Did you have any signs leading up to labour 2nd time round and if so what?

OP posts:

KatieChooChoo · 21/02/2014 12:41

arr pasta its like having an old car isnt it, all the revving up of 'contractions' with a faulty choke followed by a flooded battery. Are you even old enough to know what a choke is? they were just fading out back in '96 when i got my first mini....

Im dreading the pain when it comes to the wailing stage but at least you know at the stage theres no going back. Imagine how utterly pissed off you'd be if the wails amounted to nothing?! does not bear thinking about!

Get cbeebies on chill on the sofa hun xx

PastaandCheese · 21/02/2014 16:26

I remember chokes. Never had a car with one as didn't pass my test until 1998 when they were pretty much gone.

Still nothing here but I took advantage of my one child status and went to shops with DD and now we are watching our new DVD of 'The Little Mermaid' with a gingerbread man each.

Hope midwife was helpful.

Izzyalex · 21/02/2014 18:37

I've been feeling roper all day and didn't sleep well last night at all.
No contractions unfortunately but had tightenings and queasiness and generally bit crap.
Fingers crossed for more tonight!

Izzyalex · 21/02/2014 18:37

*Ropey

KatieChooChoo · 21/02/2014 20:00

Sounds promising Izzyalex , hopefully its a 'sign'. Whats your due date?

I asked nicely, 3 times about an induction today. The midwife was like 'blah blah blah policy 12 days blah blah blah' I refused a sweep even tho she offered it me 3 times (she offered after i asked about induction).

So im booked in for Monday. Ive to ring at 8am to see if they can take me in. worse case is they cant and its Tuesday - best not be or i'll be quoting their 12 day policy! Wont really. I give it the big 'I am' but im a soft shit and who does as shes told - expect have a 2nd sweep coz a soft mard arse.

pasta you're lucky with the little mermaid. Thomas the Tank gets VERY boring. Its demanded daily in my house. But if i had to pick between Thomas and a black and white war film, Thomas would win hands down.

Sending RA[ID Labout vibes everyone xxx

PastaandCheese · 21/02/2014 22:38

Fingers crossed izzyalex.

Definitely nothing happening here. Starting to wonder if I was dreaming last night now?!

katie Toy Story 1, 2 and 3 will always be our favourites. The Little Mermaid is good but is limited by the fact 'my Woody' and 'my Buzz' aren't in it.

BabyNumber02 · 22/02/2014 00:49

Update; didn't end up getting induced as woke up contracting. Progressed extremely quickly and got to hospital for 10.30 am, 2 cm dilated. 4 cm by 11 am and fully dilated by 4 pm. Gave birth to a baby boy at 6.33 pm. 8 lb and absolutely gorgeous!

HamAlive · 22/02/2014 03:16

Congratulations babyno2!

Dipping my toe in, I'm 39+3 so not even overdue but DS was born at 39+1 and stupidly got my hopes up after everyone kept telling me that second babies come earlier!

I've had a couple of evenings of regular but mild contractions, slight plug loss (massive loss a few weeks back but assume it regrew!), feels like baby's head is on my cervix. Today I can't stop pooing! Lots of niggly cramps and all over bump cramps.

PastaandCheese · 22/02/2014 06:54

BabyNumber2 congratulations! ThanksThanksThanksThanks

That's lovely news and super that you didn't need to be induced in the end. Hope you get to take him home today and can enjoy showing him off to everyone.

Hello HamAlive. You don't need to be overdue. Entry to this club is determined by expecting a second baby, experiencing and sometimes dreaming up lots of frustrating symptoms and a general feeling that you really would rather this was over sooner and not later.

Absolutely nothing here again. Went to see some of my mum friends last night (not at a toddler group for once; we're crazy like that) and they all agreed these seconds tease you. Certainly with my first the first time I had anything like a period pain it was the real deal. This time I just keep threatening. Arghhhhhhh!

Izzyalex · 22/02/2014 09:06

Congratulations babynumber02!!!!! Amazing news, especially as it came on naturally!

I was hoping to be woken up in the night with contractions again but the only thing that woke me was a full bladder Sad. Still hopeful for arrival this weekend though! Not due till Tuesday katie

Welcome hamalive sounds like you got some early signs too!

KatieChooChoo · 22/02/2014 09:10

baby2 thats really lovely news and im so so so pleased you didnt have to get induced. Well done, wishing you and your new addition (and the rest of your family) health and happiness.
No doubt i''ll be seeing you on a new thread shortly regarding sleep deprivation Wink: Wink

Warm welcome hamalive . Hope what you're experiencing is the start for you but dont be discouraged if not. We have quickly, and harshly, realised that old wives tales about 2nds coming quicker is a load of rubbish for most of us.
We seem to take an adverse joy from the fact we can moan, mock and wish on this thread.

Same as you pasta there is no change what so ever my end. Monday is in sight. Child care is sorted, waterproof mascara is packed, extra tan is ready to be applied and nail varnish is ready for removal.

How is everyone else doing? any 'signs' we can get excited about ?

xx

Mim78 · 22/02/2014 15:14

Am 39+6. Been having terrible braxton hicks all week. Sometimes feeling sick. Sometimes painful but only one or not regular. All sorts. Thought it was happening a million times.

given up now as being induced tomorrow.

PastaandCheese · 22/02/2014 15:49

I don't blame you min78. I'd be the same. Hope a.l goes well tomorrow.

The trouble with the 'seconds are earlier' is that everyone believes it. I've had calls from MIL and SIL telling me they have 'feelings' it will be Wednesday and Tuesday respectively. SIL has reminded me that only this week fits in with her holiday and if it isn't this week she won't see the baby until she is back.

I know they are just being flippant and interested but you do start to feel like you aren't performing as people like when it isn't in your control. Sad

OnTheRunAndUpTheDuff · 22/02/2014 17:14

Hello all,

I've been following this thread but kept convincing myself that I was about to go into labour so I shouldn't post because then I would feel foolish. That made sense in my head anyway.

DS was born at 37+6, and today I am 37+6, so at midnight I will officially have been pregnant for longer second time around (seems to be the case with a lot of us on here) Sad

For the past two weeks I have had regular BH's that build up for a couple of hours then tail off again. Sometimes they are accompanied by a bit of cramping, sometimes not. I wake up every morning with stomach cramps and have to rush to the loo. I keep losing annoyingly tiny bits of snotty mucous.

Basically, bugger all is going on, and I am going insane.

Congratulations to all who have had their babies recently. I'll try not to be too jealous!

KatieChooChoo · 22/02/2014 17:46

Hello mim78 and Ontherinanduptheduff

Good luck with your induction tomorrow mim78

Ontherun it seems to be the case that 2nd babies give us fake starts. Its very annoying to say the least. And its only natural to be jealous, ive been congratulating a few on this thread for the past couple of weeks and deep down wishing it was me.... but here i am, well over due and wanting to drink alcohol more than ever! Ive had the odd glass but thats not enough anymore and i feel like im teasing myself so im just saving myself now. I can almost taste it. (obviously i want to meet the baby too Wink: Wink )

Pasta i love it when people tell you about their feelings . If i was to go off friends feelings the baby would have been here on valentines day / last friday / last saturday / last sunday / thursday gone / yesterday / today and obviously tomorrow. Its taking all my reserved pissedoffness not to tell people to stick their feelings some where special !!

Ive took a leaf out of yours and Sprites book and started making a lasagna and moussaka to freeze - nothing like last minute.com with me, you can see where this late baby gets his laid backness / slowness from !

Ham have you had any more signs today??

xx

PastaandCheese · 22/02/2014 18:18

Hello ontherunanduptheduff.

Can't promise any of us are lucky Buddhas when it comes to going into labour but at least chatting passes the time.

katie last time I was over due I made a cottage pie and pipped the mash on rather than just slopping it on and vaguely forking it around. I informed DH that I was trying to trick the baby into thinking I was a nice mummy who lovingly made perfect mash potato and mince based dinners for her little chickens so it would want to come out.

It didn't work but might be worth making that cheese sauce from scratch with organic yak's cheese or similar just in case???

I'm getting an Indian tonight. There's been nothing today. I've done calypso dancing with DD. If I was having a baby tonight I wouldn't be able to do that would I? Hmm

Izzyalex · 22/02/2014 20:35

The worst bit is telling yourself it's happening, that every little twinge is the start of something and that this one will definitely be earlier than the first!
Dd1 was born at 41+3 and I had convinced myself this one would be early as the pregnancy has been so different in every way. Here I am swiftly approaching due date next tues and nothing doing!

Grrrrr.
DP is getting the brunt of it but he did get some action the other night when I was determined to make the baby come - didn't work though Wink

Positive labour vibes being sent out to all........ Xx

OnTheRunAndUpTheDuff · 22/02/2014 22:55

Thanks for the warm welcome.

Everyone's driving me nuts with the stupid comments - haven't you had that baby yet / and sign of baby / still pregnant then ... ad infinitum. I have basically become a hermit this past week, I am so sick of it.

I posted something completely unrelated on facebook (a cute conversation with my toddler), and someone responded with 'any sign of number 2?'. Grrrrrrr Angry. It is taking all my self control not to post something snarky in response.

I have now had two complete strangers in the street stop me to tell me how enormous I am, accompanied by gasps and pointing. Why are people so bloody rude?

PastaandCheese · 23/02/2014 07:22

Sigh..... What do they expect you to say re 'any signs' anyway?

I'm quite tempted to say 'well, I've lose snotty mucus every time I have a wee, I am leaking colostrum from my right boob only and when I self examined my cervix I could get a finger tip in so what would your assessment of how close I am to delivery be'?

(Disclaimer: I made up the bit about self examining my cervix)

My very lovely friend keeps saying 'it will be soon' which is mad really because even if I went the full two weeks over now and was induced it would still be soon!

I'm back to little teasing period pains this morning which is better than yesterday I guess. Trying to decide whether to take a paracetamol and go out for the day with DH and DD or stay in an waste the day symptom spotting???

JustCallMeBaldrick · 23/02/2014 07:59

Please can I join you? I'm 40 weeks today, and thoroughly fed up. This is baby number 4 - twins, then DD, now our 'bonus baby' Wink
Surely this one will just sneeze out?
Ladies on my AN thread keep having theirs early, and I'm feeling a bit resentful - how stupid is that?!
Absolutely no signs of anything happening imminently. Humph.

Izzyalex · 23/02/2014 08:44

Welcome justcallmebaldrick, resentful feelings welcome here!
Just tell everyone to bog off!!!
pasta - mild period pains here too, was woken up with something at 5am and got all excited thinking that was it but then woke up again at 7am so obviously not.

PastaandCheese · 23/02/2014 09:04

All gone again izzyalex. I'm going out for the day. Can't stand thinking about when it might come anymore.

Hello justcallmebaldrick. I felt incredible rage towards anyone with a due date after me who had their baby before me last time. This time I have no NCT or ante natal yoga group so have avoided this torture.

Izzyalex · 23/02/2014 09:39

Ah rubbish.
Have a great day pasta

JustCallMeBaldrick · 23/02/2014 09:41

Thanks pasta and Izzy

Oh, and hi rockchick!

KatieChooChoo · 23/02/2014 12:22

Warm welcome JustCallMeBaldrick .... twins......... WOW. So so so cute but i can't even begin to imagine the hard work involved there. You must have the patients of a saint and a cervix ready sneeze number 4 out. Best of luck. Just out of interest how old are your other 3?

Pasts ignorantly I thought id be able to self examine last time with ds, till i realised i couldnt stretch my arm long enough round my bump and after speaking with a midwife was informed that the parts id need to reach were tucked away.
Period cramps are just pissing me off now. Every time they come on warn everyone to be on stand by, the poors sods have a restless nights sleep (i would sympathise but why should be the only one?! Turning over is impossible without either holding the headboard or grabbing dp).

uptheduff you would be totally justified to respond with a sarcastic reply on FB or to anyone in person for that matter. Ive realised from being this over due that making obvious comments to pregnant woman will do nothing but PISS them off even more than they already are!

IzzyAlex Its real piss take when cramps wake you, get you excited and then ............ NOTHING. I feel your pain hun. With regard to giving your dp some action in order to try and get things started, well, we tried just after my due date. It wasnt romantic and we had to give up before before 2nd base. The thought makes my eyes water but im quite swollen already down there, im sure ive an ingrowing hair on my lip. Ive took to applying nappy cream but its getting no better. Sorry for the graphics Embarrassed: Blush

Rockchick how are your signs doing?

Painless and happy labour vibes everyone xx
