by Elly Omondi Odhiambo

Noah Donohoe was found lifeless in a storm drain on June 27, 2020. A post-mortem report declared that he died as a result of drowning. Well, because the job of the police is to look at every possible and impossible, there has been a growing number of Belfast residents wanting to know if there was a racial motivation in the death of Noah Donohoe. People want to know the truth. The more the family of Noah and public are cautioned against making so-called unsubstantiated statements, the more they hunger for the truth. The PSNI is bungling this sad case

This 14 year old set off on his bike one Sunday, two years ago now, to meet a friend. They were working on a Duke of Edinburgh award.

Six days later, his naked body was found a kilometre inside an unlocked storm drain, in a part of Belfast he did not frequent.

Apparently, the police announced that there was no foul play involved, on the very day that his body was found. Even before an autopsy took place. There still has been no Inquest.

The police version of events is that: Noah fell from his bike, sustained a head injury, removed his clothes in confusion, ditched his bike, wandered off naked into a part of the city he would not usually go into, and somehow ended up drowned a kilometre inside an ( unusually) unlocked storm drain.

I understand that Noah was of African/Irish heritage. Police have never considered a racial element in his death and disappearance. Another schoolboy a fortnight earlier, had been attacked and chased by a group of youths whilst cycling. He escaped from them only after running three miles to safety. Police did not investigate any links between the incidents.

His mother's demand for answers from the Police Service Northern Ireland appears to have been blocked by them. There is a petition requesting the release of these files.

Please, if you are able, can you support his mum Fiona, and sign the petition on MN?

This has been referred to as "the PSNI's Stephen Lawrence scandal". Let us pray and hope that it is not.

@TheRealMrsMac

Just to add - if anyone experiences the same issue with confirming a signature, click on 'Help' at the bottom of the petition page, then click on 'Contact Support' at the top of the next page to report to Change and ensure your signature counts. Fingers crossed it's all ok now though. Thanks again.
x post It seems to be a new issue today for a few people. Hope this helps, @PrincessFluffyPants

Signed and donated. Have often thought of little Noah and his mum. Her dignity and perseverance is heartrending.

TheBlackDarner · 06/04/2022 11:30

The interview with Noah's mum as they retrace his movements really affected me. Especially near the storm drain. I can't believe he got in there a kilometre in, without marks to show for it on his naked body. And then drowned. In an area he did not frequent.

This whole thing really does not make sense. There is more to this than the police's so called explanation. What is being covered up here?

Doreen Lawrence gave her support to this campaign way back in 2020

Yet still no answers from PSNI.

Lndnmummy · 07/04/2022 12:36

Thank you everyone who is showing their support to Noah. His mum needs answers. We need to keep bumping the threads to ensure they remain in active.

@TimeAfterTime1

Ohhh yes *@TheRealMrsMac*, my determination kicked in 💪🏿. A message came up about needing permission to look at the unlocked site and something about 18+. I logged on via my phone to yahoo and used the link. I sign petitions from time to time and cannot remember an access issue like that. I'm a long-term lurker and have a different username/account. Just want to say Thank You for what you're all doing here. This is so important! The Daily Mail were great regarding Stephen Lawrence, I hope that they can bring this petition and case to public prominence and questions are answered correctly.
Sorry@TimeAfterTime1. I missed the part of your post about the Daily Mail. I do recall their campaign, it was good journalism. Credit where its due on that, well done to them, and credit also to the DCI . (Driscoll?) He was the one, after all those years, who finally found the forensic evidence that led to the convictions. Despite all of the dreadful pressures on him, from corrupt Met officers.

PSNI could do well to have his due diligence, the Met also, which appears to have remained a corrupt shambles.

blackandgreen · 09/04/2022 20:38

Thanks for that @TheRealMrsMac
Will bookmark accordingly, it's still helpful if any of the Noah campaigners could keep adding any updates on here.

Signed and shared. It's disgraceful that PSNI are being allowed to get away with this.

TheRealMrsMac · 10/04/2022 11:39

Thank you, OP. This is a more recent article, written this month, by Elly Omondi Odhiambo:

VivienneDelacroix · 10/04/2022 11:49

I follow Fiona on Twitter, it is utterly disgusting the way she has been treated and the way Noah doesn't seem to be important to the PSNI. It is so clear that foul play was involved in his death and that he did not accidentally die - the "official" story is such a massive work of fiction.

It's just heartbreaking that Fiona is still in the dark about what happened to her lovely boy.

TheRealMrsMac · 10/04/2022 11:54

This is another recent article by the same writer, considering race relations and the context in NI and touching on the murder of Stephen Lawrence in relation to Noah's death:

belfastmedia.com/waiting-on-one-brave-psni-officer-to-do-right-by-noah

This is part of the article:
'Noah Donohoe
The Police Service of Northern Ireland are not doing anyone a favour by sitting on the shoddy investigations they did two years ago. The police should own up that they have been seriously unprofessional in how they have unfairly dismissed what majority of people feel about young Noah's death. How long do we have to wait for just one brave officer to address the public about the deliberate incompetency of the police? Some institutions in Northern Ireland hide under a roof called ignorance. It is common when black people have been attacked. There are cases of victims going to the police, compensation agency and the all-white panel with a medical doctor struggle to determine the extent of the complaint. They can't see it. Many have complained, these are not hypotheticals. But for these kinds of institutions like the PSNI to sit on young Noah Donohoe's life like this is beyond belief and many now agree it is Stephen Lawrence yet again.

Elly Omondi Odhiambo is a writer based in Belfast. [email protected]'

[quote TheRealMrsMac]Thank you, OP. This is a more recent article, written this month, by Elly Omondi Odhiambo:

Thanks for the updated article. Really comprehensive. Elly is such a caring journalist.. He's been around Belfast over twenty years I think. He's originally from Kenya. Fair play to him for speaking up for Noah.

(I think he is standing for MLA? Good for him.)

I can hardly believe that a police inspector thought that a naked 14 year old boy with dark skin wandering around an area of Belfast he had never been to before, was doing it for a joke. And not a person stepped in? And then Noah found his way a kilometre into an unlocked storm drain, only to be found drowned six days later? But no head injury, no contusions on his body of the kind you would expect to see on a naked person crawling in a drain?

And the drain was relocked at some point before he was found?

Over 300,000 people are not buying that story.

Petition to release the files upthread, please sign and support the release of PSNI files.

How depressing. It is no surprise to me if Noah's colour was a factor in the lack of investigation. The poor child.

ancientgran · 10/04/2022 14:01

What a tragic case. I got a shock when I got to the photos as his school photo looks very like my youngest son (also half Irish) and it obviously intensified how I felt.

I will go and find the petition.

ancientgran · 10/04/2022 14:06

Just to let you know I signed the petition and then opened my emails, not expecting to have got the confirm signature e mail yet and there it was. Hopefully any glitch has gone and it is now working.

TooBigForMyBoots · 10/04/2022 14:13

Fiona Donohoe's tweet last month. How painful it must be for her to know what she does. The children at Noah's school are terrified.Sad

TurningUpMyStereotype · 10/04/2022 14:18

Signed. The police version of events make no sense at all. I hope his family get the answers they need.

Noah. ❤️

TheRealMrsMac · 10/04/2022 14:18

As an ally, I respect this area as being primarily a safe space for black mumsnetters. I would like to respond to the OP's and other posters' requests for updates or information however, and I hope that is ok with everyone.

These are two recent tweets from Noah's mummy, Fiona Donohoe, for those without access to Twitter or who do not follow her. STRONG TRIGGER WARNING
