gap...oh dear what was I thinking.

KatieChooChoo · 19/02/2014 17:41

When the stand-in midwife measured my belly yesterday I asked if she could guess what the baby may weigh, she asked what my ds weighed, 8lb3, she smiled and said 'i think this one will be bigger'... Ouch ouch ouch

A tip for a sore lady hole after, tee tree oil. I swear by it. Ive got a tiny spray bottle ready. I'll put a good few drops in it and dilute with water, i'll use is instead of toilet paper afterwards. It really eased the pain.

Due dates are a load of tosh, along with Chinese luna calendars and old wives tales of 2nd babies coming sooner.

Im thinking things may have positively progressed for jayne - hope so for her sake.

PastaandCheese · 19/02/2014 18:03

I 'liked' using DD's Water Wipes instead of toilet paper. The Andrex puppy wouldn't have been so pleased with himself if he'd just had an episiotomy.

The only advice that helped me when overdue was 'very soon all this waiting will be forgotten and your baby will be here'. It didn't help with the being overdue thing but it was true.....

BabyNumber02 · 19/02/2014 18:22

Thanks. Might get some tea tree oil then. I've heard about the wet toilet wipes too so might get those.

My first was only 7lb but when I saw my midwife at 38 weeks she guessed the weight then at 7.5lb. I reckon it's about 9lb now if they gain 0.5lb a week. Surely not? I think she must be wrong. I've spoke to a few people who were warned they were having big babies and had ones less than 7lb.

I just keep thinking, I'm so tired that I literally don't have the energy to give birth. It's quite a scary thought to know there is nothing you can do about it and have to go through it whether you like it or not. I just wish I could go to sleep and wake up to find my healthy baby in my arms.

Izzyalex · 19/02/2014 21:25

Ah babynumber2 that sounds lovely, if only it were possible!
Tbh I could pretty much cope with labour if i actually knew when it was going to happen! Being a control freak I really dislike the waiting game and not having the control!!!

PastaandCheese · 19/02/2014 21:53

I agree with izzy the not knowing is the worst bit but there is a lot to be said for the stork in the night idea.

jayney86 · 19/02/2014 23:36

Massively quick update. Baby girl born at 19:19 on the 19th feb 7lbs 6oz. They put the pessary in the induce at 4 & like I said she was here at 19:19, so quick I didn't even make it to a delivery suite, they had to get everyone out my ward (3 other women plus their visitors!) and delivered the baby there & then within minutes!! No gas & air, nothing! Quite proud of my little self but didn't have much choice.
Hope we have a domino effect now ladies x x

KoalaFace · 20/02/2014 00:17

Congratulations Jayney!

Another quick update, will give more details tomorrow if anyone wants them!

Baby Girl born 19:04 on 19th. 8lb and beautiful!

Waters went 10pm on Tues night. Laboured at home for 7 hours and went in to delivery suite at 5am with contractions 5 minutes apart. They became weaker and irregular. At 8am was 3cm.

Taken to ward to labour and contractions irregular all day and not very strong. At 18:30 I had 6 contractions that were unbelievably strong and between 1 and 3 minutes apart. I was 6cm.

Taken back to delivery suite at 18:56. 2 pushes later (2!! All that raspberry leaf tea?!) she was born at 19:04, 8 minutes later!

I'm sending you all contraction and quick labour vibes!!

PastaandCheese · 20/02/2014 06:55

Wow! Two babies. That's super. ThanksThanksThanks

jayney what drama! Hope it's all calmed down a bit now and you were able to go to another room for some snuggles with your DD and DP/H.

koala two pushes! Makes my flippancy about three pushes seem less flippant somehow doesn't it?! Well done you.

Enjoy the first full day of your daughter's lives and take a moment to congratulate yourselves on not being pregnant anymore!

BabyNumber02 · 20/02/2014 09:05

How wonderful. Massive congratulations to jayney and koala. I'm so pleased that it went to well for you both. I just hope all these successful labours continue for the rest if us.

As you may have noticed, I am still here, 8 days overdue. Feeling crampy again but nothing more. I think I've resigned to the fact that I'm going to be induced tomorrow. Waiting for the phone call today to tell me what time to go in. I suppose the only positive thing is that I won't be waiting anymore...

Izzyalex · 20/02/2014 09:13

Congratulations koalaface and jayney86!!
2 beautiful baby girls - amazing news xxxx

babynumber02 good luck for the induction xx

PastaandCheese · 20/02/2014 09:21

babynumber02 there's still time yet. Lots of people go into labour right before an induction don't they?

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you but as you say at least the waiting will be over.

BabyNumber02 · 20/02/2014 10:29

Thanks pasta and izzy. Hoping something will happen today. Out for lunch with mum and dd for my last day as a mother of one...

KatieChooChoo · 20/02/2014 11:15

Koala and Jayne massive congratulations. Sounds like both your experiences were quite wonderful. Wishing you all health and happiness.

Right, come on baby2 surely its our turn next. I'll race you to the delivery suit Wink: Wink

Ive still not had so much as a twinge. Im considering getting the dyson out and giving that a go!!

xx

KatieChooChoo · 20/02/2014 11:35

HELP......
Ive just contacted the midwife unit to request an induction this friday, they said they cant because i wont be term + 12 (that will be monday coming). They said only a consultant can authorise an induction before then.
Can any of you think of a valid reason i can go to the consult and request an induction for tomorrow??
Ive already got an appointment for another sweep tomorrow, at home, but theres no way i want another, im far to much of a wimp - id rather go through labour with no pain relief again than EVER have another sweep.

PastaandCheese · 20/02/2014 13:38

Can you ring your community midwife for advice katie? I don't think they are keen to induce women earlier than their policy states without a health reason???

If you don't want another sweep just don't have one. Lots of people say 'no thanks'. The evidence around whether they work is far from conclusive and if it is distressing you this much then I'd say it isn't worth it.

BabyNumber02 · 20/02/2014 14:33

Hi katie I am consultant led rather than midwife because of my first labour so I'm not sure what you do. I would think your midwife could refer you urgently? The hospital I am with will induce after 7 days late so booked me in for tomorrow when I'll be 9 days late.

Keep us updated xx

KatieChooChoo · 20/02/2014 17:46

Im just so uncomfortable and its painful now. Im tired and feeling VERY sorry for myself.
The thought of this going on till Monday fills me with dread. I just cant imagine going into labour and having a baby now.
To listen to me today you'd think I was the only woman to be over due and uncomfortable!!!! Sorry.

Massive good luck for tomorrow baby2 please keep us posted
xx

PastaandCheese · 20/02/2014 18:09

Not at all Katie you complain all you like. I think you have every justification and it must feel very unfair on you right now.

I know you don't want to countenance it being Monday but can you make some plans for the weekend to distract yourself a bit?

KatieChooChoo · 20/02/2014 19:27

Ive booked a film tonight (hangover 3) to distract me from my grump.
I'll make plans to see family over weekend, they'll help with ds and take my mind off my huge belly and grumpy mood swings.

I so hope you dont go over Pasta specially after reading all the moaning comments from us lot.

The bottle of champagne chilling ready for the new arrival isnt helping matters!!!!!!
Thank you pasta, your support is much appreciated xx

BabyNumber02 · 20/02/2014 20:23

We'll I telephoned the hospital after they didn't ring me to confirm a time to go in only to be told I was on the list for Saturday in error! I burst into tears on the telephone and they have squeezed me in for 11 am tomorrow but I've been told I might gave to wait a while. Totally unfair since it's their mistake.

I completely share your pain katie as I feel exactly the same. It's awful going this far past your due date. It starts to feel like it's never going to happen. Have you been booked in for Monday though?

I will keep you updated with tomorrow's progress x

KatieChooChoo · 20/02/2014 21:26

OMG Baby2 i bet you was beside yourself with a sunken heart when they said that. Thank god they have got you in for tomorrow. I can seriously imagine how dishearten you must have been when they said Saturday after gearing yourself up for tomorrow.
Even if you have to wait till 6pm at least your int he right place where you can get some rest and may be ..... just maybe, the sound of other babies / labours might even bring yours on naturally.

Yes please keep us posted. We know you'll have other things of more importance going on but im sure i speak for all the regulars on this thread, that we will all be routing for you and wishing you lots luck xx

Ive stopped feeling sorry myself, only because my dp has made a late dinner for us and we're about to watch a film of my choice that doesnt involve guns, fast cars, wars or subtitles Smiley face: Smile

PastaandCheese · 20/02/2014 22:14

Or black and white katie. Never under estimate the torture so a so called 'classic'. Have a relaxing evening. It could make all the difference.

babyno2 I'm pleased they've squeezed you in and no wonder you were so upset. Not the answer you were expecting.

I've been over cooked before so as rubbish as it is I'll have to live with it. Midwife today made an ominous comment that seconds aren't always early and lots of women go overdue. Obviously I thanked her profusely for her words of hopeful encouragement.

KatieChooChoo · 21/02/2014 09:46

pasta you need to be on stage, you never fail to make me laugh.
Black and White films, particularly war ones, are the reason im out the house on a Saturday afternoon !

Im in a better mood today, the midwife is calling to offer another sweep which i'll polity decline while i try my hand at begging for an induction today! If i explain that im uncomfortable and an induction today or tomorrow would fit in with child care arrangements they should let me ...... right?

Hows everyone else this fine sunny morning?
xx

PastaandCheese · 21/02/2014 11:39

Ummmmm, yes. Maybe....... It is worth asking anyway and I am sure she will be sympathetic.

Hope babyno2 isn't having to wait too long at the hospital.

It's been very frustrating here. Up at 3am with regular but very mild contractions. Enough to make me ham it up with an 'oooo' but still a bit laughable I use the term contraction. I did time for a while and they were coming every 7 minutes.

Nothing since 7am though. Not even a bit of back pain.

DD woke in a rage at 6am because she'd woken up and found her gro clock still asleep. She lay on her back, red in the face, shouting 'I wake up, clock sleeping, no no no'.

Basically I've had a bad nights sleep and am all cross it didn't progress to labour.
