Very honest article. Good for her.

freddysteddy · 05/03/2009 18:51

Can't get into the Mirror article.

I'm a bit 'meh' about extended breastfeeding myself, but it's nice that a celeb has given you all a voice.

nickytwotimes · 05/03/2009 18:55

A lovely article.

PuzzleRocks · 05/03/2009 19:04

I liked Nell for helping me get back in shape. Now I bloody adore her.

Heartmum2Jamie · 05/03/2009 19:15

Fabulous article and nice to FINALLY hear from a celeb that shares most of my views on parenthood. I breastfeed ds2 until he was 3. None of my boys have every been left overnight. I am now feeding my ds3 (4 months) and I will be really upset if he wants to self wean before he's 2, lol!

Good on you Nell!!

mawbroon · 05/03/2009 21:51

I was pleased to see this too. Nice.

Is her husband Paul Hardcastle as in n n n n n n n nineteen? I never knew that!!

Gunnerbean · 05/03/2009 22:06

I can't believe this qualifies as "news".

Alert the media, woman breastfeeds a baby .

smurfgirl · 05/03/2009 22:25

My DH sent me this article day, he was defending her to his office and thought it was interesting. I am really proud of him because he is 24 and we have no kids and I never knew he was so sensible about breastfeeding!

She comes across well in this article.

moondog · 05/03/2009 22:26

Smurf, how funny.

N-n-n-n-nineteen???

He must surely be about f-f-f-f-fifty ei-ei-ei-ei-ght by now eh??

smurfgirl · 05/03/2009 22:30

we are TTC so maybe he is getting all paternal on me! He works in IT and its the land of naked women on calendars and world of warcraft so I think breastfeeding is alien to those boys.

moondog · 05/03/2009 22:32

Bodes well SG!
Best of luck with the er.....shagging.

ABetaDad · 05/03/2009 22:56

Just wanted to clear one thing up.

Men do not get jealous of the baby.

HerBeatitudeLittleBella · 05/03/2009 23:02

Gosh. I have suddenly become a fan of a woman for whom I heretofore felt only indifferent neutrality. I love her.

Tinker · 06/03/2009 00:22

Oh, good article. I've always liked her since seeing that programme about the 'boy whose skin fell off'

hunkermunker · 06/03/2009 00:32

Some do, ABetaDad. Glad to hear you didn't, but don't make sweeping generalisations, there's a love

Nell - fab

Hooray, well done Nell and the Mirror

chipmonkey · 06/03/2009 00:58

I don't think normal mature men get jealous, though.

belgo · 06/03/2009 07:47

Daily Mail have the usual crap a fab response to this, comparing breastmilk with fast food and a soda fountain

oopsagain · 06/03/2009 07:52

in the mail online they called her unrepentant about it

belgo · 06/03/2009 08:09

the 'against' mother declares:

'When my children became old enough to ask for my breasts, I decided enough was enough. '

I find that a rather arbitrary way of deciding when to stop breastfeeding - some children will be able to ask to breastfeed by the age of one, other children (such as my dd1), will be far older before they are able to ask for something they want.

And it's also rather sad this viewpoint that just because a child wants it, and the mother is enjoying it, it must be in some way bad.

PuzzleRocks · 06/03/2009 08:14

From the Mail's "opposing" mother bit..

"Tanith CAREY is author of How To Be An Amazing Mother"

How is that Tanith? By using your choices a a stick to beat others? Bubblehead.

PuzzleRocks · 06/03/2009 08:15

as a

belgo · 06/03/2009 08:24

I never even noticed that Tanith Carey was a author. Maybe we should get her on here to be flayed alive so she can discuss her viewpoint with us.

I find it odd this perception of breastfeeding women as a 'milking machine'. I have never felt like a milking machine (except maybe when I pump!) I just feel that breastfeeding is all part and parcel of being a mother.

Actuall I think Nell McAndrew would make a good mumsnet guest.

belgo · 06/03/2009 08:27

and I do know that's it's an author, I just made a typo.
