Charlotte Church - lovely comment about breastfeeding

In OK this week (sorry, I couldn't resist the cover photo of their gorgeous baby).

"I can't imagine not breastfeeding. I'm not going to preach but it's better for the baby and the mother and it's such a bonding thing as well. I also love the fact that she's so dependant on me. I think if you can and don't it's ridiculous"

I think this is a fantastic quote which deserves much more publicity than the the stupid things Jordan said.

It's lovely she said it, and that she's so into the pg/birth/motherhood thing, but it doesn't make her opinion any more important than anyone else's. Not sure it should get any extra publicity - if a celeb says something you agree with and you laud them from the rooftops, what happens when they then say something really stupid....which lots of them do imo

hanaflower dont you know that in mumsnet law she couldve been mainlining herion throughout her pregnancy, but as long as she advocates breastfeeding for the bf mafia then she's a national hero

what a load of b*llocks

controversial mosschops!!

mosschops30 · 04/10/2007 15:47

me ...never

oliveoil · 04/10/2007 15:48

I read an interview with the woman that was on Coronation Street - Griffith or something - and it was quite refreshing as they were saying how knackering it was haveing a newborn

makes a change from the cooing 'oh my life is now complete' bollocks you usually read

don't mind CC but Gavin looks like he 'bats for the other side' imo

hunkermunker · 04/10/2007 15:48

Controversial? Not really. Rude for the sake of it - yep.

tiredemma · 04/10/2007 15:51

'bats for the otherside' pmsl

lemonaid · 04/10/2007 15:55

Also IIRC the reason it was first rumoured she was pregnant was that she'd given up smoking and drinking. She managed a few weeks of claiming that it was because of the effect it was having on her voice before going public with the pregnancy news.

pooka · 04/10/2007 15:55

Would rather hear about her than Jordan, any day.

oliveoil · 04/10/2007 15:56

yes

and at least it is a positive message for a change

oh thank the lord above, it is home time

hunkermunker · 04/10/2007 15:58

There was stuff in the OK! article about how she'd stopped smoking and drinking and didn't mind because of the baby.

But no need to pay any mind to that, people who want to put the boot into bf support.

hippopowell · 04/10/2007 16:10

I know I'm rising to the bait, but why does a positive statement about breastfeeding have to be interpreted as a message from the bf mafia!!!!
I long for the day when it is not even considered that a women is, oh wow, shock, breastfeeding. Why does it have to be only an activity that hairy, lentil weavers do?
CC talking about it like this can only help but get there.

tiktok · 04/10/2007 16:14

Maybe I left my sense of humour on the bus, but I thought we stopped finding amusement in words like 'breastfeeding mafia' years ago?

Skyler · 04/10/2007 16:17

Wishful thinking tiktok.

hippopowell · 04/10/2007 16:18

Just for the record I take no pleasure in using the term, just refering to a previous post.

hunkermunker · 04/10/2007 16:48

Don't think we started, Tiktok.

tiktok · 04/10/2007 16:56

You're right hunker

I now have an image of us all sitting stonily at our computer screens, twitching at the mention of nazis, police, mafia and so on.

Look....it isn't big to use these words, it isn't clever, it isn't funny, and it makes people who give up their time and energies to help and support feel pissed off.

So stop, FGS.

NAB3 · 04/10/2007 16:56

Hurrah!!!!

lazyemma · 04/10/2007 17:52

I'm happy that Charlotte Church is happy: good for her. It is however a shame that, like 90% of other mothers, she can't seem to manage that apparently complex feat of being enthusiastic about her own parenting choices without being snide about other people's.

hunkermunker · 04/10/2007 17:54

I don't think she was being snide. I think she genuinely couldn't think of a reason why, if you could bf, you wouldn't. That's all.
