so you have to do the opposite of what bond wants done to his martinis: -

STIRRED NOT SHAKEN is best !

LadyTophamHatt · 21/01/2007 10:06

expressed 1.5 before bed and and ounce in the night when he woke....and i'm being milked again now!!

MW has just been and done the awful heel prick thingy and weighed him. 8lb 13oz nowso i'm very pleased

Brill LTH.
Every drop does him the world of good.
Have you told the MW what you are doing btw?

LadyTophamHatt · 21/01/2007 17:29

Yes, MW came today and I told her. Actually I proudly showed her the bottle in the fridge

She said if he's a hungry baby, which he seems to be so far to not worry about latching him on yet. Yes i can try, and certainly should but he'll end up annoyed that the milk isn't coming fast enough like from the teat. I said i'm quite happy expressing it for him so she said thats cool.
She mentioned trying to latch him on in the bath so I'll try that in a few days when the milk is coming a bit better.

How long will it take to get it coming quicker? atm i can only get about 1- 1.5 (maybe 2, if i'm lucky) ounces per milking.
I imagine it takes a while to get ounces out each time.

Oh forgot to say he weighs 8lb 13oz now so he's regained his birth weight + 2oz in 5 days.

nutcracker · 21/01/2007 17:41

Sorry LTH but I have to LOL, you didn't forget to tell us his weight, you said it earlier when you posted that the midwife had been.

Can't blame it on your pregnancy brain now

nutcracker · 21/01/2007 17:41

Great he is putting on weight though and great about the expressing too

expatinscotland · 21/01/2007 17:45

How old is your baby, LTH?

I started to get LOADS when DD2 was about 7-10 days old.

It varies from woman to woman, too.

Some women aren't able to express at all, but bf just fine.

I had a stonking supply w/DD2.

Even after she was full up off the breast, I'd be flowing like a tap.

LadyTophamHatt · 21/01/2007 17:45

bloody hell...did i??

oh dear...he's only 5 days old and already 10 times more forgetful.....is there any hope for me???

OP posts:
LadyTophamHatt · 21/01/2007 17:47

btw..did i tell you he's 8lb 13 now??

the more you do it, the more you'll get.

and when the counsellor comes on Tuesday, you may be able to start getting him latched.

the best part about getting them latched is not having to express anymore.

Debbsyandson · 21/01/2007 17:55

well done lth electric certainly are the way to go.Which one did you buy?
my ds is 5 weeks old and it does take a couple of weeks (so my hv said for your milk to come through properly as in 5 to 6 ounces in one pumping session.Stick at it your doing so well,i nearly gave up breast and expressing a number of times but so glad i stuck with it and the mre i did it the more i got,and when hv tells you about the weight gain you do feel so proud.Congratulations btw.Apologies btw for lack of punctuation i have ds in my arms.

shonaspurtle · 21/01/2007 17:57

Definitely takes time to build up. You'll probably find you get more at some times than others as well.

Make sure you don't pump for too long just for the sake of getting a little bit more - can make you v sore! [ouchie!]

I was advised to pump for about as long as a feed, around 20 minutes at the time, but to do 5 mins, then rest for 5 mins etc.

Congratulations on your boy btw!

shonaspurtle · 21/01/2007 17:58

Cnagratulations too on the great weight gain! It makes the grind a bit more worthwhile doesn't it

LadyTophamHatt · 21/01/2007 18:01

ATM i'm doing about 12-15 minutes on each side.

Got just over 2.5 ounces fron 2 milking sessions today.

shonaspurtle · 21/01/2007 18:06

That sounds about right to me. I dont express all the time but I don't think I was getting a full bottle at once until a good few weeks in (and tbh was kind of pushing it then - hence warning about soreness...).

Debbsyandson · 21/01/2007 18:07

yes that sounds really good lth

ItsMeMellowma · 21/01/2007 18:07

Congratulations on the weight gain.

SoupDragon · 21/01/2007 18:38

You're doing brilliantly

Has he regained his birthweight yet?

colditz · 21/01/2007 18:40

This thread is so so heartwarming.

tamum · 21/01/2007 18:45

Well done LTH, this is such a lovely thread

Incidentally, re. the Kellymom link, although it may well be advisable not to shake breast milk, shaking most certainly doesn't cause proteins to fall apart. We'd all be in big trouble trampolining if that was the case

LadyTophamHatt · 21/01/2007 19:16

he has soupy, plus another 2oz too.

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 21/01/2007 19:38

Oh, so when I trampoline that's my pelvic floor rather than my proteins falling apart??

floraflora · 21/01/2007 20:19

Lovely thread, brings both warm rosy glow and guffaws of laughter, well done LTH.
I've had a battle with expressing when my LO went to childminders at 4 months (3 months ago now) - took me ages to get as much as an ounce out. Now still have to express with baby on the other side to get about 3 ounces out. SO... I reckon 1 - 1.5 ounces at this stage is FAB.
Good old you and good luck with the LLL lady.
BTW I def. need the dask top milking parlour - excellent idea!!!

LadyTophamHatt · 21/01/2007 22:48

Woooo-hoooo
My best yet.

just under 2 ounces in one visit to the milking parlor. milking parlour=The PC.

Pump is too noisy to to sit watch telly)
