Hi all-you all sound reasonably restful and positive today! Dh gone to nightshift again so another night of starfishing-theres a shame! Sadly dh aunt died today after illness.guess funeral likely to be end of the week as is his job interview. Odds now on for early arrival of baby scooby-just to see how much poor dh can cope with at once.dh normally really good with stress but this would start to try a saint. Legs now crossed and harsh words to bump banning arrival before next weekend! X

rebeccacad · 20/02/2010 22:42

Great new thread title!

Just to let you know we've chosen a name: Sofya (pronounced like it's spelled - Sof-Ya), with middle name Anne.

I've posted a picture on my profile.

Still dotty about her though knackered!

Hang on in there.

designerbaby · 20/02/2010 22:53

FOUR births? It's only the middle of February and I've missed FOUR births? Ladies, it seems I can't leave you alone, you're simply OUT OF CONTROL!

Anyway - helloooooo! Finally found you all, and blimey after a quick skim of the old thread (not a hope of catching up properly with you prolific lot - I really didn't expect a new thread already!) it seems you'e all been very busy!?

So first things first. Congratulations to Evitas, P&P, Rebecca and Sarah - great to hear of your safe arrivals. All beautiful no doubt, will head over to the postnatal thread later in the hope that there are links to piccies.

We finally have a dongle!! No broadband, because, unfeasibly, the whole process of setting up sky, getting a phone-line installed and up and running and, finally, getting broadband takes about six weeks?! I mean. What IS this, 1998?

Rant over... Sorry for my absence. I can check this on my iPhone, but the thread had gotten so long I couldn't manage to scroll down to the bottom to see latest posts let alone add anything, plus the type size on screen is MINI... [squint].

Well, we're in the new house. It was, literally, a building site for the first two weeks, with burly Polish guys all over the place and more mess and dust than I've ever seen in my life. But we've worked our arses off the last three weeks, and now have DD1's room painted, our room half painted, most of the woodwork done, bathroom finished, kitchen finished, most door handles in and functioning, (although you still shut the door to the downstairs loo at your peril, and in the knowledge that it may take some time before anyone remembers you're in there and comes and lets you out) and, as of last week, flooring down throughout, which resulted in an immediate 90% reduction in mess and dust which was most welcome.

And it's possible to see, now, that it will be beautiful when sorted, and the space already works really well for us. DD1 has been tearig around and loving the open-plan thing.

We've both been up til about 1-2am most nights getting stuff done, and I'm honestly more tired than I ever thought possible - having an energetic two year old to entertain 6 out of 7 days, when she's used to the frenetic pace of nursery life 3/4 days a week is hectic too.

That and catering for said burtly Polish blokes - averaging about 24 cups of tea and about 8 bacon sarnies a day... I should maybe consider catering as an alternate career...

Luckily this hasn't resulted in an early arrival of designerbaby #2 - although I spent 16 hours in hospital last week with a bleed, which they thought might have been a show, but turns out was probably more likely the result of overdoing it in a big way. Told to rest - HA. Haven't been, but no more bleeding, so just one of those things.

Did have a bit of a panic attack afterwards though, about the prospect of bringing a newborn into a house swarming with workmen and paddling in dust and noxious filler fumes and the like... But am over that too.

St Helier hospital seems lovely - midwives on the delivery suite (where I spent several hours following the bleed) were lovely - but I have a bit of a fight on my hands regarding my wish to give birth in the midwife-led unit.

My thinking is that to avoid the kind of damage I had last time, I would be best off trying for the most natural birth I can - minimal interventions, no epidural etc. To me, the MWLU with it's pools and balls seems like the best place to achieve this... To them, previous 3rd degree tear means consultant led on the delivery suite. End of. Which makes NO sense to me...

They're also a bit funny about the fact I've said I will refuse any kind of drug-based induction - even though this was what my previous consultant advised... I think they think I'm being awkward. I'm not trying to be, but WILL NOT go through that again...

They're very very anti-CS though, by all accounts, and can't understand why I would would opt for that rather than another induction...

Anyway, my first coat of paint must be dry by now, so I'd better go and do the second. Oh Joy...

Will try and catch up more fully and post less of a me, me, me thread next time... . My internet time, is likely to remian pretty limited tbh, but will try and keep up - it's going to be an exciting few weeks, after all!

Hugs to everyone,
db
xx

MummyElk · 20/02/2010 23:16

scooby26 · 21/02/2010 00:30

Welcome back DB!!!!

mumof2point5 · 21/02/2010 02:14

our thread is mentioned in sunday times!
i'm on tiny comp and can't manage links - can someone?
congrats to our "1st mummies!"
not long now everyone........

PacificDogwood · 21/02/2010 06:33

Oh, cannot wait for Sunday Times now!

Pregnancy insomnia, gah! Been awake since @ 4am and gave up eventually....

Welcome back, DB, your house project sounds insane amazing . Happy New Home, and all that.
We had totally gutted out previous house just before I found out I was expecting DS1, stayed with neighbours for 10 months - bless them! And managed to move back in about 5 days before DS's arrival - who'd been 2 weeks late, so there was an anxious couple of weeks during which I thought post-natal me may need to come back to neighbours with my PFB . Didn't happen though, phew!

Will I bother going back to bed now or just demand a long nap this afternoon??

PacificDogwood · 21/02/2010 07:15

Did not go back to bed...

Read the ST online, the article is rubbish IMVHO... and although we are mentioned, I do not recognise us at all (tense, itchy etc, etc, us???)

Sariska · 21/02/2010 07:21

Afternoon nap the way to go. 'tis what I have planned too .

Article (there's a link on ITN page), yes, a bit disappointing. I'm sure he could've found something positive to say about our thread! But interesting to read the bit about It being a scary place for men. Must ask DH if he finds me scary right now. Suspect not: just wearing, I fear.

PacificDogwood · 21/02/2010 07:23

Ha, DH always finds me scary !! But in a good way ...

Rindercella · 21/02/2010 08:37

Welcome back DB! Really don't envy you the building site - we had a small extension done when DD was about 16 months old...that was bad enough!

Just read the ST article - thought it was quite funny (and true)! I am most definitely tired & grumpy, however I think Itchy & Scratchy are a couple of characters on kids TV? I expect to see a glut of disgruntled men on here now though, having their personal rants in AIBU.

I have yet another throat infection - can barely speak. DD runs round the house trying to find Mummy's voice! Amazingly it is that waking me up in the middle of the night at the moment, rather than the usual heartburn or leg cramps I had a horrible thought when I was wide awake at 3am the other day - bugger, it's going to be a good 6 months before I can even think about getting a full night's sleep again

See - tired and grumpy

annamama · 21/02/2010 08:38

Welcome back DB! Glad you're ok although very tired & stressed it seems...

Thanks Caitni, I won't worry then.

mumof2point5 · 21/02/2010 10:06

hi
i just reposted as i am expecting no 3 and not no 2 as listed! have finally got on to a proper puter.....
i had the worst ever heartburn, was so bad i was vomiting fairly constantly. MW/Consultant didn't seem too concerned and i foolishly just put up with it. read about a tablet called OMEPRAZOLE and went and asked doc could i try it (don't think they like to give it out early on, but ok after 30 weeks)
well........................... it is just like a miracle!! the heartburn has gone, i can lie down, i can eat what i like, when i like
YIPEE
highly recommend it - things are hard enough at this point, every little helps!
hope everyone well

JasHook · 21/02/2010 11:46

Oh dear...we're that bad are we?! Though I do agree about the prowling. I've definitely been prowling about the house since starting mat leave.

Yay for lack of heartburn mumof2 and very glad to see DB back as well.

donttrythisathome · 21/02/2010 11:52

Gorgeous name rebecca. I was thinking of Anne as a second name too after my MIL, although now liking Ariane too...

Thaks for the tips re the Bravado bra Pacific - as another big knockered person I need all the advice I can get.

Roight...off to check me cervix...

BulletProofMum · 21/02/2010 12:38

Don't try - can you reach your cervix?! I'm impressed.

A few days out of her and I come to lots of babies. Many congrats to all.

Now I have finished work I'm just wanting baby bullet to stay put until the end ofthe month so Icna have a little time to myself before DS2 comes out of nursery t the beginning of March.

annamama · 21/02/2010 12:39

Bah, I just read it, thanks for the link Siamese. Haha, whatever...

OP posts:
annamama · 21/02/2010 12:42

Oh and I forgot to say hi Iwonka, I was wondering where you were!

I'm really uncomfortable today, feel like I can't breathe, baby pushing against my lungs or diaphragm or whatever it is, remember this from last time and hate it. Really want this baby to be born beginning of March instead of middle (or end). So envious of you who already have your babies!

Oh and I must pack labour bag. My mum has told me that her first labour (me) took ages but my sister was pretty fast...

I feel like a whale today. A literal whale. DH very kindly pointed out last night that I have stretchmarks on my fanjo

Anyone else found they have stretchmarks in rather odd places?

siamesecatwoman · 21/02/2010 13:49

ooo watch this if you can't wait for the waterbirth on 'One born every minute' - so calm!!

Caution - footage features non- screaming woman giving birth .

annamama · 21/02/2010 14:06

Aw that's a lovely birth, that's what we want!

DH just misunderstood me, he didn't realise I was watching a video, he thought I was just on mumsnet. I said: OMG there's this woman sitting in the pool with the baby's head sticking out between her legs! He said: What, and she's typing on mumsnet?!

OP posts:
Henrietta · 21/02/2010 14:19

DB go with you on the natural as poss after 3rd degree-have done loads of research on this conc...left lateral/all fours best positions for minimising strain. Inducing wouldn't be good because makes for sorter labour and you want to take it slowly, even in 2nd stage to allow cervix to soften fully. link here for more info www.radmid.demon.co.uk/thirddeg.htm#cs
also seems beneficial to labour in water and perhaps put oil on in wks before? and need I say Breeeeeeeath head out. (Ive had 3rd 1st & 3rd tear last one cos shoulders got stuck) arm yourself with loads of printouts!!! good luck with the rest of decorating.

Am now off to find out about examining cervix's...Ive had 3 kids and havn't a clue how to tell cant really see whats happening down there in labour!

wave to everyone else, guess Ill be one of the last on here...
