Global Anti- Blackness, China now Ukraine, it too much

debbrianna · 27/02/2022 11:34

It's soul destroying to watch other black people suffer in the middle of a pandemic or war where it has nothing to do with race. The videos from China was horrible. Now we are seeing the same from Ukraine. Why? We are people too. The chances of this war spread to the UK is not far off and that scares me.
We all see colour and it's annoying when people claim they don't. Evidence from around the world shows hate. I hope the black resident of Ukraine and black students trying to leave find away out. I joke they survive too. They should have the same right as everyone else who wants to leave.

By the way, don't come at me that this is not the time. It is and I am tired. We are humans too.

Light is being shone on this now, hopefully things will improve.

I did think maybe they were turned back because they were men and men were being told to stay and fight. I didn't want to believe it was just plain old fashioned racism, really, its difficult to see it could be anything else though.

What's happening in China? Is it the concentration camps?

EchoNan · 28/02/2022 21:22

@GreenLunchBox

I would just ignore the squatter going forward. How infuriating Angry
Best thing to do as hasn't read the links posted. Quick on the "aggressive black women" trope though. For someone claiming racism doesn't exist Hmm
NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 28/02/2022 21:24

There were women and children being turned back too.
Some Nigerian’a have already joined the international legion.
But you can’t force people to stay and fight

Ishouldreallybeonanisland · 28/02/2022 21:28

I haven't read the full thread but just wanted to say that this IS the time. It is always the time for equality. In what circumstances does one human life mean more than another and if anything during war this is even more pertinent.

EchoNan · 28/02/2022 21:53

My uncle is a pastor and he and his network are working tirelessly to help them get out. It's a terrible situation not helped when people care more about Ukrainian policies being seen to be racist instead of the human impact of the racist policies

@wannabeamummysobad
Your uncle and his networks efforts seem to be starting to be effective now, along with other support. What awful times these are.Sad

roarfeckingroarr · 28/02/2022 21:55

What happened in China?

Porcupineintherough · 28/02/2022 22:19

@debbrianna you mentioned donations. Are there particular organisations we can support that are assisting?

EchoNan · 28/02/2022 22:22

China?

Where to begin? The Uyghurs?

Also this.

However, I believe the OP may be referring, most recently, to the racial abuse of athletes at the Winter Olympics. Videos circulating on SM of crowds chanting. I'm not re posting them here, I'm sure you'll understand.

BIWI · 28/02/2022 22:23

I thought this was some kind of sick joke when I read this.

I'm so sorry that it's true Sad. There's no justification for this at all.

BIWI · 28/02/2022 22:24

When I say I read 'this' - I didn't mean on here/this thread - I meant on wider media.
@belljar89 - have a look at cowriesking or naija.wifey on instagram. Both documenting how difficult it is for black Africans to get out of Ukraine. They’re doing everything they can to get information and support to people.
Last night they were advising to go down to the Hungarian border. I can’t imagine how frightening it must be there at the moment, but then to make it to the border and be kept from crossing.
It is happening, there are videos and first hand accounts, I’m not sure why you don’t want ti believe it’s true.
Thank you for your kind recommendations

I had a look at everything and it confirms everything what I am saying.
I quote as an example from nail.wifey " I just arrive (Poland) not long and the country is so welcoming, nothing like 15days visa, nothing like refugee, (...) there's free food, clothes, transportation and hotel free"

belljar89 · 01/03/2022 01:14

@GreenLunchBox

You are very aggressive.

My 2 sisters are volunteering on Polish border helping with animals left behind on Ukrainian border.

There is no such a thing as racism towards ANYONE
Poland is letting everyone in even without valid passport!

Where to start with this post.

"You're aggressive" tick

"My sister/brother/ uncle/dog blah blah blah....." tick

"There is no such thing as racism" tick

yep- my home town is 70km from the border so I know what is going on and it is frustrating when I see posts like this one.

Thousands of people wait in the queue, thousands of people travel for 3/4days to the border.
Poland behaves absolutely amazing now, and I am proud of all people there providing the amount of help as they do.

Some will always ruin everything by saying things like you do - you just don't realise it does apply to everyone over there - and they are getting help in Poland

DoorWasAJar · 01/03/2022 02:22

It’s awful. They should try to enter Romania, Romania is accepting refugees and they’re less racist than Poland and Hungary. When I lived in Botswana I met doctors who had studied medicine in Romania and went to practice back home in Africa. The border Ukraine to Romania is long and they can cross in many places, doesn’t have to be the border control part if Ukraine us blocking them.

You don't have to start. We already know. They know exactly why they posted so vile.

Can I join this thread, as a British PoC. I was on the other thread, and spoke up about black and asian people, including a little girl, being pushed away from the border, and that thread was constantly derailed by denial by 2 or 3 posters, consistently creating straw man arguments. Although there was lots of good information and constructive discussion on there, mumnet deleted that thread, and now I feel as if we have been shut-up, for daring to mention the additional burdens that PoC in Ukraine (including Ukrainian PoC) are experiencing right now, in this life or death situation.
I am really upset that we were muted, as so many posters couldn’t bear to hear that racism actually mattered. So many casual racist statements on there, accepting racism as ok, and asking is to focus on the (white) majority and stop mentioning PoC.

So can I be on here, I feel very upset and angry and I don’t know where else I go. Mumsnet for asians, so as not to disturb the sensibilities of the caring posters who only want to think about the troubles of the UKR people, just not the dark skinned ones???

Jobseeker19 · 01/03/2022 07:54

It shows when push comes to shove, who they believe should get preferential treatment. What would happen in the UK when people are put under stress and fear?

How are people able to take large animals on trains when they are rejecting humans?

A bigger deal needs to be made of this.

Motherofgorgons · 01/03/2022 08:21

I am also POC. I won't say much here as am not black , but just want to read because am sick to death of the main board denying racism in refugee policy.

This. I said similar in my earlier post, about MN deleting the other thread. There was the usual line about checking things out behind the scenes, blah blah. I felt it was an important thread, it should not have been deleted. MN are too quick to do this.
EchoNan · 01/03/2022 09:26

I saw what was said on the main board before that thread was deleted. Shame on those posters for shouting you all down. The simplistic approach of sticking up for the "goodies" with no questions asked, is unsurprising really. As if an honest discussion on MN is going to put Ukraine into Russian hands. For goodness sake!

@DoorWasAjar I think that quite a number have got away through Romania. I saw it reported on BBC Pidgin yesterday. You were right.

EchoNan · 01/03/2022 09:31

@debbrianna thank you for this very important thread.

Jobseeker19 · 01/03/2022 09:44

Its even on the Daily mail website at the near top

Global Anti- Blackness, China now Ukraine, it too much
emuloc · 01/03/2022 09:50

Shame on the posters who are so determined to deny this is happening. I can only hope that now this outrageous treatment is being widely reported, that the people will get the help that they need, to get out of Ukraine.

EchoNan · 01/03/2022 10:40

@Jobseeker19 Well then, it must be true if it's in a newspaper that the Russian Bot MN Screamers read. Ho hum. Wink
