Has anyone been?
Going?
Is there a festival thread somewhere?

DH booked tickets today. I haven't been to a festival in an age, and DH has only been camping once. We are taking the 3 DC who will be 1, 3, & 9.

Any tips/reassurance?

I can't decide whether to buy this or not. It's a bit expensive. www.etsy.com/listing/59620859/rare-black-label-gunne-sax-blue-toile

Bearcrumble That's a really lovely costume! Stunning. Did you buy it?!

fivegomadindorset · 10/07/2011 08:28

My friends band is playing on Sunday on the Bandstand Grin

Bearcrumble · 11/07/2011 13:19

Yeah, I did in the end. Feeling a bit Blush becauseI'm supposed to be trying to be a bit more sensible with money.

Confused
Curlybrunette · 12/07/2011 12:49

Hi all,
OMG I am so excited, I've done loads of buying in the last week or so, just the essentials of course like food and flowers for my hair, a flag for the tent etc.

Just wanted to ask, some of you posted your lists of stuff you were taking, thanks so much for these, I've got some fab ideas from you. Could you also give me an idea of the type/amount of clothes you're taking please.

I haven't a clue how we're going to fit many clothes in the car, I think the boot is going to be filled with the tent, food and double buggy. The middle seat in the back is going to have the clothes (not the biggest of cars) the footwells will have the sleeping bags, blankets etc. the the front footwell will have all the food/drink toys etc. for the 6 hour journey to get there. Oh it's gonna be fun getting all the stuff from the car park to the campsite...Confused

vbus · 12/07/2011 14:13

Hello

Boot space a premium in our car too, not sure how it will all fit in Confused Crazy how much stuff we'll end up taking isn't it?

I'm taking v.little in terms of clothing, not taking anything dear or new and might even bin some of it when we leave Grin Waterproofs and wellies for all of us, shorts/jeans, tops for kids plus one jumper each and blanket for evening. Sunhats for day. Pj's to sleep in. They can re-use clothes if not too mucky. Baby legs (which I've still kept from baby days) under shorts came in v. handy in evening when temp cools down.

What sleeping bags have you got for you DC? haven't decided on this yet...

Curlybrunette · 12/07/2011 20:33

We've just got a tent set from Halfords that came with the airbeds and sleeping bags so I imagine they'll be pretty basic? I'm taking a few blankets as well and think it might be better if dh and I each sleep with a ds, rather than them being together. We can snuggle with the kids to help them keep warm and hopefully with the late nights they might sleep later than 6am, not that having a late night makes them sleep in normally but you can hope...

So for clothes (for the boys) something like:
4 pants (no weeing in pants allowed!)
2 socks
3 t shirts
1 jumper
2 jeans
2 shorts
1 waterproof jacket
Wellies
2 pj's (might take jogging bottoms for over pj's for if it's really cold?)
(1 fancy dress costume)

This sound reasonable?

For me, hopefully it'll be warm enough for a sun frock and flip flops during the day and on a night I'll stick some leggings on under my frock, with wellies and a big jacket. I'll do a weather check just before we go though and if it's forecast really bad I'll ditch the sunfrock idea.

How old are your kids vbus? My ds's are 5 and 3

sfxmum · 12/07/2011 23:24

Whatever you do make sure the summer sandals still fit Blush ended up buying new shoes onsite for dd. Her feet grew so fast last year
I take extra T-shirts dd and socks

I do hope the weather holds

sfxmum · 12/07/2011 23:26

Not extra dd but for dd although she did suggest we should adopt a sibling for her

luciadilammermoor · 13/07/2011 11:42

ID wristbands for children

Just came across these and thought they looked ideal for CB.

silverfrog · 13/07/2011 11:47

we have ID wristbands for the dds from here

dd1 (severe ASD) wears her permanently. dd2 wears her on all days out (legoland, the zoo etc)

dh and I also have wristbands or wear on days out, as they list how many children we should have with us, and info about dd1's autism etc. just in case somethign should happen to one us, then at least people would know to look for the girls, iyswim?

thatgirlsevil · 13/07/2011 13:03

I've just won 2 passes to Camp Bestival and have spent the best part of the morning looking around the internet for affordable (read: super cheap) travel from Manchester to Dorset/Wareham. It doesn't actually seem to exist and I only have about £60 'spare' until the end of the month and have not had a holiday in about 10 years :(

I don't think I'm going to be able to go and the tickets are non-transferrable.

Shit, absolutely gutted, bloody fecking balls and double shit.

Any suggestions/magic links to cheap travel are MOST welcome...

sfxmum · 13/07/2011 13:12

have you checked the green bus
I know sometimes people lift share

thatgirlsevil · 13/07/2011 13:35

Thanks sfxmum but I checked the Green Bus earlier and from what I can make out it goes from London Victoria to the Camp Bestival site and it's £78 and that's just outgoing...and we'd still have to get to London first.

I tried to post on the festibuddi lift share part of the Camp Bestival site and it came up with 1 result of another young girl requesting a lift...and then I tried to access it again and its not having any of it. Lift-sharing is a massive long shot anyway...it's 2 adults and 1 3YO so I doubt anybody will have that amount of space in their car and they probably can't be arsed with the hassle.

Trust me to win a prize I so desperately wanted but probably won't be able to use...Grin...if I didn't smile (and swear repeatedly to myself) I'd probably cry.

LieInsAreRarerThanTigers · 13/07/2011 14:03

Sorry I can't help you evil, we have space in our car but going from Winchester not Manchester! I am sure someone on here will come up with the goods, though.

sfxmum · 13/07/2011 14:27

sorry we are coming from London and no space really small car and loads of gear
have you contacted the organisers? who know they might help?

vbus · 13/07/2011 14:55

Sorry, can't help either as also coming from London but I do hope you find a way to get there after winning such a fab prize

Wristbands good idea, might get some

Curlybrunette - your list looks sound. My boys are 2& 5, the eldest is super excited and the toddler has no idea what is about to hit him Grin

sfxmum · 13/07/2011 14:59

was having a look at long range forecast to the 26th (I know I know) and it seems 3-4 days of rain leading up to the 28th
but warmHmm

thatgirlsevil · 13/07/2011 16:11

Thanks for all the positive thoughts and finger crossing (all digits and limbs crossed here as well)...I have now managed to enter the correct details on the lift-share site associated with the festival so we shall see if anything comes of that.

I'm going to give it a few days and then I will most likely end up contacting the organisers to offer the prize to somebody who will be able to make use of it. I don't really want to mither them about my dilemma as I would feel pretty damn ungrateful to be honest...it's my own bloody fault for being unable to afford the sky high train fares (cheapest available via thetrainline are £300 a pair and then they skyrocket to £700).

The National Express takes almost 10 hours to get there at shit times (I would miss most of Friday and Sunday) so that is completely impractical.

The Megabus goes to Southampton for a reasonable price (it would be £32 for 2 return tickets, the times are awkward but what the hey!) but then the tickets from Southampton to Wareham are 3 times the price for an hour long journey ShockShock...and then we would arrive when no public transport appears to be running...Gah.

I can't actually believe how extortionate train fares are nowadays...bleedin' Nora, if only Lady Luck had been shining on me during the effing Euromillions yesterday evening...haha.
