Do you want grumble about it with me?

hey
sorry nothing seems to be moving for people! i hope the sweeps start getting things going soon. this is my official due date and all i have is a sore stomach from using my stomach muscles to get up instead of rolling over to my side last night. it kills all over the front of my stomach but not anything like the tightening of contractions unfortunately!! i have another sweep on tuesday.
when do you usually get an induction is it around week 42?
its keeping occupied in the meantime that i will find the hardest, and yes littledoe everyone asking have i any news yet - i am texting some people first thing in morning saying 'no baby yet' lol
xx

yummymango · 25/09/2011 09:07

Hey all, Jan it's my due today as well - I have told her it's her birthday but she is not listening!! I am hoping they will give me a sweep on Wednesday if nothing has happened before then. Still getting loads of BH but nothing else.

Good luck Annamaria!
Elderberries - any news??

mummytomatildaandrose · 25/09/2011 10:19

Just seen this thread and I can't believe I haven't written all your comments for you!! I am now 40+6 and FED UP!!! This is my third baby, and lots of people have said that they are tricky ones. I am desperate to have a water birth as I had one with my second and it was excellent. At this rate, I'm going to have to be induced which is rubbish. I have literally tried everything. JUST SO BORED!!!

BobbieSox · 25/09/2011 11:38

Well, my sweep worked!

Despite midwife thinking it would be a while longer our little boy was born 8 days late at 1.37 this morning :)

Followed her orders of having sex that afternoon and was having on and off pains from around 6.

Called her to come at around midnight, she came at 12.30 and I was not happy when told I was only 3cm...but he was born in the pool in our kitchen an hour later!

Hope this gives those who got negative news from their sweeps some hope - looks like cervixes are a law unto themselves!

Looking forward to reading more baby news on this thread soon :)

LittleDoe · 25/09/2011 14:18

Yipppeeee - congratulations BobbieSox!! Fantastic news. You must be over the moon. Sounds like a fab birth too. Well done you.

I've been having on/off contractions since 2am but they've been all over the place in terms of timing and length so definitely still in early labour. Currently pretty much stopped :(. DS has been packed off to my mum's (indefinitely!) so am really hoping that things kick off properly later today or tonight seeing as childcare is, for the moment, taken care of.

I thought second labours were meant to be fast???

Any news from anyone else? Elderberries?

yummymango · 25/09/2011 15:41

Yippppeeee congratulations bobbiesox!!

Elderberries · 25/09/2011 18:03

Congratulations Bobbiesox - well done you! It's nice to have had one of us actually reach the finish line. I'm having a boy too.

Sorry I've not been posting - I think I was just feeling sick of being pregnant. I've got a sweep booked in for tomorrow at 2.30 so I hope things will have progressed enough for that to work...although I'm not feeling that optimistic.

Had light period pains and braxton hicks today but it doesn't seem to be coming to anything.

I have decided to refuse the induction on tuesday 40 + 10 and ask for expectant management. I'm thinking I will hold out till day 14 and then be induced if nothing has happened by then.

My booking in due date would have been 4 days later than the one they gave me at my 12 week scan and since this stuff isn't an exact science I think 4 extra days seems OK to me if everything else looks OK.

So feeling more positive.

Going for lots of walks, taking rasberry leaf capsules (even though I'm sceptical). Sex is proving a bit difficult. I'm just not feeling attractive.

Have to say that although that the midwife couldn't do the last sweep it still REALLY hurt. Wimp I am.

Good luck to all. The last push - she said hopefully!

Welcome Mummyto - I am so looking forward to a glass of Wine after this is all over!

Jan11 - in my area they do inductions at due date + 10 but it is different in different hospitals. NICE advises between 1 week and two weeks overdue (with expectant management offered as an alternative to induction.

Golem - my kitchen floor still looks grim....but do have a nice sparkly bathroom now.

Hiya all. I went into labour at 40+4, and had her at 4:15 the following morning. I had all but given up hope of her ever coming out but she did in the end and it is wonderful to finally have her here. It will happen for all of you sooner or later.
I wish you all the best
Karen

mummytomatildaandrose · 25/09/2011 20:26

Congratulations bobbiesox - hurrah, someone has reached the finish line! Today we have tried oils in the bath from the midwife followed by sex, now having an extra hot supper and have sweep no.2 booked in for 11.30am mon morning. Fingers crossed!!

Elderberries · 26/09/2011 17:46

Had my sweep. She said I was still quite posterior and firm but she did manage to do a 'small' one she said. And this one wasn't painful. But am having tightenings since about an hour afterwards.....so maybe it will get things going.

Fingers crossed.

golemmings · 26/09/2011 18:23

Congratulations Bobbiesox! That all seemed to happen remarkably quickly when it got going.

I'm currently hoping for no action at all. Saw the midwife this morning and was booked in for a sweep on Friday (41+1) but then she palpated the baby and really wasn't convinced which way up it is. Its either really deeply engaged (but was completely free on Thursday) and she could feel its shoulders and it has a really bony bum OR its breech.

I'm booked in for a scan tomorrow lunch time to confirm. A scan at 36 weeks showed it to be head down but most people (3 midwives, 2 consultants and a GP) have all been quite uncertain when they've tried to call it. If it is breech its almost certainly too late to turn it and having had a 3rd degree tear last time I'm probably looking at a section.

She was very keen to tell me that 70% of women deliver naturally before their induction date.

golemmings · 27/09/2011 20:51

Its all gone very quiet here... am I the only person left??

Elderberries · 27/09/2011 22:50

No I'm still about and feeling a bit low about the whole thing. Got an induction booked for Friday. 40 + 13.

catgirl2 · 28/09/2011 07:39

Congratulations Bobbiesox! Golemmings, hope you get some firm news soon so you know what the situation is. Elderberries, sorry to hear you are feeling a bit low. It's still only Wednesday. I guess at least you know that you have a date in sight and will not have to wait too much longer to meet your baby!

I'm 41 weeks today, have a sweep this morning and midwife will book an induction date for me then. Started to get quite irritated with friends and family constantly asking. Know they mean well but it's making me quite stressed!

impatienttobemummy · 28/09/2011 09:13

Hi all im a newbie.... 41+2 today had a sweep 40+6 which wasnt successful MW said im posterior and hard! induction booked for 2days time (Fri) I really really want to start naturally! tried it all....not budging! Fingers crossed for those of us left that its soon!

catgirl2 · 28/09/2011 10:16

Welcome impatienttobemummy! It's so frustrating isn't it?! Just had another sweep but they couldn't really do a proper one as I don't think things are very 'happening' yet and from the sounds of it don't think they will be any time soon. Booked in for induction on Tuesday, would love it to happen naturally before then but by then I think I will just want it out! Very funny feeling having to fill up my days now but trying to view it as bonus time!

golemmings · 28/09/2011 10:22

Elderberries. I guess induction wasn't what you planned but it is only 2 more sleeps until you get to meet your baby. Friend of mine realised (after 2 kids and 2 inductions at 40+14+) that she had a really long menstrual cycle and would never deliver at 'normal' term so for her third child she refused an induction and he was eventually born about 3 weeks late so it is possibly to opt out of induction and go natural. They made her go in for a scan every day though (they thought the hassle would put her off) but it worked well for her as an alternative to induction.

Good luck cat girl hope the sweep has a positive effect and that things start to happen for you.

And impatient - glad to have some more company for the loong wait!

Stase · 28/09/2011 10:42

Can I join the whinge? I'm 41 weeks today, had two sweeps and nothing doing...
I've got to go for monitoring and to discuss induction on Saturday morning, I think they prefer to start induction at 12 days over, which would be Monday next week, but I would wait until +14 if I could, or longer.

The midwife I saw yesterday said that the hospital is really busy (nine months since Xmas/New Year?) and they might not be able to spare the 1-1 care that you get with the pool (although you also need 1-1 care for an induction, right?).
Bit gutted it's not happening by itself. DH is refusing to do his duty to help things along as well. This is the worst bit of pregnancy by far! Sad

impatienttobemummy · 28/09/2011 11:35

Oh Stase you just made me laugh out loud....DP also will not 'do his duty' either!! Its so nice having this thread and not feeling alone!

Keep active today Catgirl after your sweep you never know...!

Elderberries we maybe in the hospital at the same time! Although induction isnt what i planned..having an 'end point' is helping me to get through this week.

The MW who did my sweep on Sunday said that its my hospital policy to only have 1 sweep?! grr so I wasted mine by being impatient and wanting it early! Got MW again on Thurs am thinking of begging for another 1?!

Stase · 28/09/2011 11:42

Why would they only do one sweep? It's a really straightforward procedure isn't it? No risks attached as far as I'm aware.

Glad I made you laugh Grin I'm not particularly up for it myself, in fact I have NEVER felt less sexy, but I'm getting a bit desperate now.

impatienttobemummy · 28/09/2011 12:05

I know! Im hoping she was wrong, my usual midwife is lovely, im thinking if I ask her to 'examine' me to see what is happening...and then saying 'while your there you may as well' he he!

I have been thinking about what Golemmings said about long cycles and refusing induction, im thinking of waiting until Monday when ill be fully 42 weeks, id definately want to be examined on Thurs though to see if im progressing at all with all of the bouncing on my birthing ball ive been doing
;-)

I hear you.... nothing is less sexy than me right now!

catgirl2 · 28/09/2011 17:01

Hi Stase and welcome! It's actually so lovely having people to chat to about this. I do keep thinking I should not be moaning as am so lucky to be having a baby and have friends that are struggling to get pregnant in the first place. Think the problem is that the days seem so long and it's just a waiting game so hard not to think about it! The lighthearted comments from friends and family also do nothing to help us concentrate on other stuff!

impatient - I have another sweep booked on Sat and that will be my third in a week so the local hospital here appears to have no such policy! I have found it is helpful to be examined though just so you have a bit more of an idea about what's going on!
