moondog · 20/01/2007 19:14

LadyTophamHatt · 20/01/2007 19:14

is breast milk meant to smell so awful??

OP posts:
LadyTophamHatt · 20/01/2007 19:37

1.5 ounces this time, took about 35-40 mins.

Quite pleased with that, it's soooooo much easier than manually doing it.

Well done lth!! That is sooooo brilliant

This is such an ace thread

kiskidee · 20/01/2007 19:52

what do you mean by 'awful'.

yellowrose · 20/01/2007 20:04

no it is supposed to taste and smell very sweet - talking as someone who has tasted her own milk - curiosity and all that you understand

are you talking about "fresh" bm or stuff you have expressed and put in the fridge ?

LadyTophamHatt · 20/01/2007 20:23

well, it's really the breast shell thingies that smell awful...not so much the actual milk.

MerlinsBeard · 20/01/2007 20:29

This is such a nice thread and i am so pleased for you too LTH, got no advice except to keep enjoying

yellowrose · 20/01/2007 21:23

oh ok, i just thought you may have had ebm in the fridge that may have gone off (i put a bottle in the fridge door once and it went off within hours - make sure you put any ebm towards the back of the shelves where it is coolest)

don't worry if it smells on your equipment although make sure you wash all your equipment in very hot soapy water - milk drops go off really really quickly !

yellowrose · 20/01/2007 21:27

oh another tip - don't EVER shake ebm - it is made of live cells that may die if shaken

i used to shake the bottle to mix the milk (foremilk and hindmilk separate in the bottle and it looks weird !) - but read that this kills the cells

moondog · 20/01/2007 21:28

Eh??
Explain the science of the no sjhaking thing to me

yellowrose · 20/01/2007 21:30

oh god moondog - i read i think on kellymom about not shaking as it may kill the live cells - sorry will look up to give you scientific back up for my tip

moondog · 20/01/2007 21:30

Well I'm open to all you say Yeller.....

yellowrose · 20/01/2007 21:32

yellowrose · 20/01/2007 21:32

it is actually a link on kellymom.com

moondog · 20/01/2007 21:42

Blimey!
That really is news to me!!!

kiskidee · 20/01/2007 21:56

i remember mears saying once, 'don't shake it, you're not trying to make butter'.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 21/01/2007 00:49

ibuprofen is fine to take whilst b/feeding. I took it lots when i had mastitis and thrush.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 21/01/2007 00:51

and am sniggering at moondog being taught to suck eggs - rather successfully

Good one yellow!

Ceolas · 21/01/2007 08:06
