whydoesithavetobeme · 30/01/2008 23:35

Well if you want to be sure its done correctly then do what it says on the pack.

whydoesithavetobeme · 30/01/2008 23:37

We (well, I) don't have the instructions here - you know more than most posters will if you have a packet of it there.

babyjjbaby · 30/01/2008 23:41

The new night time milk is described as being thicker so it's sits in your babies tummy and makes them feel full up for longer - in theory making them sleep for longer as they are less likely to wake up hungry (in theory). I guess it's like giving your baby a nice MacDonalds thick shake instead of ordinary milk.

moondog · 30/01/2008 23:56

Fuck me,what will they come up with next??

Jenkeywoo · 30/01/2008 23:59

My baby won't sleep - I know I'll put something really really dense in her little tummy that takes all night to digest. I wonder what it is they thicken it with? probably rice or plastecine or something. It's like the 'acceptable' version of that whole baby rice in the bottle at bedtime thing.

moondog · 31/01/2008 00:01

They'll invent a gag soother next to 'gently muffle night time sounds'.

Because yuo're worth it.

babyjjbaby · 31/01/2008 00:04

Jenkeywoo thanks may well try it how do u make up ur bottles please

Hmm
Twinklemegan · 31/01/2008 00:12

So you'll get woken up anyway when the poor mite gets terrible heartburn and indigestion.

moondog · 31/01/2008 00:12

Hmm Hmm Hmm

Flibbertyjibbet · 31/01/2008 00:29

I'm on a bridge and think there is something hiding under it.

I am sitting on my Tripp Trapp chair.

nappyaddict · 31/01/2008 01:39

all formula milk these days will tell you to put the powder in the water when you need it - the nighttime one is no different in saying that.

babyjjbaby · 31/01/2008 08:37

does any1 else make teh bottles up diferantly

OP posts:
LadyVictorianSqualor · 31/01/2008 08:53

babyjjbaby, milk is only meant to be made the way it says on the tin because oterhwise it can cause a severe illness which can result in fatality.
I don't know much more about it tbh, but I do know there has been quite a few threads on it.

With the nighttime milk, I wouldnt bother, as you're already giving baby solids you will probably just end up overfeeding it and giving it stomach ache, I'd stick to what you're doing already.

HTH

LadyVictorianSqualor · 31/01/2008 08:54

Flibberty, she is a real poster, she is a 16yr old girl.

SoupDragon · 31/01/2008 09:20

"does any1 else make teh bottles up diferantly"

You make the bottles up as it says on the pack. The instructions are there for a reason. IIRC, the recommendations changed fairly recently and now strongly advise against making the bottles up in advance due to the risk of illness.

"well it is just a hassle"

Babies aren't meant to be convenient.

SoupDragon · 31/01/2008 09:22

Do not follow what Jenkeywoo says, she was being sarcastic.

Lulumama · 31/01/2008 09:25

babyjjbaby

you should make up the bottles according to the instructions on the tin, not according to how your mum or anyone else did it

feeds should be made with freshly boiled water, cooled for 30 minutes to kill any bacteria in the formula. your HV should have up to date guidelines and a leaflet to give you if you are struggling. there should also be a helpline number on the tin.

as for night time milk.... it is simply a heavier milk that keeps your baby full for longer. it is not IMO necessary or a good idea. if your baby is waking in the night to feed and is taking a good milk feed, then they need to wake for that feed.

i would stick to regular normal formula

PuppyMonkey · 31/01/2008 09:33

Babyjj, like people have said on the thread, the advice has recently changed and u are now not supposed to make the water up in advance but stick to the instructions on the pack, boiling water and letting it cool for 1/2 an hour, then adding powder. It IS a faff when u have screaming baby in the middle of the night, I know. You could have a few of those ready made cartons to hand for then though..?

Have you got a HV you could talk to about it? Also is there anyone to help you with lo?

babyjjbaby · 31/01/2008 10:00
