5 stone to lose starting TODAY...who wants to join!?

peaky297 · 11/01/2021 10:09

So I'd put on some weight before having my daughter and then added to that during and following pregnancy. My baby is one now so there's really no excuse anymore! 🤣
I've read around various diets etc and have decided that using my fitness pal to track calories and be mindful of my carb intake is probably the best way forward for me!

Please let me know a bit about what you're doing and how far you have to go!

Let's do this!

Hi @peaky297 I'll join!

I've never been a healthy weight since I was about 10 years old, since having my daughter (...three years ago) I'm very overweight and have struggled so much the last few years. Tried every crash diet in the book, and gone through a cycle of gaining and losing continuously for 3 years!

Finally settled on plain old calorie counting. I'm aiming for a 750 calorie deficit per day, for a 1.5lb loss per week. Stuck to it since new years day and I'm down from 15st 2lb to 14st 8lb.

I'll be happy when I'm at a healthy BMI, I'm quite tall so for me that's 11st 11lbs. However I'd love to be around the 10 stone mark. So I'll join you on the aim for 5 stone loss!

We can do it!

AlexaShutUp · 12/01/2021 21:33

I'm in! I lost 3 stone last year but slid back a little over Christmas. I now have just under 5 stone to lose in order to reach a healthy BMI but 5 stone would take me to my ideal weight, so I will join you on that journey.

First target is to get BMI under 35 by end of January.

Doing 16:8 and trying to eat sensibly without restricting myself so much that I fall off the wagon. I'm also doing couch to 5k.

peaky297 · 13/01/2021 08:05

Hi ladies! Thanks for joining me!

Its a hard slog, but im determined to do it this time! I am also calorie counting and trying to get the balance between cutting enough to lose weight and being able to stick with it in the long term.
Being around the 1500 cal a day mark seems to be doing the job for now!

OP posts:
RedPandaMama · 13/01/2021 09:49

How are you finding couch to 5k @AlexaShutUp? I've tried it a few times and never made it past the first week. I would love to get into running but I think even if I was thin I'm not made for it. My balance is terrible, I've got quite a big frame and huge boobs, I really need to invest in a good sports bra!

I quite like Joe Wicks workouts but I'm focusing on one thing at a time. This month it's nutrition and hitting the right calorie deficit. Once I've got that down, next month I'm going to aim for 10k steps a day. And then March I think I'll start properly working out.

@peaky297 I've been eating between 1400 and 2000 a day depending how active I've been. It's working for me so far. I've done so many starvation diets in the past, lost a load of weight quickly and then gained it all back immediately. I want this to be a real lifestyle change and I feel like that amount of calories is sustainable.

In this for the long haul! Halo

AlexaShutUp · 13/01/2021 10:11

@RedPandaMama, I'm only in the first week!! I got to around week 3 last year and then gave up, but I'm determined to do it this time. I do enjoy going out in the mornings and I think I could learn to love running if I was fit enough! So far, so good...I know that it will be challenging, but somehow, I will push on through. To be honest, it's a major achievement for me to even get out and run at all in public - I would have been so embarrassed to do this before last year, but now I just think what the hell, at least I'm trying!

Not really calorie counting as I find it too depressing, so I'm focusing on the 16:8 and eating as healthily as I can during my 8 hour window. Also trying to move as much as possible, not quite managing my 10k per day at the moment, I'm currently averaging around 8.5k, but it's a work in progress. The combination of 16:8, mindful eating and more movement is what worked for me last year, so I'm hoping that it will keep working this year too!

We can do this!!!

Rosiedo · 14/01/2021 14:47

May I join? I want to lose 3 stone. I’m going for a breast reduction in a couple of months (unless Covid cancels it) so I’m looking to lose as much as possible before that.

RedPandaMama · 14/01/2021 15:41

@Rosiedo hello!

I've always dreamt of a breast reduction! Unfortunately I'm at least 2 stone too heavy and even if I get down to a healthy weight, I don't have the money! What a great thing to aim for though. Huge good luck to you, sure you can smash it Smile

If we're talking about goals, I think my reason for wanting to lose weight is

  1. General health
  2. Fitness, more energy to play with my 3 year old
  3. I would love another child, one day not now, and at the moment I just feel too tired and with a BMI of 31, I wouldn't be able to have a low-risk home birth that I've always dreamed of.

I started on 1st Jan so my two week weigh in is tomorrow!

GirlsonFilm · 14/01/2021 15:48

Me!
I've stopped drinking as of 1/1/2021

clto2021 · 14/01/2021 16:00

Hi, I'm in a very similar position. I started at the end of December because I weighed myself and was 15 stone 1lb which is 5 stone overweight!

My youngest is now 4 so I have no excuse other than being bored and stress/comfort eating over the last year!!!

I am doing myfitnesspal too. I find that if I go on extreme diets I just fall off the wagon. By counting calories and tracking my food I am much more mindful of what I am eating and of portion sizes but I don't feel overly restricted.

I am also trying to walk more and do the odd YouTube fitness video.

I started on the 30th December and have lost 9.5lbs so far.

RedPandaMama · 15/01/2021 10:12

Hello, quick update!

Started on 1st Jan weighing 212lbs.
After the first week I weighed at 205.8lbs
This week I'm 203.8lbs

Total loss so far - 8.2lbs Smile

Happy with anything from 1-2lbs a week. Less and I'll get demotivated and anything more starts getting into crash dieting for me.
I struggled with an eating disorder for many years so I'm trying to do this sensibly!

How's everyone else getting on?
@peaky297
@AlexaShutUp
@rosiedo

And hello @GirlsonFilm and @clto2021

Good luck all!! We can do this.

AlexaShutUp · 22/01/2021 19:48

Sorry for not updating sooner. I have been struggling a bit with motivation as the weight isn't really shifting yet.

Have been sticking to my 16:8 plan, eating fewer calories overall and eating pretty healthily overall. I have also completed week 2 of Couch to 5k, and have been walking on non-run days, so I'm feeling a little discouraged and frustrated, but I'm just going to keep at it for the time being and hope that something shifts soon. I know from my experience last year that there were periods when nothing seemed to happen, and then suddenly the scales would move, so I'm hoping that the same thing will happen again. On the plus side, my resting heart rate has come right down, so my body is at least getting some benefit!

How is everyone else doing? Sounds like you got off to a flying start, @RedPandaMama and @clto2021, hope you've managed to keep up the good work. @Peaky297, @rosiedo and @GirlsonFilm, how are you getting on?

@Girlsonfilm, I stopped drinking in Feb 2020, haven't touched a drop since then. Not saying I'll never drink again, but want to get my weight down first.

clto2021 · 22/01/2021 20:27

Well done @AlexaShutUp sounds like you are making really good choices and staying committed. I have managed to keep on track with my eating and have now lost a stone which is great. Not quite as motivated with my exercise which I need to get on top of really! It's frustrating when everything slows down but keep going because it will gradually drop off and your hard work will pay off😊

refusetobeasheep · 22/01/2021 20:35

May I join? I lost 2 stone before Christmas and my BMI is now (just!) in the healthy range BUT i have 20cm to lose from my waist to hit that healthy 80cm for women, So back on the Fast 800 and doing HIIT / resistance training each day.

GirlsonFilm · 24/01/2021 08:58

Ok, my head's now in the right place to think about this.

I've got 5st+ to lose, I stopped drinking for 2021 and I'm starting the BSD for 8 weeks tomorrow.

I'm a serial failed dieter, so have decided to treat it as an experiment and focus all my efforts on the next eight weeks to "prove" it works.

I'm going to check in here each week and I'm feeling positive, but want to be held to account (oh I had a stressful week is not an excuse for three big bars of chocolate a dayGrin

My reasons for losing weight:
Health
Clothes - I've got a wardrobe full of clothes that are too small and any that don't fit at the end of 8 weeks are going in the bin
Exercise - I want to enjoy exercising with my children.

Good luck all, we can do this!

GirlsonFilm · 01/02/2021 09:48

First week done, 3kg off.

I'm doing 18/6 fasting, basically eating dinner, it's not that hard as I'm nhs so pretty busy at work so little time to eat anyway.

We've been told this week that our flights to Cyprus at Easter have been cancelled, tbh I doubt it would happen anyway so at least this has taken away the will it/won't it stress.

Week two hoping for 2kg this week, but we'll see.

AlexaShutUp · 01/02/2021 10:46

How is everyone doing?

I haven't lost tons of weight so far, only a few lbs. However, I'm in this for the long haul and I'm happy as long as the scales are moving in the right direction. I've also lost around an inch from my waist.

I have completed week 3 of C25k and start week 4 tomorrow. That has helped me a lot, actually, because I can already feel a distinct shift in my fitness levels.

I have also started doing the beginner 30 day shred today. I did it for a month last spring, and it nearly killed me Grin but I got through it then and will get through it again now! I have realised from doing c25k that it helps me to have some kind of structure for exercise so that I feel I have to stay on track.

Still doing 16:8 on weekdays, and trying to focus on eating plenty of fruit and veg, whole grains, lean protein etc.

How is everyone else getting on? It's so easy to lose momentum after the first couple of weeks, but we all need to stick to the plan and keep trying! We can do this!!

@peaky297, @RedPandaMama, @GirlsonFilm, @Rosiedo, @refusetobeasheep, @clto2021 - how are all of you doing? Please come back and let us know how you're getting on. There is no shame if anyone has fallen off track, we all know how easy that is! But we can still pick ourselves up and get back on again.

We can do this and we will do this.

clto2021 · 01/02/2021 11:14

Everything going well here 😊 I am now 1 stone 3lbs down and out of the 14s 👍 Could probably be a bit more dedicated to the exercise side of things but consistently tracking my food on myfitnesspal and sticking to it. I must admit I find it much easier to stay on track without the usual social events. It will be interesting to see if I can keep it up when life returns to normal and we can go out for meals or drinking with friends.

AlexaShutUp · 01/02/2021 11:33

Wow, @clto2021, that's amazing progress. Well done!!!

clto2021 · 01/02/2021 13:57

@AlexaShutUp thank you. To be honest once I'm in the mindset of losing weight I am usually quite successful. Historically what I am useless at is maintaining! I lost 8 stone in 2013/14 before having my first son and then put 5 stone back on during pregnancy. I then lost it again before putting it all back on whilst pregnant with ds2. Since then I have yo-yoed between 11 stone and 15 stone, constantly losing weight and then putting it back on again! I'm determined this time to change the way I think about food. Not to diet but to be very mindful of what goes into my body. Hopefully this time I can lose it and keep it off 🤞

Enwi · 01/02/2021 22:03

Hi ladies! Does anyone mind if I join?

I started on Friday calorie counting (Trying to stick to 1500 a day) and 16:8 fasting. I’ve found it surprisingly easy so far... but I feel like at any minute I’m going to fall off the band wagon again!

I’ve spent the last 4 years having back to back pregnancies, breastfeeding and just generally not looking after myself. I’m almost exactly 5 stone off my ‘ideal’ weight, and for the first time in a long time feel properly motivated.

Anyway, my weigh in day is Saturday so fingers crossed. I have in my head that I’d like to reach my target by AugustBlush achievable? I’m not sure but I’m determined to give it a good go!

AlexaShutUp · 01/02/2021 22:23

Welcome @Enwi, please do join...though we're a bit quiet at the moment! Good luck with reaching your target by August!

clto2021 · 01/02/2021 22:30

Welcome @Enwi 😊 I'm aiming for Aug too. My cousin is (hopefully) getting married in August and I don't want to be the fat family member! Sounds like you've made a good start x

boomboom1234 · 01/02/2021 22:43

Hello - I would love to join in! I lost 2 stone last year (September - December) doing 16/8 and low carb. Put quite a bit on over Christmas so have spent Jan losing 5lbs I gained. My BMI is currently 35 so my first goal is to lose another 7lbs by end of Feb. To be honest I don't actually think it's realistic for me to be in the healthy bmi range so at the moment my goal is to lose another 2 stone and get out of the obese range & just into overweight. I'm quite fed up of low carb and fasting as really feeling bored of it now but hoping if I persevere I can lose this two stone by May.

mrsbyers · 01/02/2021 22:45

I started last week and lost 9.5 lbs which is amazing , I’ve still got 3 stone to lose now though

Using my fitness pal to track calories but also missing breakfast most days to have a good fasting window. Plus if I want extra veggies I’m not counting those calories as I know on slimming world they aren’t restricted in the main

RedPandaMama · 02/02/2021 08:11

Hi again everyone. Sorry for being quiet recently!

I've been a bit annoyed as weight just isn't coming off easily. I'm eating in a 750 cal deficit every day so should be losing 1.5lbs a week.

I lost 6lbs my first week, 2lbs my second, then gained 2, then stayed the same.

It's the first time ever I haven't cheated at all. I've been eating so so well - I'm vegan so mostly wholefoods.

I've come into February with a fresh mindset. I'm almost certain the stagnation is due to me coming off the pill - I've been on the pill for 6 years (with a 1 year gap where I had my daughter) and it made my mental health spiral. I feel, mentally, 100x better without it. However my weight just seems to be sticking.

For February I'm continuing with the 750 cal deficit, and also doing a 100 a day squat challenge for Teenage Cancer Trust. I'm not going to weigh myself until the end of Feb so hopefully I'll be lighter.

Start weight 212lbs
Current weight (as of 1st Feb) 205.6lbs

Hope everyone is doing well x
