Has anyone been?
Going?
Is there a festival thread somewhere?

DH booked tickets today. I haven't been to a festival in an age, and DH has only been camping once. We are taking the 3 DC who will be 1, 3, & 9.

Any tips/reassurance?

evil if you can get to Southampton I could collect you. PM me.

LieInsAreRarerThanTigers · 13/07/2011 16:24

Have you looked at getting a railcard? Even though your 3 year old doesn't have to pay a fare you can choose to pay and it actually save money - I have done this.

thatgirlsevil · 13/07/2011 18:16

Hi LieIns, thanks for the offer but the arrival/departure times are just so awkward that I would feel bad doing that. I am looking at railcards now and trying to work out which one I am eligible for, my LO is only 3 so think the family and friends one is a no-go.

I am actually determined to go now...a strange sense of determination is overwhelming me because I know my DS would have the time of his life.

10 hour train journeys with 3 changes are starting to look appealing...am I delirious due to overexposure to timetables????

thatgirlsevil · 13/07/2011 18:28

Oh I see how the card works now, often cheaper to buy a childs ticket anyway.

Tiredtrout · 13/07/2011 18:53

Have you tried asking on the camp bestival forum or their facebook page? People are quite helpful on there

thatgirlsevil · 13/07/2011 19:01

Oh my fucking Christ...1 journey I found is 15hrs and 31 minutes National Express...and they still want 28 notes!

The peak journeys are all at least £80 with a £28 railcard...sod this, I have been searching all day and I don't even have vino for this evening.

Thanks for the offers/help and encouragement from everyone.

thatgirlsevil · 13/07/2011 19:11

Just asked on the facebook page, will try the forum later. Thanks again...I better get my LO to bed.

NotQuiteCockney · 14/07/2011 09:56

Camp Bestival put official ID bracelets on your kids, with your mobile number on them. No need to buy bracelets.

We're going this year, for the third time in a row. Staying in a hut. [lazy] (Well, it's just me and two kids, and carrying a tent etc by train is a 'mare.)

sfxmum · 14/07/2011 10:44

only 2 weeks to go[hsmile]

QueeferSutherland · 14/07/2011 11:16

Can you get to Southampton on the Friday, TGE?

I may be able to pick you up then, but not get you back on Monday.

Just realised Aunty Flo is that week! Shock

I have some microgynon knocking about. If I start it now could I avoid a visit?

Zikes, I hope I'm not in the same boat, mine is due around end of mth, yuk.

Evil - sending you positive transport vibes

Sfx - ta for weather update, fingers crossed rain finishes by the time fest starts!

We may go on thursday now, what's the deal with needing extra car park ticket? We have a car par ticket already, doesn't this cover parking or do we need to pay again on arrival on thurs? Confused

sfxmum · 14/07/2011 14:15

mine dues next week - ok update on the flow completeGrin

I think there is an extra ticket needed for thu parking whichcan be purchased on arrival afiak

vbus · 14/07/2011 14:17

Ta Sfx, if it's pouring down on thurs we may just go v.early on fri am anyway.

Dh still refusing to do trial run with new tent before we go, I can foresee tent rage upon arrival Hmm

happycamper23 · 14/07/2011 14:25

Hello, I have been lurking here for ages. First we weren't going then we got tickets as a wedding present :) so now taking our DS (2) for his third camp bestival and we are getting very excited.

Well I am getting excited; DS has no idea what I'm on about and DH refuses to get excited until a few days before.

I am also a lurker on the camp bestival forum and I found this

podcast

just giving us all a bit of a taste of what is to come Wine

sfxmum · 14/07/2011 14:29

actually might be talking nonsense, had a look at our tickets and it says Thur camping then normal Festival then a parking ticket which I am assuming covers the entire, paid for, stay

thatgirl how is it going?

sfxmum · 14/07/2011 14:31

we are definitely going on Thu, it will not matter if we are late then, things start early on Friday and the queues are enormous

thatgirlsevil · 14/07/2011 15:45

After much deliberating and fruitless searching of train/bus/coach/horse & carriage websites...we've worked something out and my friend is going to drive.

She has never attempted a 5 hour + journey before and also needed her tires changing...but her boyfriend has offered to help her out on the tire front and she insists that now is as good a time as any to do the lengthy journey because she'll have to do it sooner or later.

So Camp Bestival is officially GO...wahoo!

Now I've realised that I have feck all summery threads because I never go on holiday (gah) and I'm already worrying about fashioning a Dragon costume out of pipe cleaners and yoghurt pots. Actually DS says he would like to be a witch...that's Medieval enough innit?

OOOOOOOOOH I'M EXCITED!!!!

LieInsAreRarerThanTigers · 14/07/2011 15:51

Pleased for you tge! Do go early on the Thurs if poss as it has taken me 5 hours to get there from 40 miles away on the Friday. I'm not kidding!

thatgirlsevil · 14/07/2011 16:11

We'll be leaving after work/late on Thursday evening...probably 6pm, so by the time we get there and set up camp it's likely to be very late but at least we'll all sleep soundly!

I think travelling on the Friday morning is guaranteed to be hellish.

thatgirlsevil · 14/07/2011 16:11

and thanks LieIn's...I'm pretty pleased myself.

sfxmum · 14/07/2011 22:08

great news thatgirlGrin I bet you will all love it

QueeferSutherland · 15/07/2011 22:16

Excellent news TGE!

I took delivery of our shiny new bell tent today!

We had a trial run in the field at the bottom of our road. We did a shit job putting it up but the kids loved it. I'm a bit worried about the baby breaking free in the wee small hours.

OP posts:
sfxmum · 15/07/2011 22:41

just to note I had a look at the website and they say they do not allow admission to the campsite after midnight on any night, for those travelling late

DontCallMeBaby · 16/07/2011 08:22

Yay for belltent! My friend was getting slightly paranoid about the size of her tent yesterday, but it's 'only' a 4m belltent. :) We're just picking our campsite ...
