Getting us started with our new thread!

Will cut and paste the most up to date list so we know where we are.

Congratulations FOF. You were due the day before me - I'm just keeping everything crossed that baby doesn't decide to arrive in this snow as I won't be delivering at the MLU if she does as it took us an hour and a half to get there in the snow last month..
Was supposed to be going there for labour and birth class tomorrow which has been cancelled due to the snow - so I have had 1 antenatal class which was post natal and totally useless. That was at the local DGH where I will have to go if I go into labour in the snow.

I read the other day that they are going for Baby Friendly status - which is a comedy. Their breastfeeding rates on discharge are something like 55%. The breastfeeding segment of the AN class was about 5 minutes - and the MW actually said "if you decide you don't want to BF we won't bother wasting our time with you encouraging you to breastfeed".

sockmonkey · 08/01/2010 10:57

More babies!! Congratulations Flight and baby Edward.

Have decided baby needs to stay put a bit longer. DH has come down with an almost terminal case of Man-flu. Can't have him passing on germs to the baby.

Kids back at school today so plenty of trudging around in the snow for me today

whensmydayoff · 08/01/2010 11:07

Congratulations FOF. That blows my theory of boys & girls right out the water, ha!

ALI so sorry to hear the nightmare and stress you've been through, not fair. I hope now its all behind you and you can enjoy your little boy.

theminniebauble · 08/01/2010 11:33

hello all,
apologies for my absence- baby Freddie arrived on new year's day!

To cut a long story short, I was hopsitalised the day after boxing day with increasing blood pressure. I really didn't want a C section so they tried to induce for 4 days to no avail.

He ended up having to come out on New Year's day through section which I was upset about. But..... literally as soon as they scooped him out of me my blood pressure shot through the roof, it all got a bit Holby City and I effectively missed out on the first 24 hours of his life. DH was great and baby and I are thriving now although the pressure of it all has meant that Breast feeding hasn't been the success I wanted it to be which is a blow.

To be honest I am just very grateful that we are both healthy and happy though. DS is GORGEOUS!

Massive congratulations to everyone who has had an arrival on the thread (I do need to go back and look in detail.) I have everything crossed and am thinking of all you who are still to go x x x

bigpreggybelly · 08/01/2010 12:21

Does anyone else, as they approach their due date, want to tell their relatives to f* off, leave them alone and stop wanting to come round all the time, or phone or email all the time, or is it just me??

I don't know how I'm gonna feel from one hour to the next. Emotionally or phsically, consequently I don't feel like entertaining and having to pretend its all hunkydory and just want to crawl into a hole and not come out til the baby is out.

Am I normal?

Oh my - so much to catch up on!

Crumpette - sending you virtual hugs, you are not having a great time with your DP at the moment are you? So hugs for your and a huge bloody slap around the face for your DP!

Ali - more virtual hugs. Really hope and pray that your family's health picks up shortly and you are able to enjoy some time with Jacob x

Natapilar - my baby was officially due yesterday too. However, had c/s on 29/12. Fingers crossed things get going for you soon. It's not nice hanging around too long after due date (I know as previous two pgs were 9 and 10 days late)!

Quirkychick - your poor DD. That sounds horrid. Hope GP can get her some meds soon.

TheGrumpallo - I've heard loads of good things about that acupuncture method too. My little one spent entire 3rd trimester pivoting between breech, transverse and occasional cephalic. I wasn't too worried as had a planned c/s, but I was scanned a couple of hours before c/s took place and she was transverse. When they started putting the spinal in place, she turned to head down! I was 38+5 - so there is still a chance for you that your baby will turn all of its own accord.

Biccy - congrats on the iron levels! Now get your arse in gear and get ready for your longed for home birth!

FlightofFancy - WOW. Many many congratulations. What a lovely birth! Bet your second will be quick !

TheMinnieBauble - many many congrats to you too! Sounds a bit horrific but as you say, let's be grateful you are both doing well. Can you let us know the birth weight please and I will update the list!

BigPreggyBelly - YES, you are completely normal! I went 9 and 10 days over with previous 2 pgs and it was hell for me but the family and friends made it even worse! Baby will come when he/she is ready - not a lot you can do really .

My news is that Olivia and I were signed off today from the midwife at our 10 day check. Olivia has regained her birth weight plus an extra 2oz so now tips the weighing scales at 6lb 4oz. My wound is apparently "beautiful" and lo and behold I can see my ankles today! Oedema starting to recede HOORAH!!!!

Feeling a very happy and lucky mummy.
x

somewhathorrified · 08/01/2010 13:19

Congratulations to all the new mommies and LO's that seem to be arriving everyday now. I'm still struggling with the concept that we have all arrived at this point, time has flown by.

My EDD is tomorrow, legs still crossed though as I still have this cold! (Poor DH is struggling with it too now although sent him off to buy extreme drugs for himself as it's silly for both of us to suffer).

Does anyone esle feel like there's something really important that they've forgotten to do in preperation for their LO's arrival? It's so annoying!

devotion · 08/01/2010 13:51

FlightofFancy - wow congratulations and welcome to Edward, so nice to hear a great birth story too minus the nip - ooooooh! Plenty of tea tress oil baths and take arnica. Can you tell how much i love arnica, lost count of how many times i've mentioned it on here . and another boy too - hoooray!

TheMinnieBauble - Congratulations to you too, sorry to hear about the traumatic time you had. My friend had almost a similar experience but she was given a general for the c-sec and when awoke baby was whisked away and she saw him the next day. Her second birth was 8 hours, straightforward natural birth with no problems so dont let it put you off

I hope you are getting lots of tlc while you recover.

Take care x x x x

who's next????

sockmonkey · 08/01/2010 14:08

Congratulations theminibauble
More boys arriving now to even up the numbers. Hope you are soon back to normal and healed fully.

Southwestwhippet · 08/01/2010 14:21

Afternoon everyone,

congratulations to FlightofFancy and theminniebauble. How lovely to have your babies at last. Hope you are well on the mend theminniebauble - sounds scarey, I'm glad you and baby are ok.

I had my MW appointment with ANOTHER bank MW today, was a bit disapointed as I've only met my official MW once and I am booked for a HB - feel I will be inviting a total stranger into my house but what can you do? Bank MW was lovely and very understanding, she actually created an extra appointment for me to see my official MW if I make it to 40weeks. Anyone else had trouble seeing their official MW like this?

Biccy · 08/01/2010 15:41

Congratulations flightoffancy and minniebauble, great news! Well done.

Thank you CTOFN, I am marching on with my plans now for homebirth. Tried to get plastic sheeting in local hardware shop today, but they didn't do it. Tried to get absorbent mats in the chemists - but would have had to buy a bundle of 30 and don't want that many. I'll get there.

Southwestwhippet, I've only seen my 'official' MW twice, but as there's no guarantee it would be her attending the HB if it goes ahead, I have been happy really to meet as many MWs as possible - who will attend your HB? Definitely your official MW, or could it be a bank MW?

bigpregbelly, I think you're very normal. I am currently longing just to be alone at the moment. I feel awful because I keep finding excuses to wander away from dd. (I did take her to a cafe for lunch today, and we had a lovely shower together this morning, and a dolly bathing & dressing session, so she is not totally neglected...).

I am also incredibly frustrated at how slow I am; it just seems to take me forever to do anything - and it seems to be a mixture of physical and mental obstacles. Am obviously physically quite slow, but also my brain seems to have come to a complete standstill.

Oh, I got that awful pain under the bump, just on one side, when turning over in the night last night. Woke up shouting 'ow, ow, ow'... really freaked DP. I was doubled up in agony trying to get to the loo to pee, but I think it was just down to turning in my sleep without lifting up my knees. Am a bit nervous actually, as had a really unsettled night, up every hour or so; and that was exactly how things started first time round, but I am just not ready for this baby to come out yet! (Although I'd quite like to stop stretching my tummy!).

Brasso4 · 08/01/2010 15:42

Congratulations FlightofFancy and theminniebauble some boys to balance things up!

I love the name Edward, that was our choice of boys name if we were having a boy. Obviously if the scan got it wrong, we could still have an Edward too!

At last made it out of the house properly today, went into town, had my eyebrows done, met DH for lunch and did a bit of shopping - it felt so good to be out and about.. bit fed up of the snow now.

Good news CTOFN, glad everything is going so well!

quirkychick · 08/01/2010 16:43

Congratulations to all the new babies and mummies!

Thank you to everyone for well wishes for dd. We went to the gp and he sent urine sample off and has put her on abs. Dp will have to phone surgery on Weds (I will be in hospital) to check the results and see if her abs will need adjusting. She doesn't seem so bad today, which is a relief. Gp also checked me to see if I have chest infection from this cold but my chest is clear - hurray!

I went for my pre-op appointment today which took ages. Sometimes the NHS is so inefficient! We were asked to come in early due to the weather and then sent to get bloods. The blood test people didn't call anyone in for 1/2 hr as I suppose they didn't know we were already there. Also, I had a blood count test which I had already had on weds for the same consultant. Anyway, a very medical day.

Hi all huge congrats to Minniebauble and baby Freddy and also Flightoffancy - and little Edward-37+3 wow he is a good weight and was def ready to come out he was done cooking!

The 27th Jan- def seems far for me-but just holding in here and coping! kids went school today and now the weekend so great more time of them being home making noise and making food demands!

ordered my maxicosi carseat from john lewis today its getting well exciting now knowing my baby things will arrive soon - makes it more real!

baby shower tomo - want it over with now!!!!

Hope all with colds, flu and general unwell will get well soon xx

sockmonkey · 08/01/2010 17:00

Crumpette - with ds2 I had a show within a couple of hours of having a sweep then went into labour the next day. There is hope! I really didn't want to be induced a second time either.
Can't remember who said about wanting to be left alone... But yes. I really just want to stay home, not really had problems with relatives as they live quite a bit away, but could really do without the school run and other going out of the house commitments. Sigh.

crumpette · 08/01/2010 17:04

sockmonkey- bringer of hope! I salute you!

yeah I really would rather avoid the whole process, may go and do some star jumps or something !

Then again I have unpacked my whole hospital bag as I realised most of it is unnecessary so chances are I will go into labour if I leave it unpacked but if I diligently do some vacuuming, cleaning and hospitalbagpacking nothing will happen!

crumpette · 08/01/2010 17:09

re wanting relatives to leave you alone... I have solved that problem only one family member knows I am pregnant!!!

I keep meaning to tell them...
and then I think how much funnier it will be to meet them with a baby instead

CantThinkofFunnyName · 08/01/2010 17:11

Crumpette - good luck then for tomorrow. Guess we won't hear from you for a little while? Maybe a silly question, but is your DP being supportive at least for the birth/induction tomorrow? Hope all goes splendidly and can't wait to hear the news! x

alibobins · 08/01/2010 18:22

crumpett good luck for tomorrow or tonight if labour starts on its own

So many babies already we seem to have lots of impatient babies arriving

Southwestwhippet · 08/01/2010 19:38

Best of luck crumpett
