Just wanted to say I'm thinking about you Hollyoaks I really hope that Grace is recovering well. I cannot imagine what you are going through. Glad that you have lots of support around you. Take care xx

booboomonster · 29/05/2010 23:04

Just a quickie on mobile to say Hollyoaks - what an awful experience. Hope Grace is now on the mend. Sounds like you've all been really brave. Thinking of you.

Schipo - congratulations! Well done, sounds like you did great.

Cupcake / raquel and the other overdues - totally with you about using the MLU... It's my main worry. Cupcake, if you have had a show and some cramps it does sound positive though... Good luck!

Off to bed now just in case something happens - feel I should get as much sleep as poss just in case...

Quick message via phone while feeding Molls. hollyoaks - hope all goes well now for you and wee Grace, sounds so scary
overdue babies - come on, time to make an appearance already

I'm ok - my DM and DF were here again yesterday and I'm tired of visitors but Molly is brilliant - she's back to birthweight and feeding well. DD1 is still being really challenging and I'm quite anxious anyway and just want a bit of peace to recover really. Still onwards and upwards

MoggMum · 30/05/2010 08:24

40+14 today

schipo great birth story and interesting to hear what MW thought baby would have come on its own in a couple of days. Has given me some hope but the more time goes on the more doubtful I get that this baby will ever arrive

Off to hospital this afternoon to have check up and yet another sweep!

homebirthmummy4 · 30/05/2010 09:16

40 + 10 today. still no sign. looks more likely it will be june than may . as each day passes i get more scared about the labour and delivery and that this baby will be huge and i just want to wake up one morning and baby will be next to me. stupid really as ive already done it 3 times

sweetkitty · 30/05/2010 10:09

Very quick message from me, Jacob asleep and I am supposed to be dressing DD3.

Schipo - many congratulations

moggmum/homebirthmummy - you have my sympathies, who else is left now?

Rough night last night although Jacob only woke once at 3am ish he wanted to get up, tried feeding him/rocking him/dummy etc and he wouldn't settle, he eventually went back over an hour later until 8am so shouldn't complain really. He's just at that wanting to sleep/be held/fed on me stage all the time. I am wishing for the day when you can make him smile and he will sit and gum on a toy for 10 mins.

Will try and get back later if I can, am going to the garden centre in a minute as I ave not planted anything this year and time is running out, garden is a right state too. DP cuts the grass but I do the flowers etc, girls have a party later and that's about us.

pigleychez · 30/05/2010 11:51

Schipo- Congratulations Hope your home soon. Fab name.

Hollyoaks- How scary but glad to hear that shes doing well now. Congratulations

Cupcake- I felt exactly the same about being induced with DD1, but it doesnt matter once your holding your newborn
Jigsaws is what i did to keep my mind off the waiting too

Carikube- Theres always something to worry about isnt there!

Tomlin- Glad you had a nice day.

Molly- Glad Molly is doing well.

SK- We too had a restless night. Lucy decided she would stay awake after her feed for the next 3 hours!! Thankfully managed to get a good block from 4-7.30 to make up for it!

Lucy is such a little piggy! She drinks sooo much and downs the expressed milk (about 4ozs) in minutes! Im struggling to keep up with her and when I manage to latch her on she just doesnt seem satisfied by me. DD1 was such a poor feeder that this is just the complete opposite.

Fingers crossed for the forthcoming sweeps etc do there stuff and produce some more beautiful babies
I feel your pain you poor overdue mummies ((Hugs))

RacquelWelsh · 30/05/2010 12:07

Hi everyone..

Hope there's some progress for Moggmum, Cupcake, booboo, Alimouse and Homebirthmummy today.

Am 40 + 7 today. Just had my sweep, hopefully that will kick things off. Midwife said cervix is softening, head engaged alright so looks promising. If nothing happens, got another sweep booked for Tuesday and a hospital appointment for Friday 4th June at 8am to be induced if nothing by then.

The midwife made the appointment on the understanding that I can cancel it at any time but the hospital are really busy at the moment and she thought it best to book me in than leave it another week. So. Now I wait some more. The trouble with me going over 42 weeks is that the MLU hand me over to the hospital nearly 1.5 hours away a week today. They will heavily pressure me to being monitored every day in hospital which means over 2.5 hours driving every day and I don't think I can bear that. Just trying to be calm and hope he'll arrive soon.

Lovely to read about all the births, reminds me the end is in sight

rachelfruitloop · 30/05/2010 14:38

Hello Ladies,

CONGRATULATIONS Schipo, well done!!! What a cool name as well!

Hollyoaks I teared up when I read about you handing Grace over to the anaesthetist - I can't imagine how difficult that must be! So glad to hear she's doing so much better after the surgery. I hope she continues to get stronger every day! Well done getting back into your jeans! I'm back in my smaller maternity jeans, LOL!

Gils, Tomlin, ML and Pigley I understand about feeling like a human dummy! Carikube I'm very of the 4.5 hours between feeds! Tomlin, BF lying down is a bit tricky for me too, I'm only doing it when I'm too tired to sit up anymore as it's so hard to get the latch on right and I think that's partially how I ended up with scabby nipples!

Mollycuddles glad to hear that Molly is well. Hope you get a chance to relax now!

Cupcake I hear you about the hard work DTD with the big bump. Truly comical! Glad my DH has a good sense of humour!

Who is left now, Cupcake, Alimouse, Homebirthmummy, Racquel, Moggmum, Booboo - hang in there and I hope that labour starts soon! I really feel for you all. I know how the anxiety just grows the longer you wait! I wonder how Yorky is getting on?

ML can't believe Olivia is 6 weeks old already!! Glad that her thyroid isn't under active after all! Sorry your DD2 has been so poorly with Tonsillitis. I had it a lot as a kid and the GP threatened to remove them. TBH I sort of wish I'd had them out as I still have problems with them. Though having to have surgery as a kid would have been very scary so it's easy to say that in hind sight!

I spoke to the consultant midwife about the attitudes of the midwives on the ward after I had Eric and it turns out that my birth was the talk of the town and brought up some issues between the consultant led team and the MLU! She is so kind, she apologised about the politics filtering through to me, we talked about it a bit over the phone and she's also going to have a debrief with me in a few weeks to go over it in detail with me. I just want to be sure that I have fully processed the experience and get a copy of my notes to keep for posterity sake.

9 days on today, and I'm on my own with Eric today as DH and DS1 are off to a christening for the day and MIL has gone for a few days to go visit her DD. Feels good to have some time to myself and funny to think how panicked I would have been if it were just me and DS1 on our own at 9 days old. Though I nearly cried this morning when Eric projectile vomited a whole feed - I've gotten into a good routine of feeding him one breast and expressing from the other for DH to feed to him in the middle of the night, now I had to feed him the other breast as of course he was ravenously hungry about 5 minutes later. Hopefully I'll be able to express later, we will see. It's very hard work feeding a gigantic baby, he's extremely hungry. I am having a bit of a low time now, have a funny tummy today with the runs (sorry TMI) and just feel like my breasts are sore, huge and dripping all the time. Think I need to soak in the tub with some lavender and tea tree oil (definitely recommend that for anyone with stitches!!!) and recharge!

Registered Eric's birth on Friday so he's official now!

I hope you are all doing well and I'm looking forward to more birth stories and announcements!

first1 · 30/05/2010 15:25

Hi everyone,

No time for personals I'm afraid but thought I'd let the world know that I've finally moved "to the other side"!.

Chloe Grace was born on 27th May at 17:58 weighing 8lb 3oz and is absolutely gorgeous. I had a 3rd degree tear as the labour was so quick (4-9cms in an hour!) so had to go in for a spinal anaesthetic to be stitched up.

Will drop in again soon. Hope everyone is well and congrats to any new mummies and babies I've missed!

xx

brightredballoon · 30/05/2010 15:28

Hollyoaks, hoping Grace is making a good recovery and is home soon, what a terrible shock that must've been.

ML you must be superwoman to have managed to go into work and so organised to have expressed before you went!

Rachel make sure you are eating plenty of protein to help your recovery, hope the feeding settles down soon.

Ahhh DD2 gave me some lovely smiles today, melted my heart!!

Totally at you guys back in normal clothes, I havent been able to curb my appetite and sweet tooth so I am embarrassed to say I have 2st to lose so it will be a while before I am feeling good about myself, although I will start back exercising next week so hopefully that will aid my better eating efforts!

SK what time is Jacob going to bed? That sounds like a great sleep

AnAngelWithin · 30/05/2010 15:48

Hello all. Congrats James and myfirstbump (did you hear me screaming down the corridor?! ) and hollyoaks. I hope grace is better soon.

so, birth story for anyone who wants it....
Well after I posted on here, I had several contractions 5 minutes apart that had me clung to the kitchen table. Got to hospital about 12.30. Was examined and baby was back to back and I was 5cm dilated. Whenever I sat down or lay down, the contractions started to fade off. So tried to keep on my feet for a bit. Then it got to the point I was shaking really badly with contractions I could barely stand up. I started on the gas and air about 6pm. By 8pm I was 7cm. 11pm came and I was STILL 7cm, and my waters were broke. DH said something about there being a pocket of water or something somewhere that was stopping things so I was rushed to consultant unit. I kept screaming that I wanted to push but I still wasn't dilated enough. I was having contraction after contraction for hours with no break between them, the midwife was starting to worry how I was coping. Eventually I was ready though and they took the gas and air off me and 00.34 on friday morning, baby willow was delivered onto my tummy weighing 8lb 15oz. She has to be whisked off them when she wasn't crying and took a while to pink up and cry which is always scarey but she was ok. The placenta didn't seem to want to budge though and took some tugging. I was put on a syntocin drip for an hour after delivery as well to be sure. DH looked completely traumatised by the whole event, hated seeing me in so much pain for so long, but held his hands up to me for cracking on and getting it done! Didn't even graze or need stitches. DH left about 2am. I went and had a shower and went back to the MLU where I was given a room to myself. Had to have my MMR as well as I wasn't immune to rubella. By 11am, we were all checked over and on our way home!!!

I still feel a bit shellshocked at how long and intese it all was, defo put me off having any more!! DH was really upset bless him. Afterpains have been out of this world and I have been shaking really badly with them like I did in labour. The first time i have ever experienced anything like that in labour!!

Willow is more settled today, she's been very aggitated with all the mucous she swallowed but I think its all just about budged now. Milk is coming in today so Willow is loving that! The kids are all besotted with her, and me and the 3 girls (can't believe I'm saying that!) had a little plod to the shop earlier.

Carikube · 30/05/2010 16:58

Congrats first1!

And thanks for your birth story Angel; I think it's really hard sometimes for our DHs - mine was pretty traumatised by events after DD2's birth and found it hard to deal with me being taken off to theatre and I think it's easy to forget sometimes what they go through as well.

Rachel don't get too of the gap between feeds round here as I'm sure this is all about to come back and bite me on the bum - DD2 has just been too easy so far and it has to end at some point, I'm sure!!

Also I'm starting to worry myself; I'd heard that there are hormones that kick in about 7 weeks after birth that mean women often get broody again and it was probably around this time that I started getting the idea of having another child after DD1. However this time round I have already told DH that I'm ready for another one and I can't imagine that DD2 will be my last child. Getting broody after only a week surely has to be a bit of a record (and absolutely bonkers!)?

pamelat · 30/05/2010 18:59

congrats angel and shipo

hollyoaks, sorry you had such traumatic time, hope grace home with you soon.

alex 13 days old now. anyone else finding that after feed baby just now grizzles, unless sling etc. he would feed all day if could. after hour long feed still rooting but if use sling will sleep for hour or so.

nights good 10pm - 2am. feed 45 mins. then wakes 5 and 7am.

problem is ealy eve, frets from 6 -10pm and wants to feed feed feed ....

mustbemadno3 · 30/05/2010 20:04

hi all really missed popping on here! once again internet been down although havent had time to even internet shop!
Missed reading posts, congrats to all new arrivals.
I have been poorly with mastitis but managed to feed threw it whilst on the antibiotics. DH week off was a mare, me with mastitis, he had sickness and diahorea and ds1 had flu. Now his dad been rushed in hospital with broken ribs and fractured spine. So hes not been around at all really.

hollyoaks so sorry to hear about grace, i hope she makes a good full recovery. Must have been awful handing her over to anethestist.

pamelet We must have same babies lol! Lillia feeds non stop from 5-10 ish. Last night was a relief she finished feed at 10.30 and slept til 3.00am at which point I gave a bottle and she fed at 6.00 a.m and then woke at 9.00 a.m...bliss. As night before she fed every hour from 12.30 - 7.00 a.m totally shattered! Boobs were about to drop off.

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 30/05/2010 21:44

Evening all!

Congratulations Angel, Schipo and First1. Hollyoaks - what a distressing experience for your family. I'm glad Grace is recovering now, fingers crossed she continues improve so quickly.

Busy weekend here! We took Felix to his first wedding yesterday, and it went surprisingly well. He was a little star, and got far too much attention! Then today my DSis and her husband came to visit and Felix got to meet his cousin, who is 3 weeks older than him, for the first time. He didn't seem particularly impressed though!

Booboo - yes, I'm local. Was planing to go to some of the 'big scream' showings either at Clapham or Brixton once DH has gone back to work after his paternity leave. Maybe we'll bump into each other!

Pigley - your day out on Friday sounds great! I don't know how you manage to fit so much in!

brightred and Rachel - thanks for your advice on routines, it sounds incredibly sensible, I definitely think I'll wait until after our trip.

ML - Sorry Olivia isn't sleeping well. A friend of mine recommended some drops called Infacol for colicky babies. Might be worth a try if you haven't already tried it?

Tomlin - sounds like you had a great day yesterday. Hope you got your wish for the comfy chair at the boating pond! I'm glad you mentioned the 21 day growth spurt. I'll know what to expect later this week when Felix gets to that point!

Pamelat - Felix goes through phases of wanting to feed constantly. This afternoon he seemed particularly hungry, feeding for an hour or more at a time, every couple of hours, whereas yesterday he fed for quick 20 minute bursts at 3 or 4-hour intervals (which I liked much better!). Actually, today he seemed to spend ages just sucking without really seeming to swallow anything, which made me wonder whether he was struggling to get enough out, and having to wait for more to come in before he was satisfied.

Does anyone know if there are particular food groups or even specific foods that are recommended when breastfeeding to benefit / optimise milk supply? If he's going to go through a growth spurt this week, then anything I can do to help the milk supply would be good.

In fact he's just woken up for a feed now. DH has taken him to have a nappy change first, so I might go and feed him in bed an get an early night.

Hope those still waiting for babies get nice bank holiday arrivals tomorrow!

sweetkitty · 30/05/2010 22:39

Evening all am so glad I am not the only one with an unsettled baby in the evenings. Jacob is so much more settled in the mornings. He does the classic cluster feeding all night and takes too much milk then is sick and doesn't want anymore but is still grizzling unless he is asleep on someone. During the day he will feed and fall asleep in his moses basket.

I usually take him up to bed with us about 10.30-11pm, feed him then he can sleep to 1ish or sometimes even 3ish, most times it's feed and back to sleep, once or twice at most so cannot grumble really. The last two were the same, I cannot remember when exactly but then I started to pull bedtime forward a bit until I was feeding them at 8ish and they were going to sleep but in saying that DD2 and 3 never slept through until a year old when I went on boob strike. All the babies sound so typically newborn, sleep all over the place.

Hollyoaks - have been following your story on here and FB, speedy recovery for Grace and hope she is home with you soon

MDM - IMHO feeding very frequently boosts supply more than anything, however there are things you can take herns like fenugreek etc, excellent BFing site kellymom also good advice about fussy babies will have to reread it myself.

first1 - congratulations on the birth of Chloe Grace lovely names

pamelat - we are the same the classic grizzly 6-10pm

carikube - I was broody the day after I had DD1 I knew I wanted another and soon this time there is no chance of me having another one though. I say go for it small age gaps are fab!

angel - so you got there in the end congrats again

rachel - sorry you are feeling so low today, the tea tree and lavender baths are the business though I must have one again soon so relaxing. I haven't expressed yet so hat off to anyone that is, combination of hungry boy needing both boobs and time to do it.

pigley - of course she is satisfied with you, the thing with babies is they are lazy and the bottle is much easier for them than BFing which they have to work harder at so if they are having both they will prefer the bottle. A common misconception is when a BF baby is unsettled and fussing at the boob the poor Mum thinks it is her fault and she is not producing enough and gives a bottle which is downed in minutes, it's just easier for the baby but interferes with BFing especially in the early days. I'm not very good at explaining myself sorry.

Right better go time for another feed!

MoggMum · 31/05/2010 06:12

40+15 today and about to fall off the May baby thread (which I never thought possible with a due date of 16th May!)

Hope everyone has a good Bank Holiday. At least the sun is shining

booboomonster · 31/05/2010 07:57

Oh bad luck Mogg! I wonder if we will squeeze in any more births! I'm 40 + 5... you start to wonder if it's ever going to happen! What's next for you? Will you be induced? Good luck!

Quick question for anyone who's had a sweep - could you take DC along or is it not suitable? DD is 2& 8 months. Any advice gratefully received.

Ooh and a potty update - DD has done some poos on the potty but only when she's no pants on. But, yesterday she asked to use it for a poo, despite being fully clothed! Much celebration here, hoping it's a breakthrough!

Anyway, come on these babies...

AliMouse · 31/05/2010 09:20

RacquelWelsh - I can't believe they expect you to make that journey just to get monitored! Hopefully you won't need to and things will start naturally.

Looks like there are a fair few of us that will have June babies! I really can't believe that so many ladies go overdue on their 2nd, 3rd or even 4th babies - I always thought it was just first babies. I'm 40+5 and have now just sort of given up. Because it's half term, I'm just going to go ahead and plan to do what we would normally do as thought I'm not in the least bit pregnant at all!

My biggest worry is still that I will have the baby on DS2's 4th birthday on Thursday. Trying not to think about it, but DH has suggested I spend the day before with my legs right up above my head on our weights bench in the incline position to discourage labour! I've spent the last 10 days doing everything in my power to bring labour on, now, the closer it gets to Thursday, I want to put the brakes on .

Respect to MoggMum and homebirthmummy4. If I have another 8-10 days of this like you, I think I will go potty.

Keep the birth stories coming - very comforting and humanising. Keeping me focused on the prize at the end. Some great names too - love Huxley and Willow!

Best of luck to all and have a great bank holiday.

MoggMum · 31/05/2010 10:31

booboo I have to go in tomorrow for scan to check placenta blood supply etc, then go back for daily monitoring until baby arrives. If they have any concerns re health of baby then I'll follow their advice and agree to an induction at that stage.

I've had two (attempted) sweeps but my cervix was too high for them to have any affect. They don't take more than a few minutes (similar to a smear but without the horrible metal thingy!).

Let's hope things happen for us soon, along with Ali, cupcake, Racquel & homebirthmummy. Is there anyone else left on the thread who hasn't had their LO yet?

Off to meet friends for picnic on the beach today - they originally organised it in order to 'wet the baby's head'! Ha, ha, they'll have to splash water on my poor stretched belly instead

cupcakefairy · 31/05/2010 11:50

Hello ladies I'm still here too...40+12
Had a massive weepy moment on phone to my Mum yesterday cos just feeling like I've let everyone down.. a few family members had booked train tickets/hotels etc for half term week and have had to cancel them all now. I know it's not my fault and it was always a possibility baby wouldn't be here by now but it just feels like I'm messing everyone around
Induction booked Weds but I'm going to ask for it to be moved to Fri if nothing's happened.

racquel I feel for you; that is a worse situation than mine as my MLU is within the main hospital & we're only a few minutes drive away. really hope things happen for you soon!

mogg good luck for scans etc tomorrow.

booboo I would say you can take your dd along to the sweep; it's v quick. My advice is wear a skirt, preferably long and floaty! Then you can just whip your pants off but still have a bit of modesty rather than baring all of your bottom half I have another sweep tomorrow, praying it works! When dh and I placed bets a few weeks ago on baby's arrival he said 1st June...at the time I was horrified by the thought but maybe he was right & baby is just listening to its Dad Feel sad that this prob won't be a May baby now though

first1 huge congrats on Chloe, lovely name

angel thanks for the birth story...crazy that it can still be so traumatic after 5. My Mum said her 4th birth was the worst in fact

carikube lol to being broody already! I think that's fab.

rachel poor you and your boobs keeping up with your big boy's appetite! Sounds like you're doing a sterling job though.

I have done some stalking investigating on MN and dorothea and asparagusaddict have definitely had babies...not sure about the remaining ladies on our list but they seem to have abandoned us!

cupcake sorry to hear you are but please please don't blame yourself for any of this. People realise that babies don't arrive 'on demand' and the EDD really is just an estimate - LO will come when its ready.

As for those talking about falling off the May thread, I thought we were all going to stick together until the last LO turned up - we've been through the last few months together so we're not about to split up now!

Sending out labour vibes to those still waiting and hope you're not too uncomfortable...
