...now the "Crazy Baby Ladies"!

Had the idea to start this thread because, after getting my BFP on Monday, it suddenly dawned on me that I was going to lose contact with a lot of lovely people. I feel sad every time anyone leaves (though obviously happy for you that you've got your BFP) and thought this might be a nice idea, so that we can continue to keep in touch. After all, we've been through a lot together, haven't we?!

Also, I felt a bit out of my depth on the other threads, where it seemed like most of the members had already had children. There didn't seem to be a "first-timers" thread on here. (Unless I missed it!)

So here goes!

Yep, add me to the category that found out and then told a bit of a white lie to most people, that the baby wasn't in a good position to find out the gender.

I don't see it as a major issue, it's not going to affect friends and colleagues particularly what gender it is, they're just being curious by wanting to find out ahead of time. Besides, the moment you know the gender they'll want to know the name(s), etc. I prefer to keep a bit of it a mystery for the big annoucement. I think people also have fun guessing, I've had predictions from virtually everyone!

There's always a chance too that the sonographer will be wrong. By not letting most people know, if they do want to buy you any little clothes they have to wait until the baby is born or stick with unisex. It'd be a bit of a guilt trip if lots of people bought lots of little dresses ahead of time, only for a little boy to appear!

Hermya321 · 14/03/2010 14:17

I'm still thinking about the whole telling MIL the sex thing. Now I know that this is not going to be an issue for weeks to come. But, it's been on my mind and I'm trying to work out my thoughts and stance on the whole thing.

I think I might still be a teeny bit hmmm about her telling everybody. At the end of the day she did make a faux pas which did upset me. She has since said sorry and I like to think I've forgiven her, what she did wasn't malicous by any stretch of the imagination.

Now I'm a bit of a control freak with some things and I have an independant streak a mile wide. Ultimately what she's done is take away my control over something that is mine. It's my pregnancy and my news at the end of the day and I think I'm afraid that if I do tell her the sex that she'll get so excited again and that everybody will then just know again, thus once again taking away my choice in the matter.

We have had conversations in the past before I fell pregnant whether or not I would find out and I always said I would. Recently our conversations have included bits where she's mentioned that she can't wait to find out the sex so she knows what kind of stuff to get. I haven't had this from others and it kind of puts me on the defensive. I feel like my choice is once again being taken from me. Now tbh if she hadn't mentioned anything like the above, I would have probably shared what we were having. But the pressure to tell makes me not want to IFYSWIM.

At the end of the day, me and DH want to know so that we can bond a little bit with our LO. Others will want to know so that they can buy either boy or girl clothes.

I'm sorry that this is a long post, I don't have any pregnant friends around me who I can speak to about this. Oh hum!

Bunny Oh you poor thing, I'm sorry that your hormones have taken over. I love Tim Tams though!!! They're one of my favourite things to have with tea.

desperate Thanks for that.

Spirael I think I do want to go down your way of doing things, but I don't want to be dishonest. I think I might just tell the sonographer to nod at girl or boy instead of physically telling us. Then at least I can say, 'Well we asked him not to tell us and he didn't'.

Hermya321 · 14/03/2010 14:50

Also Happy Mothers day to everybody!!!!

fudgecat · 14/03/2010 20:34

Bunny I have some ham. I would be happy to bring some over to you if you want?

hermya have you thought about saying ?its going to be a surprise? that way you aren?t saying that you do or don?t know but people will think you mean you don?t know. Then when she\he does arrive and you are already prepared with pink or blue you can say ?well it was a surprise for you wasnt it? At the end of the day it is 100% your choice so don?t feel pressured into anything.

We have decided not to find out what it will be and wait and see when it pops out. I have spoken to DP about it and have decided that he will be the one to tell me what it is rather than the midwife announcing ?its a ......?

Some good news from me, the spotting has finally stopped I guess I will never find out what was causing it but all seemed ok at Thursdays scan so I am not worried about it anymore.

Before the spotting saga started I had already booked an early scan for this Friday but as I had a scan last Thursday I?m not too sure if I should cancel it or not. What do you lot think?

Just think, this time next year we will all be celebrating out first ever Mothers Days

bunnygirl80 · 15/03/2010 00:08

fudge Thanks for the offer of the ham - sadly if you tried to bring it over it would be confiscated at the border!

Great news that your spotting has stopped. I think if you've already booked an early you scan you might as well still go - the more opportunities to see your bean the better!

Hermya I like fudge's idea of just telling people that the sex of your baby is a surprise - you're not lying that way, as it will be a surprise for them....just not for you

If your MIL can't be trusted to keep her mouth shut then I'd be inclined not to tell her. Although if she has apologised for blabbing before maybe she will be better in future - perhaps she just got overexcited.

DH has decided he is having a sympathy pregnancy! He now reckons he must have known I was pg before I tested as last week he had a craving for chocolate - and he hates chocolate . His baby is special though as apparantly it needs beer to develop properly

I wish I was craving chocolate - I have tried more Tim Tams and they still make me feel nauseous.

The Graduates bit is looking very impressive now, isn't it!

Fudge - excellent and devious way of getting around telling people! Hermya should definitely use that. I'm not going to be finding out either, I really don't mind either way so it will be a fab surprise in the delivery room. I'm glad your spotting has stopped, and you can relax a bit

Bunny - LOL at needing beer to develop I think my baby needs creme eggs and mini cheddars to develop!

Desp - glad you are feeling a bit better, you have had a real run of it

Hermya - I don't think I would tell your MIL - she doesn't sound at all reliable when it comes to that sort of thing. Use Fudge's idea and put on your best innocent face

Well, I'm feeling ok. Still pretty morning-sick on some days - I managed to completely ruin a pair of suede boots last week when I was caught unawares coming home (TMI ) But other than that, just counting the days until my 12 week scan on Friday. Fingers, toes and everything crossed.

bunnygirl80 · 15/03/2010 08:52

pixie the list is looking very impressive - I think over on the other thread the grads list is now longer than the still TTCers list! (this may be partially because I moved all the people on cd 100+ off it as they have obviously deserted us )

Who was it that was nicknamed the walking hormone by their DH - I think it was Hermya - I am soooooooooo going to steal your crown. I really need someone to come and give me an online slap and tell me to pull myself together. So far today I have cried over the following:

  1. I didn't win a gold medal at figure skating on Mario and Sonic go to the winter Olympics and I felt sorry for the character I was playing
  2. My left nipple was really hurting/itching and I couldn't make it stop. On closer inspection there was a sizable chunk of one of the breadsticks I had been munching on earlier stuck to it
  3. I went to make tuna pasta bake for my dinner only to discover that I had forgotten to buy any pasta.

I could have gone and bought more pasta, but I was properly crying with tears and snot everywhere for about half an hour, so now don't want to leave the house for fear of what else might set me off

On the plus side, I did buy some ham earlier and hide it at the back of the fridge so DH won't find it and eat it

The NHS pregnancy tracker thing that I downloaded says I still have 249 days of this madness left....I wonder how much worse I will get!

Spirael · 15/03/2010 12:06

Hi all!

Just reposting the list to hide one of the details on my section. Don't mind you lot knowing, but just on the off chance that someone from my friend/family/colleague group IRL sneaks onto here and makes a guess at my username, I'm making it a little more tricky for them to find!

(Or at least they'd have to wade through a lot more posts, at which point I applaud their determined efforts and they can have the little nugget of info. So long as they keep it to themselves!)

First things first...YEAY FOR BUNNY!!! such fantastic news
Hope the Tim Tam's are not off the menu for long - that would be bad. LOL at DH didnt take long to start to enjoy having a driver
I hope you were able to have dinner in the end.

Hermya - sorry to hear about the car and DH job, how did the interview go today? If it makes you feel any better, i just drove home from Bath with my car shuttering all the way...i think we have water leaking into the oil. It is not long for this earth, which is a real poo because i really wanted it to last until we move in august...oh well more money down the drain hey?
Now about the sex of LO, i think we have finally agreed we will find out, but i am with you i would like to keep it to myself for at least a little while, however i know that DH will be so excited there will be 2 chances of keeping it to himself...i guess you could keep the scan pictures for yourself, towards the end my sisters LO was so clear we knew exactly what he would look like when he came out.

Fudge so glad the spotting has stopped, it is such a scary time isnt it? I really think that we thought getting here was the hard part, now we worry about every twinge and spot. Oh you must be relieved!

despo hope you were able to make it to your mum's yesterday, it cant be fun being so ill. Hope it gets better soon xx

I have had an eventful weekend, we still have aussie visitors here, and on top of that...MIL got a call back about her mammogram (she had breast cancer 5 years ago but had an all clear 2 years ago) they found something, she had a biopsy but has to wait to hear what it is...so a nice big Happy Monthers day for her...NOT. Then Friday night BIL takes girl on a 2nd date, pulls into car park girls ex-husband also pulls in, she says pull out i have a restraining order against him...he then chases them in his car for about 10 mins, girl calls cops and they say meet us at x-pub, they pull into x-pub, no cops! ex-husband punches the window in and attacks BIL! BIL in hospital, his car taken as evidence, girl will not be going on date number 3! So we had to make an emergency trip to the in-laws and leave the aussies to sort them selves out. Came back sunday and took them to Bath for the night so they are happy. In-laws however not so good.
We are home now, DH has been sick all morning I think he is just stressed about everything. Its really sad because in both cases there is really nothing we can do, but we still feel guilty that we are not just around the corner...i am going to put my feet up and rest for the afternoon and try not to think about it.

Hope everyone is well....sorry for being such a long one xxxx

Hermya321 · 15/03/2010 18:20

Thank you for all your advice, I had some from my friend as well (a very unpregnant will never find out the sex if she was ever preggers friend) and she told me that I should be honest with MIL and say that we want to find out but we don't want to tell anybody.

I'm begining to wonder if it's really worth all this stress. I might just sod it all and take my Mums advive 'you can't have one without the other' and just not find out at all. Then nobody can complain to me. DH is willing to go down that route and tbh it's starting to appeal to me as well. Keep everybody guessing!!

On the car side of things, I spent most of the day of the day on the phone to the garage trying to see if the parts for the plastic bagmobile were in. Apparently they're going to be in tomorrow, this is despiet the fact that they were supposed to be there today. Arghhhh!!!

I've had to rearrange work and arrange lifts based on this 'mans' humble opinion. I have a bit of a way to get to work and public transport round these parts is non existant. It's just annoying.

Regarding my DH's interview today, he said it went well. He's not letting himself get too excited as the interviewer said they were seeing quite a lot of people and that he wouldn't hear for some time. So we'll probably be exploring other options in the mean time to see if we can get something else in the pipeline.

Fudge I like that one, I may use it. I'm glad your spotting has stopped though. It's never nice to have that hanging over you is it. Did you decide if you're going to go and have your scan this Friday?

Chance Oh my gosh, it sounds as if your weekend was one heck of a ride. I'm sorry about your BIL, if it helps it sounds as if the cops will have a good chance of getting something from the car and linking it to the ex.

Pixie I don't think we'll be telling in either event to be honest.

Bunny She did just get over excited, there was nothing malcious in it at all. I think I was more affected by it than I thought.

Ozziegirly · 15/03/2010 22:09

Hello there all.

fudge that's great news that the spotting has stopped.

As for all your discussions on finding out the sex. We think we will find out, although we weren't going to, but we figure that when we're in the scan room and there is the opportunity to know, there's no way that we'll say no!

We have said that we won't tell people though. This will be fine for people at work - we are english in australia and are always doing things that i think our work colleagues think are eccentric - but I think our parents will press us to find out. I haven't decided yet as I think it's fun for it to be a surprise for everyone else!

bunnygirl80 · 15/03/2010 22:30

Chance sounds like you've had an eventful few days. I really hope your MILS's biopsy resutls are OK. My MIL had breast cancer 4 years ago, and I know how anxious she gets before her annual checks.

Hermya I hate the way car parts never arrive when the garage says they will. Hope you get the plastic bagmobile fixed soon.

I have a question for you all.

When did you have to start buying new bras? My boobs are so uncomfortable at the moment, and I don't think my current bras are helping. But it seems so early to be getting new ones.

Also, this one's probably aimed at ozzie or pepperoni - where can I buy decent bras in Oz? I haven't needed to venture into underwear buying yet as I stocked up in M&S before we moved. I have no idea where I can get decent underwear that's not ridiculously expensive.

fulhamgirl · 16/03/2010 08:15

Morning ladies so sorry I cant write back to you all as boss is in.

Congratularions bunny u must be so excited. Im so pleased for you.

pepper- Hey babes im ok thanks getting really nervous now as im sure u are as well.

Hope everyone is well I promise I will write a long post to u all soon. I do read the posts just cant really reply as I did the the other day got right to the end and she walked pasted and quickly switched off and lost everything. !!

Nothing to report from me really 2 weeks left at work and I have a very active Lily. My OH was watching in amazment last night as her foot was comming out of my skin and my belly was moving up and down as she was turning. Very strange feeling.

xxxxxxxxxx

WhiteRoses · 16/03/2010 09:10

Hi everyone!

I've fallen behind a bit again but don't have the energy to catch up as thoroughly as before!

Firstly, Bunny - congratulations! Are you still walking round in a daze or has it sunk in yet that you're going to be a mummy?!

Ozzie - how lovely of your DH to keep complimenting you like that. I look SUCH a state right now. I look fat, rather than pregnant, my boobs are saggy without the support of an underwire, my hair's constantly scraped back into a ponytail (not good to wear it loose when throwing up - learned that the hard way... ) I've not bought any nice new maternity clothes yet so am recycling the same three outfits constantly. And as for make-up! There's just no time, between forcing breakfast down, and bringing half of it back up! (Or at best, sitting with my head in my hands, desperately trying not to!) Then there are the black circles under my eyes, from being so tired all the time... Safe to say, I've looked better!

Desperate - hope you're feeling better?

Hermya - sorry to hear about your DH and your car.

Bunny - that seems so insensitive, calling you MIL a male! Imagine it wouldn't be easy coming to terms with a hysterectomy in the first place!

Worrisome - I'm the same - barely any time left to do anything! Hopefully we'll bloom soon! Lol!

Hermya - finding out the gender is a very individual choice... We're going to, and we don't mind everyone knowing. As for names though, I want to keep that to ourselves. DH thinks I'm silly... So we'll see about that one. But I guess you've just got to do whatever you feel comfortable with. If we do keep it secret, I think we'll just say we have names in mind, but want to wait till we meet Baby, before deciding for definite. I don't think those closest to us will push to be told. And if they do, tough! That'll only make me dig my heels in! Lol!

Oh, and my MIL sounds just like yours... Not a bad person, but can't contain herself when she has a secret! That's why we didn't tell her about the pregnancy until 12wks, when we were happy for everyone to know. Even then, she got round to telling DH's brother before he did (which was sad - there's only 11mths between DH and BIL and they've always been very close...) Anyway. BIL is well used to his mum by now!

Hugs for all the walking hormones! Seriously though, ham?! That's terrible!

Did anyone's DH/DP do anything nice for them on Mother's Day?

Fudge - glad to hear the spotting's stopped.

Chance - so sorry to hear you've had such a bad weekend... Still, on the bright side with your MIL, they've obviously done well to spot this at a routine screening, before she noticed herself that anything was up. The earlier they catch these things, the better. And she beat it before. So here's hoping. Can't be easy on any of you though. [hug]

Bunny - I only bought new bras at the weekend there (13wks) but my boobs were unusual in that they didn't "do" anything until 13wks... If you need them, you need them. I take it you know to avoid underwires?

Fulham - glad to know you're doing well. I SOOOOO can't wait to feel movement! Seems ages away yet! See what you said about switching off and losing everything though..? You know you could always keep doing "Ctrl" & "a" (select all) and "Ctrl" and "c" (copy) while you're typing? That way, even if you have to switch off, when you re-open the page and press "Ctrl" and "v" (paste) you'll get your message back... Not that I'm encouraging you to be deceptive, of course!

Right, last thing I wanted to say/ask... Who was it that had pictures up of their bump? There were two pictures, and you were wearing a black top. I thought it was either Curly or Spireal but it seems I'm wrong... I wanted to know how many weeks that bump was... Think it was 16 but then it was big so I'm not sure... I really want a bump now (sop sick of looking fat!) and if that was 16wks, I'm 14wks tomorrow...

Just updating the list, because, Pepperoni, you told us ages ago that you were having a boy, but it doesn't seem to have been on the list for a while now... Poor Dylan was left looking all lonely! Is everyone else still right?

No... Just saw that Lily was spelled with an extra L, Fulham... So aside from those two..?

(I'm a geek, I know... )

Hi all, still not caught up cause the nicer weather drew me outdoors at the weekend and away from the computer.

white it was me - the pic was on my grumpy gasper profile. I've put it back on now. It was taken on March 1, which puts it at 19+5 I think. From mid feb (18 weeks) the growth has been rapid, so not long now for your belly expansion. I do love my bump, but it's starting to get in the way a bit!

Thank you Curly! I was starting to think I'd imagined it! So another four weeks or so... Maybe I'll just start wearing my swimming costume into work! I look pregnant in that!

Morning all! No probs at all, Pixie. I'm not too concerned to be honest, the likelihood of someone hunting me down on MN and finding out is slim. However just on the off chance that they do, I may as well make it a bit more of a challenge!

No, the bump photos weren't me, WhiteRoses. Thus far I've successfully dodged any photos being taken (scans aside!) while pregnant, which is something I intend to continue as long as possible.

However I do have a wedding to attend in May, so I suspect I could be caught up there in photos... Though I'll be taking my own camera so I can hopefully hide behind it most of the time.

Not too much to report here, really. Been finally feeling some more definite movements (about time, at nearly 22 weeks!) including the odd wallop as LO evidently takes a good swing at me. Not too worried though when everything seems quiet, now that I know the placenta is providing a bit of a cushion. Given the strength of some of the kicks, I'm actually kinda grateful...

Mostly I'm clockwatching currently. Not got my next MW appointment until April; also in April I have a week booked for decorating the nursery, and for when the pram and cot will be delivered, which is quite exciting. I've now booked my birthing pool from the end of June too, I can imagine it'll be so nice to sit in of an evening, especially if it's been warm.

DH has raised the somewhat depressing issue that we should probably go about writing a will now, so that everything is in place for the LO if we both expire, or for the remaining partner if one of us does. Not a particularly happy thing to do, but it probably is a good idea to get it sorted!

Haa, I type too slow... (Or too much?) X post with Curly and WhiteRoses.

Hey ladies, like whiteroses I keep getting left behind on this thread, as I struggle to stay awake and keep up with everyone!

I've been signed off work for the week with severe morning sickness. Wed,Thurs, Fri and Sat of last week were a nightmare, I kept having to do a runner from the classroom at work to go and be sick. I struggled to keep any food down. And even when I did it wasn't much. Hubs made me giggle when he said I could eat anything as long as it was beige! Which is true, bless him he'd noticed that toast, pasta, mini cheddars and rich teas were all kind of beige in colour Anyhow I went to the docs yesterday, she didn't seem overly concerned at my limited diet, but agreed with me in that the long hours at work were certainly not helping, so she signed for off and ordered me to rest.

I've got my 1st scan tomorrow evening and I'll freely admit, I'm cacking myself, I;ve convinced myself that something is wrong. I just hope all will be ok.

whiteroses sorry to hear you're not really much better

Spirael Wills, were not something I'd thought about, but now you've mentioned it, its a really good idea!

Casper glad to hear your scan went well, yay to expecting a little boy, how exciting!

Sorry if I've missed people out, too many posts to go back through. Hope everyone is good

You'll never guess what I found out today, it turns out my Mum has been blabbing to EVERYBODY as well.

So Fudge I'm taking your advice, I'm finding out and everyone else will be told that it's going to be a surprise. I don't care, I'm fed up of getting texts off of people congratulating me on my pregnancy when they shouldn't even know. If they can't be trusted to keep stuff to themselves when I told them not to tell people then why should I trust them with this.

So that as they say is that!

On the sympton side of things, I'm so tired at the moment. I almost fell asleep at work today, I haven't been sleeping well at all. I've been getting really anxious about the most stupid of things. I'm trying to relax but it doesn't help when I'm not eating properly due to nausea. I'm going to go and see the Docs and see if theres anything they can do.

Bunny Hows it going be an walking hormone, I must admit I think mine have come back into play big style.

White Thanks for that! I think I've made up my mind though, I have a feeling that if we do say we know we'll be in for a bit of a battle on some fronts for us to tell. But, well I can be pretty stubborn when I want to be as well LOL. I'll just buy a few neutral things instead of getting boy/girl stuff. It doesn't bother me.

Hobnob Oh I am sorry, I hope you feel better soon me dear.

Siprael It must be so exciting to feel your LO kicking. I can't wait for that.

Curly Congrats on the little boy (I don't know if I said that before )
