Anybody else overdue and just waiting for things to happen? I know I am not that overdue but I feel like every day is dragging sooooo much.

Do you want grumble about it with me?

Congratulations from me too! Hope you're doing ok and looking forward to getting home.

I had a sweep yesterday morning and a show in the evening so who knows, maybe something is beginning to happen here too!

metalelephant · 08/10/2011 18:29

Well, I have officially given up hope. I have a sweep tomorrow and I'm quite sure the midwife will tell me my cervix has grown longer and I will never ever give birth. Sad

metalelephant · 08/10/2011 22:27

...It's not tomorrow, it's Monday, an even longer wait aaaarrrgh SadSadSad

golemmings · 10/10/2011 07:19

Oh metal. I am sorry. Be thinking of you today but hoping something happened yesterday. Fingers crossed for you too Casi and anyone else still waiting. It is incredibly frustrating but worth the wait in the end.

metalelephant · 10/10/2011 10:07

thanks golemmings, all the best for you and your little one, you must be so happy!

Casi · 10/10/2011 22:05

2 sweeps done, hot curry, long walk, reflexology, sex and a huge bowl of pineapple. Still nothing.

Am officially giving up!

kleeen · 11/10/2011 16:46

Casi ? I TOTALLY feel your pain. Due 2 Oct, haven't felt anything besides a few tightenings. Have had acupuncture, reflexology, curry, sex, walks, raspberry leaf tea, bouncing on the ball...nothing has worked so far. Trying not to get discouraged. Staying as busy as possible, but am coming to terms with the fact that my home birth could likely be an induction...I just can't wait to meet this little one!

And I'm trying not to get too frustrated by all of the (very well-meaning) texts, emails and phone calls asking if I've had the baby yet.

I keep reminding everyone that I WILL LET THEM KNOW! I'm not going to keep it a secret!

metalelephant · 12/10/2011 16:01

Hello again, baby metal is here! Was induced with a pessary on Tuesday early evening, all calm till elevenish ( was already getting certain this wasn't working)
By eleven started getting mild contractions, waters went at 1am, DD born at 6.30 am! Despite begging for an epidural Blush, the labour ward was full so went all natural and laboured till the last minute at antenatal. Brilliant midwifes, though the one shot of pethidine I got early on turned me into a bit of a stoner... Blush

She has no fixed name yet, probably won't be baby elephant for long, though it's quite a nice name, no?

Good luck everybody, I'm very happy that I was induced but went down the natural route... It was not what I had hoped for, ie a waterbirth, much faster and shocking than I expected but I tried to keep an open mind and feel utterly grateful to my midwifes. Who said hospital births can't be natural, even the induced kind! Grin

InMyPrime · 12/10/2011 19:56

Hi all, just an update to say that I missed my induction date by a day because my DS decided to finally get moving by himself. It started on Sunday morning with some cramps and pain, then I was getting regular contractions 4 minutes apart by Sunday afternoon, went into the hospital at midnight at 4cm dilated and everything was going really well. We thought he'd be born early Monday morning as things were going well. Unfortunately the labour got difficult and I never progressed beyond 6cm despite really painful contractions. I was in agony so they gave me an epidural and that helped to progress me to full dilation but I was so exhausted by then that the second stage didn't go so well either. Ended up with an assisted delivery in a theatre with an army of doctors(!) so most definitely not ideal but, hey, it started off naturally and I was happy to have the medical intervention to help him and me. He's safe and sound now in his Moses basket next to me. I feel shattered but am on the mend.

Congrats to you as well metal elephant! Funny that you ended up with a natural birth and artificial beginning, whereas I had an artificial end and natural beginning. Goes to show that they all get here in their own way so there's no need for us to feel bad over being late or needing help at any stage of the process.

Good luck to everyone who is still waiting - let's hope your DCs are here soon Smile

metalelephant · 12/10/2011 21:08

Congratulations InMyPrime! You are so right that we needn't feel bad for needing any help, all that matters is that little one in the Moses basket! If I do feel bad for anything it's probably terrorising fellow mothers to be with my bit of shouting... Blush

Good luck and bon courage everybody!

xxxx

Casi · 13/10/2011 00:00

Congratulations metalelephant and InMyPrime!! Very pleased for you both and hope you're recovering well. I had third sweep today, induction looming on Friday night if nothing has happened before then. Hopefully by the end of the weekend I'll have a baby too!

Enjoy every moment!

LittlePebble · 13/10/2011 08:45

Hello can I join the wait? 40+4 today and getting impatient. Ist DC so no idea what to expect and had a sweep yesterday where MW said I'm one cm dilated. Not sure if that means baby is imminent or if I will have to wait for ages?

golemmings · 13/10/2011 10:23

Congratulations prime baby and baby elephant. Casi, its your turn next. Here's hoping you get the birth that you want.

gluttom · 13/10/2011 10:29

I had my baby last Frida. Was induced - had pessary at 530am and baby arrived at 943am - so quick - went from 3cm to birth in 15 minutes.

metalelephant · 13/10/2011 12:01

Wow glutton that must be a record breaking time!

Congratulations!

metalelephant · 13/10/2011 21:36

Apologies for misspelling of your name...

Msissa · 14/10/2011 03:49

Ok, naughty SuperBump and I are joining the party...it's nearly 4am which means I'm now 7 days overdue. Grr!
Sweep booked for Tuesday (+11 days) & then we'll fix an induction - I'd smugly thought this wasn't going to happen as DS was 8 days late but labour was completely spontaneous.
Any suggestions as to whether I should be trying to get my sweep bumped up? 40+11 sounds late as I read through this thread...

LittlePebble · 14/10/2011 05:52

Morning Msissa, I've had one sweep at 40+3 and hopefully having 2nd today. Induction is booked for 40+12 so waiting til 40+11 does sound a long time to me. Maybe they're hoping you'll do it naturally again?

Msissa · 14/10/2011 09:29

Thanks, LittlePebble, I needed some validation to make sure I wasn't just being the hormonal nutbag lady - just rang the midwife and she agreed to come this morning to do a sweep...now just need to find someone to look after DS so he doesn't join in..!
Hope your sweep works like a charm Wink
