New ante-natal thread... the post-natal thread is here

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
BlueyDragon · 01/03/2010 19:57

Congratulations TLC - and I'm admiring your devotion to this thread!

Was doing fine today until late afternoon when I started feeling like I was in transition. Sick, wobbly temperature, back ache, generally rubbish. Sounds a lot like Mawbroon - I hope things are now moving for you.

Fingers crossed for all sweepers/inducers/due tomorrow. Surely one baby must arrive on time? (Are you listening, BabyDragon?)

PacificDogwood · 01/03/2010 20:20

Hi, Diana, welcome!

Re sweeps: Was it westlondongirl who asked? In principle sweeps work (there are studies to prove it) but not every single time. With DS1 I had 2 sweeps and still had formal induction at T+15, with DS3 2nd sweep did the trick at T+12 .
To have a sweep the cervix has to be 'favourable' ie allow at least 1 finger in, yikes! Also, IME, the more uncomfortable vigorous the sweep the more likely to set things off... Only works when your body is ready for labour anyway, so sweeps at 38 weeks much less often successfull than after term.

Ooooooh, no word from mawbroon - hope she is snuggled up with newborn .

hecklephone · 01/03/2010 20:59

Congratulations TLC! Well done you, and what lovely names. Enjoy snuggling your new wee man!

Welcome Diana, make yourself at home (at least until it's time to switch to the Post natal thread )

Gah shroomer, I'm really trying NOT to encourage such behaviour just 4 days before my due date - I have visions of me in the delivery room and DH in traction in the room next door or something . Hence my disapproval of the whole powerisers project!

Husbands/partners, eh? You can't live with them, you can't make babies without them!!

Sariska · 01/03/2010 21:22

TLC - congratulations. And top marks for good prioritisation of MNing when you got home .

I'm with Bluey: surely at least one baby has to come on time. Probably won't be mine, though. Am fully expecting to have to test the efficacy of sweeps. I had 2 last time, both after 40 wks (can't remember when exactly). Went into labour about 24 hrs after the second one. I have a feeling that if a sweep is going to work it's supposed to do so within 48 hours.

Re DHs: mine has just carefully enquired if there was anything I'd like to watch on TV. When I said "no", he smiled happily and switched over to the new series of Air Crash Investigation (remember some of us were complaining about this several threads ago?).

Probably I should just go to bed but am not actually feeling that tired. DS blessed us with an uninterrupted night last night and then MIL very kindly came round to entertain him this morning so I could go back to sleep. Bliss.

Hope things are picking up for you, Pacific, and that you avoid the CP, Heckle. Smac - very best of luck for tomorrow. Looking forward to hearing about mini Smac's safe arrival.

Hello to everyone else, especially everyone who is overdue. 'tis a most frustrating feeling, I remember.

Diana120586 · 01/03/2010 21:34

Hi everyone

Thank you for having me ;-)

How are all the mommies feeling? I have 4weeks left and apart from feeling really tired I feel pretty OK although the nursery room isnt finished yet and I'm so annoyed and frustrated as I wish it was all done by now..

Have you all done you're rooms? Is everyone as scared as I am before the big day ? thats all I think about.. Oh and a silly question --- any ideas on how to get rid of heartburn LOL

D xx

Rindercella · 01/03/2010 21:35

TLC - congratulations Great name too! Hope you're al snuggled up with Adam now and that things are going well.

Mawbroon sincerely hope that things are progressing for you. I really feel for you - you've had a heck of a time with it.

Henrietta, have added you to the FB group (Arcadie is normally quick as a bullet so gets there first...this was the one time I beat her to it!).

Aracadie lol at your DS. Very cute! DD pointed at my boobs the other day and said, 'baby eats that'. Remembering what a total milk monster she was, I don't think she was a million miles off the mark!

Bloody lovely weather here today too...ended up going for lunch with a friend. Just a garden centre, but sat in the conservatory with the sun shining and the most fabulous views out to the Cotswolds was just lovely. Felt positively Spring-like!

DH is still laid up with his man flu terrible flu - he had a shocking temperature of 37.8 yesterday. Thankfully it's back to 37 today [phew]. I am having to resist very hard getting into a competitive 'I feel more crap than you' argument with him...he has man flu. I am 37 weeks pregnant, anaemic, still have bad throat & hacking cough from bug caught 2 weeks ago, and I have caught another cold. Coupled with being up to 2am last night as DD had bad cough too (thankfully seems better today) which was keeping her awake and then hardly any sleep cos of heartburn and needing to wee AND then having to get up for DD (and have nice lunch as per above) & do her weekly music class thingy, I think I win! Good to get that off my chest, as it's not worth arguing with DH about!

Moan, moan, moan. What a grumpy old sod I'm becoming! Sorry.

MummyElk · 01/03/2010 21:36

good luck smac for tomorrow, will be thinking of you!
Diana welcome and is this your first? 26th March is a very good day to be born on, I've had 29 very happy birthdays so far on that day!! . We basically churn out whatever we are feeling on here, so feel free to moan/ask questions/tell us a joke...whatever takes your fancy...
sariska thanks for headsup re ACI it's now on and DH is happy and i'm let off mning whilst being surprised that MN has its uses?!!
I was going to suggest some perineal massage this evening (for me and DH, not a mass Thread Experience!!) but i'm not sure I can be arsed now.....we all know it'll end up turning into shenanigans.....
Today's Food Discovery of the Day was....a peanut butter, banana and nutella sandwich
Don't let me think about them too much or i'll end up having one every day
Have bored you enough today. sorry. have good evenings everyone, more babies please!!

Pingpong · 01/03/2010 21:38

Waves hello to you all.
Congratulations TLC
2nd sweep doesn't seem to have had much effect so I'm going to bed after I've taken my pre-meds at 10pm. I'm to have breakfast at 6am along with second dose of meds and then fast, only having sips of water til 12 then nil by mouth. Surgery is scheduled for early afternoon but there are two of us on the list so far so I'm not exactly sure when op will be. I'll update on FB and Arcadie can spill.
I'll probably be dithering around on laptop killing time between 6am breakfast and 10.30 departure to hospital.
Can't believe that I finally get to meet baby Mac tomorrow one way or another.
Thanks for all the well wishes and wonders if anyone had a St David's Day baby? Mother dearest was suggesting that had I popped today I should have included David or Davina in baby's name
Night all

Diana120586 · 01/03/2010 21:40

Oh thanks MummyElk

Yeah this is my first, how about you? and when are you due?

P.s. good to know that the 26th is a good day

PacificDogwood · 01/03/2010 21:49

Sariska, thanks for warning re ACI - not again!! Had to sit through Richard Hammond going on about the Airbus the other night...

Good luck tomorrow, Smac, there is definetely an end (and a beginning ) in sight for you . But, gosh, they are not giving you much time for this sweep to work, are they? Was it not just done today? Nevermind, 'tis the result that counts.

Rinders, your poor poor DH - does he not understand that a pregnant woman wins the 'who's more miserable?' competition every single time?
Hope you both feel better v soon.

Felt compelled to do a Mini Egg study - and I hate Cadbury's chocolate normally . Strangely enough the bag is empty - should've gone to bed half an hour ago - gah!

Diana120586 · 01/03/2010 21:52

How could I find mommies within my area who are due in mid March and want to meet up??

I would really like to make some friends as none of my friends have babies and I do feel a bit left out sometimes don't want to bore them with nappy or breast feeding talks

pacific had first sweep on Saturday and this was second this morning. I was given chance to delay ELCS or induction but I just want baby out now!
diana I may well get shot for saying this on mumsnet but the other site netmums IMO has a much better local board and meet a mum section. I was desperate to meet new mums as I had moved to a new area when pregnant and although I didn't find any on netmums I still check to see what is going on for local events there from time to time. A lot of people find mums at NCT but there was nothing very local for me on offer but I started going to my local family centre and there I found out about more groups and activities.

IsItMeOr · 01/03/2010 22:03

Hello - just popped in to say how much I like the title of your thread. My DS was a March 09 boy, and I think it's a fab time of year to have your little one, as you're really getting into the swing of things when the weather hopefully improves!

Good luck all!

Caitni · 01/03/2010 22:16

Smac best of luck tomorrow . Hope you don't have to wait too long before you get your chance to meet babymac

Diana welcome . You could try the Mumsnet Local part of the site, although I've no idea how good it as I've not ever used it (or, whispers, you could just use Netmums, as Smac suggests - the whispers is because netmums is not popular on here at all ). You can also just check the list a couple of posts back for info on who's due when with what

Would love to be someone who's baby arrives on time but my twinges have worn off so doubt any action will kick off over night. Still, am sipping my raspberry leaf tea and hoping that I don't have too long to wait til my baby arrives!

Night all [wanders off wondering if anyone had their babies today]

mumofsevenplusfour · 01/03/2010 22:56

went to visit postnatal ward on friday and while there they thought i loooked a bit dehydrated blood tests done ended up showing was very dehydrated ended up being admitted for i/v fluids from friday through monday so the visit to antenatal ward ended up as a trial run for next weekend not quite what i'd planned but dh coped admirably and it wasnt quite as bad as i'd imagined .think just had been so busy trying to get info re options and attending hospital appointments that id justnot be taking enough fluid on board
finally come to terms with cs and done finally let go of desire for and disappointment at not having a natural birth
still a bit fed up that even over the weekend one dr would say one thing and another something else re timing of cs ie either 3rd or 5th just added to the general sense of confusion. wish they could sing from the same hymn sheet
having said that i am now feeling calm and even managed a nights sleep wish i could
say same for baby as she appears to have taken up aerobics and loves nothing more than to bounce up and down on her behind all night a very strange feeling
back to the name books as having chosen a very sweet name i now feel this young lady may need a stronger name as she appears to have attitude
i feel like a child at christmas 4 more sleeps and then all being she'll be
here not a moment too soon

DrSkidaddle · 02/03/2010 00:22

oooh think I am finally in labour - regular-ish contractions and a huge show - maybe sweeps do work after all... [extremely excited emotion]

smac good luck for tomorrow - can't wait to hear

and good luck to everyone else, especially mawbroon and Iwonka

Hi diana and welcome - I have met up with mums through 'mumsnetlocal' on here - I think there are quite a few areas where mums met up regularly

Pingpong · 02/03/2010 06:37

Oh Pixie I feel bad now for forgetting your birthday - belated birthday wishes!
So now the girls can come anytime right?
DrS I saw your post on overdue thread first but I am very excited for you. Sounds like a 2nd March baby for you!
I'm up early for my breakfast and pre-meds but I am incredibly itchy on my lady parts, don't know whether the sweeps have introduced something nasty but I could really do without an itch right now!
mumof7+4 sorry to hear you are still anxious but glad you are at least hydrated now and DH coped over the weekend. You really don't have long to wait now! I feel a bit like you as I've had lots of conflicting advice re induction and VBAC. It's so hard to know what's for the best when you hear different advice all the time.
diana I also met mums at activity things like swimming, baby massage, sing and sign - just look out for anything baby related in your area in the press, on the internet, maybe posters at your doctors surgery or at the hospital. Some church halls have mother and baby groups or mother and toddler groups it's just really a question of finding out what is happening in your area. You will be assigned a Health Visitor once your MW signs you off (usually 7-10 days after birth) and they sometimes can suggest groups to attend eg Breastfeeding support groups if that is of interest.

MummyElk · 02/03/2010 07:37

Morning all
Beautiful day dawning here, good omens for the two? babies hopefully arriving today?! Well done smac you are remarkable, bet you are very excited now!! Hope the itchiness is just a hormonal early morning thing....Will keep an eye out for your post later today!! any last minute thoughts on girl/boyness?!!

Any news drskid?
I dreamt all night about mawbroon, at 0215 particularly woke with a start thinking about her....hope all is ok. Also kept dreaming that arcadie kept reposting my list with new amendments which, let's face it, is perfectly likely?!!!

diana smac gives good advice (as ever), your HV will hopefully give you lots of postings of baby massage classes, sing and sign etc. It's quite amazing how many church groups do lovely playgroups, it takes a bit of trying to find the ones you like but they are worth going to. Check out your local Children's Centre (if you have one) nearby, they often do great little classes. I did Water Babies with DD and have met some lovely mums through that (your local swimming pool will do classes too). Your NCT local person will also probably organise Open Houses nearby, so if you haven't already done antenatal classes with them (or the NHS ones) then there are general drop in Coffee Chat and Cake sessions with them too. I also did something called Buggy Buddies here in Bristol, there are plenty of versions across the country, you bascially meet in a park, a personal trainer makes you run (a bit) around and do a bit of exercise and then you all descend on a cafe and eat cake. Lovely job.
It sounds unlikely but I promise, once the baby is out and you are pottering around doing things you'll find there's plenty of mums out there too!! Which area are you in anyway?

Still toying with Potty Training today, DD is using the potty quite nicely (completely her decision, bizarre) so may go into big girl pants and see what happens.
Have a quick dr's app to check my blood pressure, my eyesight still keeps going, not sure if it's focal migraines or not but they want to check . i'm sure it's hormonal!!

Have a good day all, hope varying twinges etc do turn into full blown labour - keeps us end of the monthers on our toes anyway doesn't it?!!!

Shroomer · 02/03/2010 08:31

Diana120586 - you've got loads of questions! I'll have a stab at answering some of them. In terms of meeting people in your area, I'd advise you to complete your profile and make this visible - add in where you're from. Bear in mind that you may not want to be too specific about where you're from because you may want to discuss things like mucous plugs and sex on here (and for the same reason, some MNetters don't give away many details on their profile). If you find that someone lives in your area you can email them via MN (see the help page). I agree with Smac about Netmums being better for meeting locally. I didn't know Netmums wasn't popular on Mumsnet - don't know the history there.

Heartburn - someone on here called it mintsnot - Gaviscon. Stop eating before 7pm.

p.s. Are you American (but living here obviously!)?
