by Elly Omondi Odhiambo

Noah Donohoe was found lifeless in a storm drain on June 27, 2020. A post-mortem report declared that he died as a result of drowning. Well, because the job of the police is to look at every possible and impossible, there has been a growing number of Belfast residents wanting to know if there was a racial motivation in the death of Noah Donohoe. People want to know the truth. The more the family of Noah and public are cautioned against making so-called unsubstantiated statements, the more they hunger for the truth. The PSNI is bungling this sad case

This 14 year old set off on his bike one Sunday, two years ago now, to meet a friend. They were working on a Duke of Edinburgh award.

Six days later, his naked body was found a kilometre inside an unlocked storm drain, in a part of Belfast he did not frequent.

Apparently, the police announced that there was no foul play involved, on the very day that his body was found. Even before an autopsy took place. There still has been no Inquest.

The police version of events is that: Noah fell from his bike, sustained a head injury, removed his clothes in confusion, ditched his bike, wandered off naked into a part of the city he would not usually go into, and somehow ended up drowned a kilometre inside an ( unusually) unlocked storm drain.

I understand that Noah was of African/Irish heritage. Police have never considered a racial element in his death and disappearance. Another schoolboy a fortnight earlier, had been attacked and chased by a group of youths whilst cycling. He escaped from them only after running three miles to safety. Police did not investigate any links between the incidents.

His mother's demand for answers from the Police Service Northern Ireland appears to have been blocked by them. There is a petition requesting the release of these files.

Please, if you are able, can you support his mum Fiona, and sign the petition on MN?

This has been referred to as "the PSNI's Stephen Lawrence scandal". Let us pray and hope that it is not.

From Niamh Donohoe:
'We are reluctantly preparing ourselves for court (an ordeal in itself). No one will ever understand the toll these days take, on Fiona especially. At the moment we both feel battered and exhausted, we already feel defeated in our fight for a jury and fear the coroner has made his decision to refuse Noah's inquest this opportunity. We will not spend a minute longer than we have to in courts allowing Noah's life & memory to be decimated. We will give you your stage momentarily and then we are done listening to you. Over 2yrs we have given our whole lives to Noah's fight & have got nowhere. Fighting everyone to listen to us & to help.

On Fiona's birthday yesterday instead of celebrating we both cried down the phone because we feel so helpless against this corrupt system at times. However, one thing we both agree, my sister and I won't ever stop fighting for Noah💙 & our babies. Noah's death must be the catalyst for change; no family can ever be allowed to suffer like this again & a child's life can never be sacrificed at the altar of the peace process. Our beautiful boy's life mattered.

Noah's Army, we need you now more than ever...Be Noah's voice...shout his name.

I hope at court the right decision regarding a jury is delivered. I promise we will take to the streets in our thousands again & again until we get what Noah deserves & justice. We will bring Belfast to a standstill repeatedly until the truth comes out.

Sitting back waiting on this farcical legal process to evolve has got us nowhere.
We are Noah's voice; we will make noise. Noah will be heard, and the truth will come out.'

'WE HAVE BEEN ALLOWED A JURY FOR NOAH'S INQUEST. We are so grateful to Noah's legal team & the coroner. We went in defeated & have left grateful beyond words. Such an unexpected victory for Noah. Emotional, exhausted & feeling able to fight on knowing the right decision was made.'

Noah's full inquest with a jury will be held next year, although another short preliminary hearing is scheduled for December.

Today is Noah's 17th Birthday. 💙

Please join us in remembering, celebrating and giving thanks for bright, beautiful and kind Noah today. If you can, do a good deed in honour of Noah, no matter what it is or how small.

The Noah Donohoe Foundation is run by The Community Foundation of Northern Ireland, carrying on Noah's beautiful legacy and keeping his spirit alive by helping other children from all communities across Northern Ireland. For example, 500 breakfasts for children have just been funded to help struggling families amid the cost-of-living crisis. In honour of Noah's birthday this year, individual grants totalling £16,000 are being awarded to schools and to music, sport and community groups for children and young people, following cross-community nominations. If you would like to support the work of The Noah Donohoe Foundation, you can do so via Just Giving.

If you are on Twitter and other social media, in future please use the hashtags #JusticeForNoahDonohoe #TheNoahDonohoeFoundation and #NoahsArmy.

Thank you. 💙

Thinking of Noah, his mummy Fiona, his auntie Niamh and all his family and friends today. 💙

In answer to some queries, I'm not allowed to link to it, but to ensure any donations get to the right place, if you add /campaign/noahdonohoefoundation after justgiving then you should find it ok.

"The Need for an Independent Investigation into Noah's Death

The death of Noah Donohoe, an extraordinary and beloved 14-year-old Belfast child in the summer of 2020 has shocked all. It is a tragedy beyond measure for his family, his mother, and the wider community. Three years from his disappearance and the discovery of his body six days later, we are no wiser about the circumstances around his death. Moreover, there is considerable concern over the quality of the PSNI investigation and widespread community distrust over the process moving forward.

This is the arena where journalists and investigative reporters perform their key function. It is the role of the press to hold those in power to account and to strive for answers to difficult questions and uncomfortable truths, without fear or favour.

We Answered the Call
I am Donal MacIntyre, an investigative journalist with 30 years of experience in news, documentary and investigations. Within a few months of Noah’s passing, his family and mother reached out to me and my team of investigators to bring our expertise to the case. We have worked for over two years with renowned and celebrated former murder detectives, eminent psychologists, medical examiners, and digital forensic and CCTV experts in cold cases, unsolved murders and long-haul investigations.

A Team of World-Leading Experts
We have engaged leading and eminent investigators including a renowned Medical Examiner, one of the world’s leading criminologists and profilers, Professor David Wilson, Cyber and Forensic specialist, Andy Crocker, formerly of the UK’s Serious Crime Unit, former DI Clive Driscoll, who solved the Stephen Lawrence case, as well as our own journalistic team of awarding winning researchers and investigators.

Recent Revelations
Now, as recent, crucial developments shed new light on the case, we ask for your help to continue our investigation and complete a documentary film that will bring the truth of this case to as wide an audience as possible.

We Need Your Help
Many have given their time for free over the last two years, but this is a serious business. We need to place ‘feet’ on the ground for weeks at a time, to commission expert reports, and hire expert witnesses to examine critical findings. It is an expensive process, and we cannot do it without your help. Our promise is that we will spend every penny on the investigation, and any funds surplus to our needs will be donated to children’s charities in Northern Ireland including ‘The Noah Donohoe Foundation’.

This call for crowdfunding was suggested by Noah's mother, Fiona Donohoe who was keen for us to continue our work and to seek your support to complete our documentary investigation.

We are committed heart and soul to discovering the truth about Noah’s tragic death, lifting every stone, and going the extra mile for Noah and his family. We do not know yet what happened to Noah, but we know much more than we did. We may never uncover the complete story, but we all agree that this beautiful spirit and unbelievably talented young boy deserves a proper and transparent investigation. We hope that with your support we can deliver exactly that to an Irish, UK and international audience in due course. We thank you in advance for your support. "

The crowdfunding campaign has so for raised nearly half of the 150k target in just a few days. If you would like to help or just to know more, please search on Crowdfunder for The Independent Noah Donohoe Investigation. Thank you.

An update:

"Halfway There - Another Huge Milestone - Thank You!
It is so uplifting so see so many people give so much in such trying times for a cause well worth supporting. This is not just about investigating what happened to Noah but also investigating the PSNI investigation and the processes in play including the role of the Coroner in the search for the truth. We can only rely upon your support to tell the story objectively and independently. You understand the value of journalism. Keep sharing and keep celebrating your generosity - Thank you so much!
Donal"

£77,191 has been raised so far on Crowdfunder for The Independent Noah Donohoe Investigation Fund - just over half of the amount needed. If anyone can share the appeal it would be very welcome and any amount is appreciated, however small. There are also a number of rewards for donations. For example, all donations of £10 or over will be rewarded with online access to the online premiere of the documentary investigation, 'The Search for Truth - The Noah Donohoe Story'.

Keep an Eye out for Fresh Developments in the Case - Heads Up!
Dear all,
As our shadow production team and very special donors, we wanted to give you heads up that there may be some newsworthy developments over the next 48 hours. Please keep an eye out on twitter and other social media platforms for updates. You continue to make our investigation possible - we are close to £100,000 - just around £7k off - that is astounding - nearly at two thirds of our first target of £150,000 required to finish the project. Please keep spreading the news of the cause if you can.
As ever, we are tremendously grateful. To all of you, you should know that our investigators approach this case with a fully open mind - as all cold case specialists should do, and that is without pre-conceptions or favourite narratives - we will investigate and we'll be guided by the evidence.
Until our next update, thanks again and keep an eye out for fresh news on the case over the next couple of days.
Best
Donal

Donal MacIntyre 3rd July 2023
Thank You Again!
We have passed £95k and it is simply a staggering return from your commitment and desire to fund the film of our independent investigation. We will continue to post updates and general commentary on Noah over the fundraising period so keep an eye out. We are, however, mindful that there is an inquest due in the next six months and, with that in mind, we have to be cautious about what we can report and disclose on social media, as is the case with all the newspapers and other media outlets. So, if you see our future posts are a little light on some details, you can presume that we are legally restricted from what we can publish - within certain guidelines.
What we will never stop publishing about is the need for a thorough investigation and, after the inquest, holding those institutions to account if it transpires they failed Noah. We must continue to celebrate the uniqueness of Noah who truly represented the best of us - an intrinsically generous, smart and empathetic teenager who deserved the best in life and in death.
Thanks so much for continuing to spread the news of our crowdfunding appeal as our campaign grows, and sincere gratitude for making our investigation possible.
Donal
