Black "don't" crack!

I know. I know this doesn't apply to every Black person but it's true (in my experience) that a lot of Black people tend to look stunning, gorgeous and naturally look younger than their age.

I'd have posted pictures of regular Black people but I can't for privacy reasons so I'm posting Black celebrities with public image gotten from Google. Whether there's been work done or not, there's no denying the natural youthfulness and beauty still popping.

Taraji P. Henson - 51

I'll post more. Photos will be between 2020 and now. Mostly 2021. I don't care if it's seen as vain, I'm just celebrating Black beauty. If I don't, who will? Please feel free to add if you want to.

For anyone who is interested, there is a ton of academic literature on this very topic: from a clinical and cosmetology perspective. Black people have more melanin, which protects against the cumulative effect of sun damage. Plus typically, black skin is thicker and thus will retain a fuller, more youthful appearance for longer.

A couple of years ago, my two colleagues (both scientists) came across the phrase ‘black don’t crack’ and were taking the mick. I had to put them in their place, using the evidence from science.

I have seen more pointless and wank posts than this one but I'd struggle to name them.

FFS.

How about calling them Allycot? It seems appropriate.
lotussnow · 31/10/2021 16:44

I concur @BridesmaidHelp Those in the motherland under the hot sun. Still naturally age-defying. Fresh, home-grown food doesn't hurt either.

Melanin is great for slowing down ageing and to protect against the sun when in hotter climates but we can’t get carried away with ‘blessed genes’ it has to be acknowledged that we have more susceptibility to vitamin D deficiencies when in colder climates due to our melanin needing more sun to develop it in our bodies. So yes, our genes are great for sunnier countries but let’s be aware our skin/bodies don’t do as well in countries with less sun.

DeeCeeCherry · 31/10/2021 22:48

but we can’t get carried away with ‘blessed genes’*

Why should celebrating Black Womens' beauty mean we are 'carried away?'

Its ok to just let go and just 'be' sometimes, with no downer. There are more than enough people with a Jonah mentality out there who cant stand the celebration of Black Women as it is.

Ive been taking vitamins for decades both in UK and back home, a big fan of our natural herbs and remedies too, and I know many Black Women, including myself, who know all about Vitamin D necessity - and the very obvious difference between living in a cold vs hot climate.

I dont see Black Women wilting all around me in UK so I should think we'll continue to manage to deal with UK weather and skincare etc, as we do.

Looking good wherever we may be.
