Anyone else made to feel like a paedophile for breastfeeding past 6 months!

getting miffed at peoples attitudes to bf past the 'required' 6 months. ds is only 7 mths ffs! makes me feel they think i'm a freak! grrrrrrr

I read that breastfeeding past one year of age resulted in less obesity in children, never mind six months.

As I've always been overweight myself and it also runs in dp's family, I was hoping to breastfeed until at least one in the hopes of giving him the best start (obviously after that I'm not going to start feeding him maccy D's and turkey twizzlers, either)

I felt like this sometimes and found La Leche League meetings very helpful for finding comradeship

after a while you kind of get over the embarrassment or whatever and just get on with it

it REALLY is none of anyone else's business

DS is 6 months and I have no plans to stop BF any time soon.

I don't give a toss what people think.

But I guess that's easy to say when you have full support from your family and live in an area where BF is the norm (not that I've seen many xbf-ers about). Although people here are FAR too polite to say anything even if they did have a problem.

I don't really talk about it (DS is two and a quarter) -- the only people who ask "are you still breastfeeding" are the pro-extended bfers and I get lots of nice supportive comments from them. DH has mentioned it to a couple of colleagues and got some fairly looks, though, I think.

Was so delighted when someone I was meeting professionally put her two year old to the breast as we talked the other day.

Did it until past two myself.no comments ever made (but would have told them to fuck off had anyone dares.)

The 4 - 6 month bit was the hardest as everyone seemed to be expecting me to have dd weaned and onto 3 meals a day. Once I'd gone past 6 months I think people just accepted that I had no intention of stopping.

I did however stop at 1yr as I was pg and was feeling so ill. The most suprising reaction to me stopping was dh. Whilst supporting my decisions entirely, he would have prefered me to carry on.

if you did a psychological profile on rapists, paedophiles and other perverts, i would bet the vast majority were not bf or if bf not for very long.
