Has anyone been?
Going?
Is there a festival thread somewhere?

DH booked tickets today. I haven't been to a festival in an age, and DH has only been camping once. We are taking the 3 DC who will be 1, 3, & 9.

Any tips/reassurance?

I want this dress (thanks to a certain blogging someone). Although I adore the Kelmscott dress on the same site it's too expensive. There's a really sweet DD sized dress as well for no more than you'd pay for a fancy dress costume.

TheFowlAndThePussycat · 02/06/2011 18:52

MmeG, I started reading the blog, but was then thrown into a reverie by the memory of tie dye clothes with tiny mirrors sewn on. I think I have such an item to this day... It's in a box with my Levellers top Grin.

A sewing pattern would be ace if anyone can find one. that way my mum can sort it out

TheFowlAndThePussycat · 02/06/2011 19:07

Wow, I'm discovering my inner goth on some of those costume websites! Velvet and lacing seems to be the order of the day.

luciadilammermoor · 02/06/2011 19:57

Now I might just be turning into my mother here (crosses self and turns three times widdershins) but am I the only one thinking I might be a touch hot in velvet in July? They look fab but I am moving toward some cool wrinkled linen.

Simplicity do historical dress patterns but I can't find any online. Will visit haberdashers in town.

TheFowlAndThePussycat · 02/06/2011 20:40

Yes, might be a bit warm in the undoubtedly tropical temperatures we will be experiencing! Anyway, it seems that being a comely size 16 my only options are the wench-type linen affairs, apparently maid marions only come in size 10-12 Grin

I think dh is almost persuaded by the prospect of being a knight. Struggling to find any good costumes in the dds sizes

jennylindinha · 02/06/2011 21:15

Hello all, I am going to Camp Bestival with DP, DD and DSD plus loads of mates and their kids! Really looking forward to it. Do lots of people dress up then? I am intrigued by the medieval theme and quite fancy making a dresses for us all (well, maybe not DP!)

This site is really good. They are in the USA but I've bought from them several times and the delivery time is not too bad. I am considering the pattern I linked to but there are tons of costumes. This one is good too and check out the kids one here!

Ooh, I feel some creativity coming on...

TheFowlAndThePussycat · 02/06/2011 22:16

That is a fantastic site! There are some quite easy ones there too which is important as I'm as not an expert seamstress! How long do you usually wait for delivery?

DontCallMeBaby · 02/06/2011 22:16

Oh, Lucia, you're no fun - you'll be checking we've washed behind our ears next.

I can't sew. Maybe if I promise my mum a better class of nursing home when the time comes she'll make me something.

jennylindinha · 02/06/2011 22:31

I think it takes about a week - 10 days for delivery, but I've never had any problems with them arriving. I usually buy a few to make up for the postage cost but it is worth it. Mind you, I've not done any sewing in a while. I guess if you ordered now you would have a month to make somethng in time. The McCalls bit has some other good patterns, including some knights I think! Not sure I can persuade DP though...Grin

TheFowlAndThePussycat · 02/06/2011 22:40

Have ordered! My Dh has agreed to be a knight! Very exciting. Now for bunting, fairy lights, ear defenders and oh, er, yes, a tent!

QueeferSutherland · 02/06/2011 22:52

I have a dress, but it is rather nylon, and doesn't quite reach the floor. I want flowy.

I saw someone linked to holy clothing on your blog MmeG. (You're a FOX btw.) I was looking at their stuff on ebay. Cotton would be better, wouldn't it. I may try to give DD my costume.

Baby dragon costume.

DH wants to be a scorcerer now, but he'll probably end up with a knight's tabbard.

Is it terrible I have a dress and rugs but no tent yet?

MarionCole · 02/06/2011 23:02

We're going, third time. DS will be a dragon, DH a princess.

luciadilammermoor · 02/06/2011 23:04

Sorry Grin! Just aware that I will have been camping for two nights before the Saturday dress up day and what with festival showers n babywipes n stuff, one might not be at one's most fragrant 'best' as 'twere.

Of course, having reading MG's blog about last year, there could be amusing little plungepools and a fully functioning spa with creche installed - can but dream.

Linen/cotton it is for me and some max strength deod

MmeGuillotine · 02/06/2011 23:46

blush Thank you Queefer. :)

Lucia, there was a Lush spa there last year! It was a bit pricey though - I got all excited then realised I would have to give them all my money just to get my feet rubbed. SADFACE.

TheFowlAndThePussycat · 03/06/2011 07:21

Seriously Marion is your Dh going as a princess? I thought mine was brave Grin

luciadilammermoor · 03/06/2011 12:43

No, a spa, really? Right, will count pennies.

Re costumes for men, my DH wasn't bothered about dressing up until one of his 'friends' started banging on about Blackadder and codpieces. Now it's a pissing contest to see who can source the largest codpiece. I have reminded him it's a family festival but I may be losing the battle. Sigh.

MarionCole · 03/06/2011 18:33

He's going as a princess. All 18 stone of him. He has a long purple gown that we bought from ebay. I will be making a long pointy hat with chiffon flowing from teh top.

DontCallMeBaby · 03/06/2011 19:44

Okay, sod the Isle of Boden/coffee/nice ham plan - we will meet at the foot of MrCole. He should be pretty distinctive.

TheFowlAndThePussycat · 03/06/2011 20:00

See you there DCB! Sounds, er, striking Marion Grin Tbh I think mrcole might get away with princess slightly better than my shortarse vertically challenged skinny slight dh, who also has very beautiful brown eyes. In a dress he might get the sort of attention he wouldn't necessarily welcome!

What are you wearing Marion?

DontCallMeBaby · 03/06/2011 22:44

And if (extraordinarily unlikely) we can't find MrCole we can hang out in the shade of the enormous codpieces.

I'm suddenly quite glad DH isn't coming with us. Actually I was always glad he wasn't coming with us as he would try to insist on bedtime, whereas I'm going to fulfil my desire to see just how long DD can stay awake without keeling over. My only fear is that the answer may be 'considerably longer than mummy'.

I'm all afluster over costumes now.

fivegomadindorset · 03/06/2011 22:49

It was hugelt tropical down here today Grin, no way will I be doing velvet if it is like this, a word of warning we tend to have our own microclimate down here so can be beautiful sunshine here(CB site) and pissing down with rain a mile down the road or a really bad sea mist and then beautiful sunshine down the road.

MarionCole · 03/06/2011 23:02

I have no idea what I shall be wearing. Quite like the idea of a codpiece.

sfxmum · 04/06/2011 20:02

question for the local please like going to the sea and having a cooked breakfast on the Monday pot festival, do you have any recommendations?
last year we headed for the cove and ate at the only place which was opened and served breakfast, it was ok but not great
made me miss the cafe at Southwold we went to 3 years running, so yummy

sfxmum · 04/06/2011 20:03

apologies for the stupid post
it should read

here, gets very good reviews, my sister and friends love it, and then on to Kimmeridge which is my favourite beach, no sand or pebbles but big slate rocks with fossils in and amazing rock pools.

Or head up toe Durdle Door caravan park and eat breakfast at Harry's then on to Durdle Door.

Or Middle Beach Cafe at Studland, fab food.
