Has anyone been?
Going?
Is there a festival thread somewhere?

DH booked tickets today. I haven't been to a festival in an age, and DH has only been camping once. We are taking the 3 DC who will be 1, 3, & 9.

Any tips/reassurance?

Oh I love look of the the Icey-Tek boxes!

DH has been whittering about keeping his beers cold since we booked tickets.

We won't be able to afford a new tent this year I think, so maybe we could stretch to a banging cool box in a rubbish two-man tent.Grin

Oo! I'm going this year, my first festival in general and going with the family I nanny for Grin I'm really excited and only actually am interested in seeing one adult thing (Newton Faulkner, love him)! I fully intend to drag take the girls to see the Gruffalo as I they will love it Wink

All the mention of fancy dress is making me want to take some of my bits and bobs along. I would die for a medieval style dress though...

Tell you what I will dive thorugh teh site everyday and let you knwo what is going on and how it is progressing.

mranchovy · 06/07/2011 01:02

Tempted, but going to Guilfest again this year (missed it last year as on hols) so not sure if both is realistic/affordable.

Bearcrumble · 06/07/2011 08:16

We are going - staying in a Gypsy caravan on site (splashed out as have free tickets. DH is DJing at the silent disco.

Tiredtrout · 06/07/2011 08:37

We are going for our third time this year. It's the one thing I do every year with my 3 sisters and our 7 kids. So excited. I've already started stocking up on choc filled crepes and the kids are already planning their menus from the website. Desperate to go to the silent disco this year. Does anyone know if the rumours of an early evening one is true?

I will be avoiding marcus brigstocke though after he was rude to my ds when he asked for an autograph for his cousin last year. Very bad man

winefairy · 06/07/2011 09:34

Icey-Tek definitely the way forward for chilled wine. And food of course. Not forgetting the food!

Slightly worried after Don'tCall mentioned the possibility of theft but in the end decided chilled wine for the entire weekend was worth the risk!

fivegomad, drive past, drive past!

KatieWatie · 06/07/2011 11:16

I'm so jealous of anyone going. The Cure's only European gig this year - I have been trying to see them for the past 5 years :(

I will be 37 weeks pregnant so I think it would be out of the question even if I had tickets...

MmeGuillotine · 06/07/2011 11:32

sfxmum, no, alas. I'm all for such things but my husband is rather less keen. He'd rather do things himself and turn the air blue with incessant complaining while he's about it...

MmeGuillotine · 06/07/2011 11:33

Tiredtrout, I've heard that there will be an early evening silent disco this year but it hasn't been confirmed yet. I really hope they do it!

Insomnia11 · 06/07/2011 11:35

Can you get tickets to go in and out and not camp there?

Is Bestival better than IOW festival for children?

I ask as my DPs live on the IOW and every year I think "I'd love to go to Bestival...maybe when the kids are older?"

sfxmum · 06/07/2011 11:35

Katie that is Bestival (isle of Wight)for The Cure not it's little sister CampBestival (Lullworth Dorset)

sfxmum · 06/07/2011 11:38

Insomnia quite a lot of Festivals are fine for children and seem to be a growing Market anyway. I know people who take children to IOW and seems ok, just don't take them to Reading Grin
CampB Latitude Larmer etc very child friendly we have taken our dd since she was a toddler

MmeGuillotine · 06/07/2011 11:38

Ah okay, just seen that there's going to be a Silent Disco on the Saturday evening between 6.15pm and 7.15pm in the Big Top! Hurray! I'll definitely be at that! :)

Insomnia11 · 06/07/2011 12:14

I think I'll wait another year at least before taking the girls - at next year's they'll be 3 and 7 so no pushchair/nappy issues, and DD2 currently wanders off at will, I'd be so anxious about losing her - she'd wake up early and raid someone else's tent for biscuits.

Also I quite like the idea of going without the kids...

Insomnia11 · 06/07/2011 12:14

Thanks sfxmum.

mrszimmerman · 06/07/2011 12:21

YES CAN'T WAIT
just bought a bigger tent
dd looking forward to "Camp Vegetable"
ahhh
I loved it so much last year but we went with mates and they are able campers so we ligged on their stove and were partly cared for by them!
Will be better prepped this year...
Still plenty wipes
More snacks this time
Easy to spend a FORTUNE on food isn't it?

vbus · 06/07/2011 14:01

MrsZ - LOL at Camp vegetable Grin

MmeG - thanks for info, will look out for trolley hire. Although liking the sound of tractor ride and cocktails!

DS2 also v.keen on seeing Gruffalo

JanMorrow · 06/07/2011 14:14

We went last year (without kids!). It's so lovely and is crawling with kids, they all seemed to have a blast. I'd highly reccomend it to anyone. I'm going to go with ours as soon as they're old enough.

any emoticon for feck off?

MissBetsyTrotwood · 06/07/2011 17:04

We markerpenned our numbers on the kids' arms.

We applied all day suncream (ultrasun rocked) in the morning so any face/body painting action wasn't smudged.

Plastic bags with wads of loo roll in the bottom for impromptu wees etc.

Disposable cameras for the 4yo.

Walkie talkies for the camping area.

Glowsticks, ear defenders, torches...

Sure there's more but can't remember much now! Was Glasto tho, not CB.

Bearcrumble · 06/07/2011 18:17

DH says any special song requests for silent disco?

sfxmum · 06/07/2011 18:54
