Good on her. Unfortunately, I think the tabloid take is still that she's a bit weird - but overall I think this article has to be seen as a good thing

what a nice article!

Although pmsl at "breastfeeding is the perfect crunch solution" I can't say that's the main thing on my mind as DS1 clambers into bed with me in the morning shouting for his milk...

treacletart · 05/03/2009 09:09

I think I even forgive her those yoghurt ads now!

Well good for her.
A very frank and straight article.
I like the bit about her dh being a grown man who can manage without her for a bit.
And in the Mirror too, as opposed to Guardian.

I think this is lovely - she is a real sweetheart, apparently, and it's so nice to hear someone say something straightforward, non-defensive and open about bf.

wastingmyeducation · 05/03/2009 09:31

I was reading that in her irritating voice in my head!

I think that's quite a positive article to be out there in the red-tops.

Penthesileia · 05/03/2009 09:36

That's actually one of the most impressive accounts of normal life with a baby I've ever seen come from a 'sleb'. Good on her for being so up-front about it all: being tired, the effect on her relationship, her looks, her expectations, how she parents. If more slebs could admit what she has, it could help normalise bf-ing for more people.

Gosh - I see her in a new light now.

Go Nell!

Penthesileia · 05/03/2009 09:37

Thanks for posting, treacletart!

weasle · 05/03/2009 09:39

what a lovely, very honest article.

i think it's great she talks about the ups and downs of being a mum, and of breastfeeding. very refreshing, compared to other slebs talking of their perfect, unrealistic life.

isn't she back to marathon running too? and she's very fast, big respect.

giveusabreak · 05/03/2009 09:41

Good for her. A nice normal woman with a very balanced view of the whole business. She manages to tackle the male jealousy angle, attacks from other mothers, the economics of bf and does it all without sounding pious.

Am slightly stunned to see this in a tabloid.

BouncingTurtle · 05/03/2009 09:41

Good for her!! I thought the article was excellent - and she hit an important point about the onus of "why are you still bfing?" onto the questioner to prove why we shouldn't!

Tatties · 05/03/2009 09:49

Oh that's such a positive article. Very realistic account and makes it all sound as normal as it is!

northender · 05/03/2009 09:56

What a brilliant article. Good on her!

AitchTwoOh · 05/03/2009 10:04

clever girl.

philmassive · 05/03/2009 10:17

Hooray for Nell McAndrew. So nice to hear someone normal and non-judgey talking about this.

JoandMax · 05/03/2009 10:34

That's a brilliant article, not just for the bfing but the realisitic view of what it's actually like to be a mum! So many celebs talk about how amazing their children are, and go all starry eyed - of course we all love our children more than anything but it is bloody hard work and frustrating at time so it's very refreshing to see someone publicly admit that!!!

Nezzi · 05/03/2009 13:08

Lovely article, refreshingly honest for a sleb.

Meglet · 05/03/2009 13:13

that's lovely. It's a relief to hear a celeb admitting it's not easy.

GetOrfMoiLand · 05/03/2009 13:17

Blimey, who would have thought such a well-balanced and mature outlook would have come from Nell mcAndrew

Very good, down to earth article, from the Mirror for heavens sake.

Galava · 05/03/2009 13:18

I've always liked Nell.

A good old yorkshire lass.

HolidaysQueen · 05/03/2009 13:19

Just spotted a version of this in the Daily Mail and have put in a positive comment before the idiots have their say - although I'm guessing they won't publish mine as it was too positive about bf I'm glad I got to read the original article. Good on Nell

Stretch · 05/03/2009 13:23

She sounds exactly like a lot of the mums on here who bf past a year. "I didn?t plan to still be feeding Devon now but it?s ended up being the best thing for us both."

She sounds lovely. Now to just stop doing them annoying yoghurt ads!!

HolidaysQueen · 05/03/2009 13:23

Oh my god, the Mail actually published my comment

Stretch · 05/03/2009 13:29

the daily mail comments!!
