Charlotte Church - lovely comment about breastfeeding

In OK this week (sorry, I couldn't resist the cover photo of their gorgeous baby).

"I can't imagine not breastfeeding. I'm not going to preach but it's better for the baby and the mother and it's such a bonding thing as well. I also love the fact that she's so dependant on me. I think if you can and don't it's ridiculous"

I think this is a fantastic quote which deserves much more publicity than the the stupid things Jordan said.

It warmed the cockles of my heart as well. She sounds like she had a great birth too, the one she wanted, at home in a pool. Must be my hormones, gone all weepy. Hope I get the same in Jan.

I think she comes across consitantly as an all round nice girl..

Nice comment, sounds like she's really enjoyed the whole pregnancy/bith/motherhood thing.. I'm pleased for her.

Oh yes, Myleen seemed lovely as well. It would be great to have more mum's in the public eye so positive & normal about it. Do you think OK would ever print a picture in one of those spreads of the mum breastfeeding as a normal thing to do? You never have to see any breast flesh, so hard to think it would offend. I think that would be fab & do wonders to help improve the profile of breasfeeding.

Yes both these young women have turned into lovely role models. I am old enough to be Charl's mother and have watched her go through her crazy teen years (which I don't think were any worse than my own, she probably just had more money than I did, so went for champers instead of scrumpy).
How can we turn our teenaged girls from the likes of Amy and Kate towards young women like these?

Well, it's better than hearing about Jordan her 'ginge' (her words not mine) baby and the sex life she has with Peter.

Good for Charlotte and Myleen re the b/feeding.

Piffle · 04/10/2007 14:42

tis a great comment considering the MAHoOSIVE aptimil formula ad on the other page in the OK spread

Very nice - and especially putting it
"if you can and don't ..." shows tact towards those who for whatever reason can't.

Ahhh motherhood is turning her back into an angel instead of a foul mouthed whatever-she-was.

hunkermunker · 04/10/2007 14:44

I kind of agree re celebs being role models, but like it or not, they will be - and FAR better that they're like Charlotte Church than Jordan, imo. And NOT just because of the bf/ff thing. I read this in OK! yesterday (in WHSmiths - didn't buy it ) and thought it was lovely too.

And luckily it's the bit that's spelt correctly

hunkermunker · 04/10/2007 14:51

There's a namechange I don't want But I'd better nab it in case someone else does [grr]

I just thought it was nice to see somebody on a par with Jordan saying such nice things about being a mum and bf. OK! made a big thing of how she was having make-up put on for the first time since Ruby had been born too (not sure it was silver eyeliner though - I should've paid more attention - did you ever get one, btw?).

Vikkin · 04/10/2007 15:00

Celeb worship goes back yonks. However, we didn't always have the pictures and narrative to back up the rumours. Why the heck did I go through the early 80s wearing nothing but black and white and pretending to be a Mod.
It's not a crime to have a lot of boyfriends through your younger years, and do a lot of partying and drinking, then come out the other side, settle down and be responsible.
Isn't that what the further and higher education systems were set up for?
I don't have a detailed bio of Charl to hand, so put me right if there is proof her transgressions went further than this.

stleger · 04/10/2007 15:11

Does the baby look like her, or orange like Gavin?
