Global Anti- Blackness, China now Ukraine, it too much

It's soul destroying to watch other black people suffer in the middle of a pandemic or war where it has nothing to do with race. The videos from China was horrible. Now we are seeing the same from Ukraine. Why? We are people too. The chances of this war spread to the UK is not far off and that scares me.
We all see colour and it's annoying when people claim they don't. Evidence from around the world shows hate. I hope the black resident of Ukraine and black students trying to leave find away out. I joke they survive too. They should have the same right as everyone else who wants to leave.

By the way, don't come at me that this is not the time. It is and I am tired. We are humans too.

A Black British woman says she is facing “aggression” from locals in Ukraine as she struggles to leave since the Russian invasion of the eastern European country began on Thursday February 24. Mum-of-one Korrine Sky, 26, says she was lunged at by a man who circled her vehicle and attempted to stop her from making it to the Romanian border.

The medical student said that locals were not allowing them to pass and were being “aggressive” while she attempted to drive to safety. The 26-year-old has been trying to assist other Black students who are fleeing the country and have been blocked from crossing the border, by sharing resources on how to escape.

For those asking for reputable links to donations, I can't find the one I was following. one of the PayPal accounts being used apparently maxed out. I have no way of verifying some of the links. I will keep and eye out for one coming from an actual journalist or reputable accounts.

Hearing about Romania has warmed my heart and makes love one of my closed friends even more.

Those asking about China, lots of black people got thrown out of thier apartments and blocked from accessing services such as restaurants because China started blaming Africans for taking Covid to China. Lots of black people were left to sleep outdoors with no where to turn to. Mcdonalds had to make a statement telling their restaurants can't discriminate. Notes were being left on doors saying no entry for black people. This all happened in the first year of covid around the time we were all going into lockdown. It was OK for China to claim covid came from Africans but but places like facebook had a ban on speculation on whether China had anything todo with it.

Mat Frei, of Channel 4 News and LBC, did a report around midday on LBC.

When asked about it he said it was true. Both some of the Polish police/border guards and some of the Ukrainian police were refusing to allow black people especially men to leave.

He spoke to a female 4th year medical student from Nigeria. She said that she and other black people in Ukraine are use to the racism they face daily. She said that she was allowed to go on the bus to the Polish border after some begging, but they continued to refuse the Nigerian male students right until the last minute. She also has seen black men go to join the fighting.

So much racism going on there. It is outrageous, to know that once again, black and brown people are being treated so poorly.

I am PoC, it makes me so sad and angry. No matter what situations -white- people are in there's always time and space for racism isn't there? It actually makes me have less sympathy for the Ukrainians, to be honest.

My 2 sisters are volunteering on Polish border helping with animals left behind on Ukrainian border.

Great so even stray dogs are being helped over people of colour.

OP- it’s horrific and so depressing, I pray this nightmare ends soon

I've read this a few times today. Does anybody know why the black men are joining the Ukraine army to join the fighting? Were they born in Ukraine?

@NurseButtercup there are indeed Ukranian people who are black who are fighting.

The students trying to get out are not black Ukrainians but other nationalities.

There is an mp in their parliament who is also black and has been speaking up against the invasion .

Following in case anyone knows of any charities we can support who are helping at the borders with this specific issue.

We have been told to look out for war propaganda but sadly I can imagine this is real. Pictures of a Mum with her baby, and elderly POC waiting at the border in freezing conditions. Sad Let’s hope that decent people prevail, whether they are working for NGOs , governments or just individuals who are doing their best to help POC over the border to safety.

I’ve heard a first hand account of a Nigerian student and others being assisted to cross the border into Romania and then home via Ghana. Posting in case it helps anyone.

Oh boy I've been voicenoting my friend all day about this. It's exhausting and so incredibly frustrating that (some) white people cannot see it. We also talked about Charlene White and Janet Street Porter on Loose Women and JSP denying that its racism just the fact that "Poland is too full". WTFE. they are not too full for the Europeans that they are helping over the border.

Absolutely heartbreaking that even when bombs and missiles are raining down they still look at us like we are something on their shoe and are more than happy to see us blown to smitherines 🤬🤬🤬

@anonymoooose I know and I've met Polish people with black and/or African spouses. They refuse to bring their mixed ethnicity kids up in Poland even though a lot of them would now have a better standard of living than in the UK.

@PenStation - look at Naija.wifey on instagram. She’s polish but doing so much to help coordinate efforts for the African students trying to get out. Info on all sorts from transport, borders crossings, embassy info etc
I think she also has ways to donate specifically for these students.

But they wouldn’t be refugees, they have staff from the embassies waiting to fly them out.
The Nigerian government have been putting on repatriation flights, and I’m sure other governments have been.
They are young people that are desperate to get home.

These people have countries to go to, they are trying to get out of Ukraine, they are not intent in seeking asylum in neighbouring countries.
