I think you have to cool the fresh milk before you can mix it with the refridgerated stuff.

hunkermunker · 19/01/2007 17:13

You can keep EBM in the fridge up to eight days (in the main body of the fridge, not the door).

You can add new stuff to stuff you already have in the fridge, but take into account that it's as old as the first milk you expressed, and do chill it before you mix it.

LadyTophamHatt · 19/01/2007 17:14

Theres a local LLL woman who lives near by, the MW gave me her number while I was PG and wrote it on my notes.

I lost the bit of paper though...Grrrrrrr

If and when she calls back I'll get it again and be straight the phone.

LTH, you can find LLL local contacts here

curiosity · 19/01/2007 17:23

Can I just intrude for a moment......

This thread is one of the sweetest I've seen.

Your joy is indeed tangible.

LadyTophamHatt · 19/01/2007 17:25

Coelas....thansk for that. My local LLL lady is coming on Tuesday but has just given me lots of useful bits of info to get on with in the mean time!!

OP posts:
Ceolas · 19/01/2007 17:27

Oh that's great news. Go for it. You can do it!

SoupDragon · 19/01/2007 17:49

It keeps for 8 days in the fridge? Really??? Blimey. How about in the frezer?

yellowrose · 19/01/2007 17:56

soup - thanks alot for lady's background details - i must have missed the previous posts !

lady - i am so happy for you and your 4th baby - congrats. on the birth and i am sure all the lovely ladies here will support you all the way

yellowrose · 19/01/2007 17:58

lady - that's good news about the LLL leader coming to see you - hopefully she will help you even more and perhaps you can attend a local meeting - i used to mine for moral support and loved it

LadyTophamHatt · 19/01/2007 18:04

She said the next meeting wasn't for 3 weeks so siad she's come to me instead.

She said to express every 2hours to increase the supply. Now, i'm not going to set my alarm at 2 hr intervals over night but shall I express some during the night when the young man wakes? or wait until the morning and to try again?

Do you know??...I bloody love mumsnet, wherre could I get such fab help a support elsewhere??

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 19/01/2007 18:06

Try at night. There's something that makes night feeding (and expressing) stimulate more milk than in the daytime.

I wouldn't beat yourself up about it if you can't or are too tired to bother though.

CODNoMore · 19/01/2007 18:07

hey lth
is dh out yet

SoupDragon · 19/01/2007 18:08

After the excitement of today, you're not going to be devastated if it doesn't work out are you?

LadyTophamHatt · 19/01/2007 18:18

He is out Cod....thank god. driving me insane with his bloody tidying and faffing.

I would be abit gutted Soupy, but now that I'm managed to express some I will get more.
I really, honestly, hand on heart wouldn't mind expressing all the time to give him it. The same goes for mix feeding, if I can't get enough to feed him exclusivly on it than he'll get both.

I assume as my norks get used to it they'll give up their bounty easier so it won't take as long.

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 19/01/2007 18:20

It does get easier, yes

SoupDragon · 19/01/2007 18:21

(BTW, good attitude. Determined but realistic )

SoupDragon · 19/01/2007 18:22

Erm... by realistic I mean recognising that you may end up mix feeding rather than setting your heart on exclusive bf-ing til he's 12!

ScoobyDooooo · 19/01/2007 18:31

Wow well done Lth you sound so happy this is a lovely thread.

I could not bf with my ds & thought i would not be able to do it with dd but dd really toke to it & i managed to do it for a while which was fab in fact i was gutted when i gave it up.

If you think little man will latch on why not give it a try carry on expressing then your milk supply should become more regular

foxinsocks · 19/01/2007 18:38

well done you

I found thinking gushing thoughts about the new baby made the milk come out much more when I was expressing - think yummy scrummy cuddly ds4 and I'm sure it will help the milk let down!

LadyTophamHatt · 19/01/2007 19:09

sorry ....next question.

Do i need to sterilse the pump again before i express again?

he's just had the little bit i got earlier so i'll try again once the 3 big ds's are in bed....but i'm not sure if i need to nuke it in the microwave agaoin?

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 19/01/2007 19:15

I used to put the breast pump and milk container still put together in the fridge and use it from there. Bit cold on my breast but worked ok!

SoupDragon · 19/01/2007 19:16

meaning that i didn't wash it up or sterilise it because it had been refridgerated.

LadyTophamHatt · 19/01/2007 19:31

ah, right...i'll do that next time then.

just found ds3 inspecting it with his ketchup stained hands inspecting it so i thinkit at least need a wash now....
