When a family member (white) tried to order egg on toast in Turtle Bay as the food "looked disgusting."

I like hard food! 😳😂 although there's always lots left after I've finished eating everything so perhaps not as much as I think. I pick at it when it's in the fridge though Grin

AMemeByAnyOtherName · 18/09/2020 11:41

Also... there's plantAin and plantin, but does anybody else get the rage when they hear "PlarntAin"

It's PLAN. Not PLARN!! It makes me think of a man with a monocle saying that he's got a few plarntains in his gar-aarge from the locals he met on his cruise to the ca-ribbean 😂

It's CARIB-BEAN!!

I need a cup of tea.

Oh my

I remember I was on a bus once. A middle aged white man came and sat beside me.
For some reason he started telling me that he'd just been to the Carib-eanS. When I started talking about my culture he then told me I'm pronouncing it wrong. 😒

I stay well out of the plantain row, but pre Covid, my mates BBQ (African and Caribbean) descended into chaos when someone asked for it.

From origins, how to pick, cook, pronounce and pass on the legacy to the next generation was discussed.

Great ice breaker at any party 🤣🤣🤣

I know this guy.

He's half Nigerian and half Ghanaian. His families are always beefing. Apparently they can't have dinner together 😂

😂🤣😂🤣

If I'd read that a few days ago I would have been shocked, but after everything now I'm thinking 'yeah, that makes sense' Grin

Phoenix21 · 18/09/2020 12:25

@PatricksRumive images of a man sitting at the table picking. Up a fork and stating ‘who cooks the best jollof’. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

That caused also caused chaos at the BBQ, but I could join in with that one Grin

AMemeByAnyOtherName · 18/09/2020 12:26

Have any people on this thread seen Famalam on BBC iPlayer? It's a comedy sketch show with black actors and I think it's amazing (sometimes a bit on the nose). They often do African family sketches and then every day examples of stereotypes, sometimes they do Caribbean pisstakes as well.

AMemeByAnyOtherName · 18/09/2020 12:46

I can easily get carried away, I'm going to link one more clip here and then back away from YouTube Grin

EchoCardioGran · 18/09/2020 12:59

Hadn't seen it before AMeme but will be watching it now. Grin

creativecringe · 18/09/2020 14:07

The different ways of saying Caribbean. The english way or the American way. I grew with the american way. I had to get used to saying it differently. Carib- bean or
ca -rib-bean. Like coriander.

creativecringe · 18/09/2020 14:11

The best plantain is roasted like cassava on a BBQ.😁 followed by deep fried.

AMemeByAnyOtherName · 18/09/2020 14:49

@creativecringe that's the way I say it! I think, spelling sounds is difficult 😅. The emphasis on the 'rib' part is what makes me kmt. Carib, as in the Caribs, not ca-rib. Like a skeleton 💀

Phoenix21 · 18/09/2020 15:25

I discovered famalam after the Drillagram went viral - hilarious!

We started watching Real McCoy returns too 😁

JayDot500 · 18/09/2020 16:05

DH (Nigerian) always had a love/hate relationship with one white guy he worked with (this guy went to Oxford and acted like posh royalty). So, this guy invited DH to his backyard BBQ. Well imagine the shock on DH's face when the guy pulled out a mountain of plantain to roast Grin. He apparently grew up in Venezuela, so of course, he knows plantain very well. It's all love/love since then... because of plantain 🤣

The real McCoy! I love Auntie and Hyacinth!!! I sent the restaurant one to my sister in law because since Covid that's exactly how she's been Grin
JayDot500 · 18/09/2020 16:12

Who isn't like this now? Grin (the video I've mentioned above)

AMemeByAnyOtherName · 18/09/2020 16:38

You see @JayDot500 , plantain can solve world conflict! 😂

I had no idea the drillogram went viral, but I must have watched that video about twenty times already so I'm not surprised, it's hilarious!

creativecringe · 18/09/2020 17:38

Omg @Jaydot that YouTube clip is do relatable now during corona virus 🤭

TeamGhanaJollof · 18/09/2020 18:17

So re the plantin v plantain debate, as someone of Ghanaian heritage I grew up pronouncing it plantain. DH is Jamaican heritage and after 20 odd years, he’s won, it’s plantin in our house. I feel like I’m disgracing my ancestors every time I say it. What we can all agree on is kelewale is the BEST way to have them. Fact.

Only people I hear saying cornrows often also call them say corn rolls...that makes me KMT.

Dastardlythefriendlymutt · 18/09/2020 19:10

Lol I know a guy like this. He admitted Ghanaian jollof was the best and it almost ended in death.

Love Famalam the vegan skit 🤣🤣🤣

PonDeReplay · 27/09/2020 10:27

Came on to share the Famalam love. Look it up on bbc iPlayer - I’m a big fan!

Blulorry · 29/09/2020 21:44

Yes this. And they will not be told otherwise!
