Morning Ladies,

Survived the long long flight and did NOT give birth on the plane - hurrah! Slightly shocked by the cold weather in this part of the world though - going from +30 to 0 in one day. Shiver.

CONGRATS to those ladies who've had their babies already. It's starting to hit me that I will actually have a baby soon. Arrghh! Do not feel ready.

Meet my midwife for the first time this week (36 weeks).

Off to panic quietly about EVERYTHING.

lisbapalea · 22/02/2010 09:45

Morning all. My pregnant brain is getting worse and worse!

Just managed to make a carrot cake and as I put it in the oven I realised I hadn't included any carrot within the mix....

Also did a big Sainsburys shop on Friday then realised I hadn't taken my wallet, and on Saturday when trying to assembly our brand new buggy I attached the hood thing on back to front so it protects the back of the buggy and not the baby's head. And now we can't undo it. Ooops.

Can I expect this dufus brain to last or will I regain some intelligence in the near future?

annamama · 22/02/2010 09:59

Welcome to this part of the world Afri, great that the flight went ok!

Congrats Mumbot!

DrSkid - thanks for description of cervix checking! Although I was a bit disappointed with the loss of the gory details in your original post... wonder if it really got censored?

So exciting for you and TLC, things might be happening as we type, cool!

Pacific - that's weird that you don't feel like checking yourself... but I guess it's kinda normal. An ex in Sweden was a car mechanic and he never felt like fixing his own dodgy old car. (ahhh, not suggesting you're dodgy & old! )

Glad other people dislike that Liz Jones too, I have felt like emailing her, but there's probably no point, in fact I feel sorry for her.

Bluey - I'm scared and excited too! And tired & hormonal. All normal.

Hi LouBudd! I'm on the raspberry leaf tea, not sure if it will help but surely worth a try.

Siamese - my hips hurt too, if it's the one in the air it could be cuz your bed is too soft or too hard, not sure which. You just have to keep turning over...

Off to find birthing ball and maybe book appt for waxing.

ilovegreenbeans · 22/02/2010 13:29

Hi again,

Well, yesterday the bikini wax seemed like a great idea, but my bits are not a lot sorer compared to pre-preg after-waxes...!

I woke up in such a foul mood this morning, compounded by:

  1. Rain, rain, rain
  2. No concrete plans for me and DD today.
  3. A promise to DH that I would post a guitar he's just sold on ebay. Post office is only a 5 min walk down the road, so I ended up putting it in the buggy under the rain cover, sticking DD in her rainsuit and wellies and trudging down there with her trailing behind asking to be carried or jumping in big puddles. My mac doesn't fit anymore, so I just got wet. Round trip took us an hour- no joke! Grr...
  4. Good friend had a baby girl yesterday and as well as being excited, I have realised that I am insanely jealous that she is not pg anymore! I want my baby here now!!

Have now put DD down for a sleep and have eaten a whole bag of Haribo- feeling marginally better.

Sarah, can't believe you did school run this morning! You're very brave.
Really exciting news about shows and cx- hopefully have some more babies before we know it!

DrSkidaddle · 22/02/2010 13:30

Hi Sarah, wow that is impressive doing the school run just a few dats in in the freezing cold and glad the family are adjusting well to your new arrival

siamese - that huge groan was the DH???? Really? Was he just overcome with emotion? So she didn;t make a sound at all? Wow, she is my inspriration!

caitni do you just keep the same water in the pool until you give birth??? No idea how these things work. An hour in warm water every night certainly sounds very appealing...

well NOTHING happening here AGAIN. Contractions stopped completely when I started MNetting! I think I will lose my mind if this happens again. Apparently it is very common for 3rd labours to be start and stop before they really start. It is infuriating though

ilovegreenbeans · 22/02/2010 13:30

bits are now a lots sorer...

ilovegreenbeans · 22/02/2010 13:31

oh, i give up!

Caitni · 22/02/2010 14:05

Sarah wow at the school run! Sounds like things are going so well for you

DrSkid sorry to hear the cx have eased - but it won't be long now! Here's hoping they pick up again soon [sends virtual labour vibes]. We actually went with a pool that has a filter and heating system, like a temporary hot tub, so the water can stay in the pool until I'm in established labour. It wasn't the cheapest option, so relaxing in it pre-labour helps me feel it's a justified expense .

Afri well done on making it back to freezing germany! Hope the midwife app goes well

ILGB gosh, you were brave with the waxing - hope the pain eases soon. I can't be arsed to go to the post office to post a letter today so hats off to you managing to post a guitar!

IWCAS I'm doing a version of the HypnoBirthing one rather than the natal hypnotherapy one but I think falling asleep is A Good Thing (that's what our teacher said). So when labour starts you'll be used to it getting you in a deeply relaxed state. Or something!

Lisba preg brain is awful! But I admit your post also made me . Hope the buggy gets sorted soon (that is just the sort of thing I would do!).

Anna Liz Jones has annoyed me for years. I don't read the DM but she did a wedding planner column for the guardian years and years ago and I just found the whole thing unbearable (and I was in my early 20s and had no interest in marriage at the time and it still wound me up!).

Pacific how nice of your boys to get their uncle to take them to school .

So I spent a bit of last night researching how many first timers go overdue and, to be honest, I'm amazed they don't give first timers an EDD of 41+ weeks! It seems the median delivery date for first timers is around then...also hadn't realised the 40 week gestation came from an early 19th century scientist who decided that normal pregnancies "should" be 10 lunar months. Which makes me realise why there's a 5 week window from 37-42 weeks - it all seems so inexact! What I was really hoping for is evidence that an IVF pregnancy (with exact conception dates) means I'm less likely to go overdue but only found one study that supported that. I thought I could quieten my mum, who is constantly reminding me all the first timers in my family have gone up to, and even past, 42 weeks! Ah well, I'm now trying to accept that baby will arrive when baby's ready (just hoping baby's ready before too long!).

Right, off to try and have a nap. Lack of sleep catching up on me...

opalfruity · 22/02/2010 14:36

Afternoon all.

Feeling quite chirpy as baby is apparently finally beginning to engage so I might be able to breathe again soon

annamama · 22/02/2010 14:41

Yes it's hard to find a first timer that wasn't overdue! I was 1 week overdue.

scooby26 · 22/02/2010 14:49

Hi all

IWCAS Glad all still being adult with your not so ex ex!!! Must be a happier place for you

Mumbot many congrats!!!

siamese I thought it was just me that fell asleep EVERY time I've listened to that CD. My DH gets very amused by that fact!! I'd love to make it to the end!!!

ILOVE I've been getting regular waxes for years and throughout the pregnancy. Sadly I now have numerous ingrown hairs that I wouldn't normally suffer. Don't know what is causing it but impossible to sort out when you can't reach IYkWIM. Going for laser asap after birth- this is just getting too sore now and can't look good!!!

Caitni why did you have to spoil my imagination that my LO will arrive at 39 weeks!! I KNOW in reality that first timers go overdue but I so am in denial about it - I canlt imagine being pregnant and getting EVEN BIGGER for another 3.5 weeks!!!

xx

ilovegreenbeans · 22/02/2010 15:04

Me too- had DD at 41+1

I'm quite at so many of you getting bits waxed! I'm not against it when not pg but I'm afraid
a) it might make me go into labour! And
b) I've given up on that whole area - I'm resigned to fact it's going to be a disaster zone for the next wee while

I was planning to get a pedicure and eyebrow wax as a wee treat for myself but decided to just save the money and cancel it - it's one hour of pampering OR a new pair of jeans after baby is born....the jeans won!

Glad to know I'm not the only one ignoring my birthing ball!!

scooby DH laughs at the CD - he is constantly putting on the reassuring calm voice and saying 'as the wonderful time approaches you will feel the need to buy the CDs in my range..' which she may well be saying at the end - who knows? We've never heard it!!!!

Bought nursing bra at bravissimo today - how very unattractive they are - and such high cups! There'll be no pretty tops for me this summer 'specially since I am now measuring 36GG!! Ample of nork indeed, pacific

Midwife app this morning was good, and she is convinced baby will be average weight (contrary to scary prediction at 4d scan) so although its all conjecture anyway, Ill believe her..

louBudd what does the clary sage do? Where do you get it?

Afribaby do you have family in germany with you?

Pixie did the lovely Tamba lady have any others? I am in awe of both her and you!

annamama · 22/02/2010 17:13

Oh never mind about waxing bits (I don't), but I should really go to have hairy legs & inside of thighs waxed. However I also have lots of ingrown hairs at the moment, thanks for sharing that Scooby, so maybe I won't bother... who cares.

Just checking in here. Things move so quickly its hard to keep up (repeating myself I know)

Big congrats to the new mummies. I am very envious and would like baby SB to arrive as soon as possible. Enjoy all the lovely baby snuggles...

Not much to report really. Getting fed up with not being able to sleep properly, seem to wake up about every 2 hrs...eugh.

Going to an NHS ante natal session tomorrow. Should be interesting in terms of getting the low down on the hospital as didn't live in this area when DS was born and hospital tours currently not available cos of swine flu.

Have had totally bone idle day with DS today...just lots of pottering about the house getting him to help me with jobs or getting him to do stuff on his own. Keep telling myself its all part of the grand plan to encourage self sufficiency in him for when DC2 arrives. Currently absorbed in 'Cars', which is surprisingly watchable compared to some other the other shit educational material we find on tv!

mumofsevenplusfour · 22/02/2010 18:24

congratulations to all those with beautiful cant believe there here and its only february enjoy them very .spent most of day at hospital as midwife was still pretty certain lo still breech at 37+2 and measuring small. scan confirmed complete breech but about average size wise . had psyched myself up for ecv to avoid elcs if at all possible but told they werent prepared to try this as had elcs with dd1 17 years ago. dont know how i feel on one level shocked surprised pleased to have a finish line in sight and thought of holding lo a week or so early is certainly very appealing also easier to arrange childcare especially for dc7 on the other hand feel miserable as i really dont want a cs because i dont want to be in hospital long , worried about not driving, doing housework ,lifting etc for 6 weeks . realistic that babies safety is most important but sorrely tempted to press for vaginal breech delivery even though its against hospital policy
sorry about the moan other than that not feeling to bad mild heartburn and nausea , some insomnia and off on tightenings which keep making me wonder if baby ready for great escape.
having a major panic that both scans which said 99% certainity a girl are going to be wrong and well have a son wholl spend his first 3 months dressed in pink and dresses and called cecily .
better go and hunt down those receipts just in case !
ds4age 3 came home from shops with a bunch of flowers which he had insisted on buying for mummy. definitely not dh idea as he just doesnt do flowers . cue floods of hormonal tears and warm rosey glow

Sariska · 22/02/2010 19:29

Oh, how lovely of your ds, Mumofsevenplusfour.

Btw, I am yet another one whose dc1 came at 41+1. I've also read that if your first child was late, there's a good chance your second will be too. Right now that doesn't bother me but I suspect I'll be finding it a bit irksome in 3 weeks time.

Planning to get nursing bras tomorrow. Unlike many of you, I am not ample of norkage (at least not once the first few days of milk engorgement have gone) so I will be going for the padded option. If only I could transplant a bit of fat from my backside, which seems to think that it, as well as my belly, is carrying a baby!

Was thinking about what you said, IWCAS, about the oddness of the idea that our thread might be interesting to other people. And I do find it an odd idea. I mean, I've always vaguely supposed that there would be pregnant lurkers who, for whatever reason, don't post but the thought of journalists or other random people reading away is a bit weird. Journalists, I suppose, have to look for copy somewhere although I'd prefer they didn't look here - but why would anyone else want to read? (And I bet there are people who are doing so.) Anyway, here's a big cheery wave to all our lurkers!

AfriBaby · 22/02/2010 19:57

Hi ladies and siamese - the DH came with me to Germany, he is able to take some months off work, which is great for me! And thanks for the welcome caitni (and anyone else I forgot).

Was thinking of going for a wax too, but feeling lazy. And frankly, nothing has been done down there for so long it's . At night, you can hear the faint sound of drumming...
Is hair removal cream really that terrible when pregnant? Anyone used it?

Anyone else got leaky boobs? Bought breast pads, but guess this means I need to wear bra to bed now.

Heartburn is killing me - wake up in the middle of the night, convinced I am having a heart attack. Arrgh. Might just give up eating. Which is miserable because there is just so much lovely FOOD here...went to the supermarket for the first time today. Wow.

Waves to everyone!

BusyMissIzzy · 22/02/2010 20:45

AfriBaby I've used Veet twice during this pregnancy; once last week and once a month or so before that. I'm assuming that at this stage it's not awful (obviously wouldn't have used it if I thought it would do any harm!). Avoided it earlier on though, but now I can't see to shave and I just felt the need to do something. Had gotten to the point that I'd be worried they wouldn't be able to find the baby

My heartburn is also escalating; had it for months, but am now waking up with it which never used to happen. And Gaviscon tablets barely do anything any more

MummyElk · 22/02/2010 20:53

hi all!!
love your DH's impression of the hypnobirth lady trying to sell us merchandise at the end of the CDs siamese he's absolutely spot on i have NO idea what she's harping on about by the end!! The weird thing she does at one point tho is say "you only want to put nutritional food into your body for your baby's sake yada yada" and i remember thinking whatEVerrrrrrr but I'm consistently finding myself chomping down fresh fruit , and healthy snacks ...so maybe she is working on me somehow?!! tbh i need all the roughage i can get atm so it's not bad thing (tmi sorry)
Afribaby glad you safe and sound in germany. As for hair removal cream, er, YES you can use it during pg (AFAIK) as my incident with the overenthusiastic Spray On Veet demonstrated a while back. Happy to say the Tufted Eagle is now growing back., am hoping to a bit more regrowth before I attempt a more structured effort.
sorry to hear about breech Mo7+4 but happy to hear about the DS flowers, lady!! very nice!!

Anyone's vision keep going funny? I don't thiiiink it's too much MNing.... it's like my top half of my vision just goes wonky.

Better dash, i can't see the screen anyway and my dinner MUST be ready by now..... [taps foot impatientily]
