Has anyone been?
Going?
Is there a festival thread somewhere?

DH booked tickets today. I haven't been to a festival in an age, and DH has only been camping once. We are taking the 3 DC who will be 1, 3, & 9.

Any tips/reassurance?

Will carry on with lists this evening, being a list-y kind of person & nothing if not obsessive organised.

However, has anyone got their tickets though yet? Just wondering when they'll arrive.

We bought one child ticket on its own which has arrived. The tickets we bought on the payment plan haven't come. So we'll have to decide which child we are sending on their own.

I seem to recall, last year the tickets arrived relatively late certainly towards the end of June, I remember picking them up from the post office and te guy was trying to guess which festival they were for 'not Glasto, too late' he saidGrin

I found my 'camping stuff' list. It has a subheading of 'festival stuff':

solar fairy lights (tick)
flag and pole (tick)
bunting (not sure my tent is really a bunting kind of tent)
costumes (decided against)
frozen wine box
heavy duty tent pegs (tick)
cereal bars (random)

I love face painting. I've added DD as a tiger to my profile ... I did that for her to go to an animal-themed party, five minutes after she arrived her friend kicked her in the face on the bouncy castle, out came her (extremely wobbly) tooth, and she cried, dribbled and bled most of the face-painting off.

What are sleeping bag liners for [ignorant]? I have finally ordered some ear defenders and fairy lights. Not just fairy lights but LED fibre optic colour changing butterflies no less! I'm hoping that they are just as tacky and garish as they sound Grin

Fantastic face painting dcmb - my dd chose to be a knight on her third birthday, I don't think she really knew what it was & the face painting lady struggled a bit, so in fact she looked like a skull for the entire afternoon. But she was delighted. My friend does glitter tattoos for kids which look fabulous, but the process is a bit involved. Maybe I'll ask her to do one for the dcs before CB.

Can you freeze wine boxes, baby? Can you? Oh that would be goooood.

DH is soooooo worried about booze chilling.

It's my birthday on the 28th, and dear god, I want chilled wine.

Sleeping bag liners; fleece "sheaths" that go inside the sleeping bag. I got stary ones from primark for one pound each!

To keep you warm I assume - got to get some of them then! It's my birthday on the 30th. Happy birthday us Smile.

To keep you warm, and to keep the sleeping bag clean - although our sleeping bags are so cheap and nasty I'd been inclined to just ditch them if they get whiffy. I got REALLY cold the last time we went camping, so I've got myself a fleece liner for extra warmth (it was just me, I've lost quite a bit of weight and I swear my body hasn't adapted to the lack of insulation). I'm on the lookout for one of DD just in case, but kids' ones aren't as easy to come by as adult ones. I'm also consider flannel/jersey sheets for the airbeds with a reflective mat underneath (you have to bear in mind I AM doing general camping shopping as well as for CB!)

O.M.G.

I have just realised something. I had a dream last night about ... self-inflating mats. I think I may need to step away from the Camping topic for a day or two. :o

Alternatively, I think I may need a trip to the ghetto end of the high street, for some camping bargains from Poundland, Wilkos and Primark. :o :o

Tickets for weekend and car parking just arrived this morning. Wonder when the Thursday night & camping plus ones will come?

jersey/flannel liners sound lush. Am dreaming of snuggling into sleeping bag already.

I'm confused - got my Thursday tickets at the end of last week, but no sign of weekend ones Confused

will have to scour all known "safe places" in case I have put them away for safekeeping Hmm Grin

lucia you can probably answer a question for me - with your Thursday night camping tickets - did you have to pay extra to go in Camping Plus for the extra night, if you see what I mean? I had thought about booking us all in for Thursday but I wasn't sure how it would work with our Camping Plus.

I haven't has to pay anymore for Boutique camping (well, I am sure I have but it was al in the original price, iyswim?)

booked our weekend tickets on Earlybird last September. booked boutique camping a couple of months ago. and finally got around to getting thursday tickets a couple of weeks ago.

all fine, and boutique camping ticket covers Thursday night too, so don't see why you would pay more for camping plus ticket.

Thanks Strawberries, that makes sense. Might book Thursday then, we have a 4 hour drive to get down to Lulworth (plus queuing from Wool) so it would give us more breathing space.

Report
growingstrawberries · 16/06/2011 12:35

yes, we have a lengthy drive too - got there mid afternoon Friday last year, so missed a good chunk of stuff (and nearly missed Mr Tumble Shock)

so thought we'd go on thursday this year, and get settled in etc (and have a chance to work out our timetable!) before anything starts happening.

well, that's the plan now anyway Grin - bet we leave really late, don't find a programme until friday lunchtime, and still scramble around hastily Grin

I've been meaning to plan it properly for the last two years, but every year I end up missing acts I wanted to see.

all I really want is dry weather, we have not had a dry festival for the last 3 years, would love some sunshine, that will do me Smile

I've just booked Thursday night camping.

If I start suggesting that LOADS of people might be going on Thursday, and that therefore we ought to aim to get there early anyway, my friend has permission to slap me (this is all in order that I don't lose my mind and go to pick her and the kids up at 5am on Friday).

I missed the frozen wine box question earlier - I think I picked this up from the Bestival/Camp Bestival forums. You might want to take a glass or two our before freezing it, but ISTR the bags inside wine boxes have a bit of room inside anyway, so it might just expand into that. Google reveals no evidence that short-term freezing affects the quality of wine in any way. So, a solution to the no-glass rule AND a source of COLD wine. Ace. Will go a treat with that sunny weather sfxmum has ordered.

I don't think I paid extra for Camping plus on top of the Thursday night cost, just the extra for the night. Think CPlus was £110/120? Something like that.

No tickets for me yet Envy
No idea yet how to make tent distinctive other than hoping the neighbouring ones are
Anyone following the posts on FB? lots good info

Ooh, FB stuff is useful. Especially that other people are still waiting for tickets - I'm sometimes a bit slack at actually OPENING my post and I keep having attacks of paranoia that my tickets are in the bill pile somewhere.

A wine box snuck in with the Ocado order that's due tonight. I don't know what I was thinking - now I will have to explain to DH that I've bought a box of wine for an event that is still six weeks off.

sfxmum - we just have a distinctive flag above ours, means you can see where you're heading from some way off.

Have had a useful day preparing.

Have bought SIMs for everyone, 7cm Outwell ones for us and 5cm Vango ones for the DC. Feeling rather smug (in a nice way I hope).

Have also won an auction for a medieval dress on ebay - wooooooo!

Now need to get onto nittygritty of food/wine/stuff planning but am being distracted by the thought of NEEDING a large flag now... Pirate one?

DontCallMeBaby · 19/06/2011 19:32

The winebox is smaller than I'd thought, and has been sneakily inserted down the side of the winerack. AMAZING that there are FOUR bottles of wine in there.

No sleeping bag liners in Primark - going to have to get one online for DD I think, none of the outdoor shops have kids' ones in. I bought fleecy blankets and other random stuff in Wilkos, and mostly glowsticks in Poundland.

I need to talk to my friend about getting there ... really need to make sure all the children fit in the car. That's quite important. And whether we can feasibly have them share two portable DVDs between the three of them, or if they'll just have to be sedated or something.

dd suggested for flag giant underpants or giant boobiesHmm can you tell she is 6? we would probably become student central looking for the good stuff

we take a wine box too, it helps

no sign of tickets yet
