Fraochsmum · 04/01/2010 09:45

Just back from the mat unit and all is well - was quite worried when I couldn't feel movements, but the heartbeat is strong so no worries. Now I'm just trying to get the last minute things packed and get the bubba moving!!! If I don't go 24 hours after water go then I have to go to Glasgow and the forecast is atrocious
Thanks for the good wishes hurrydown and we can share our excitement Salvadory!! I hope all goes well for you, I'm not having contractions yet either btw - good luck xxx

sockmonkey · 04/01/2010 09:45

MrsVik · 04/01/2010 09:58

I haven't checked in on here for AGES!

Congrats to all the new mummies!

Due on the 15th, no signs yet, but the baby is measuring big, so maybe I'll get the record for heaviest Jan baby.

Good luck all, and have a great day.

ampster · 04/01/2010 10:24

good luck fraosh and salv! v. of those with shows, BHs and so on... no labour signs here!

not due till 19th jan but trying to get in the zone early as don't want this child to be induced like the last one was.

bethoo · 04/01/2010 10:35

well i am overdue by a day today so bit gutted! she is apparantly engaged but her bottom is still under my rib cage so she may be long. my stomach is huge but all baby so still trying not to think about the birth.
had big falling out with my mum so think she is out of my life now. too upsetting to think about tbh but the things she came out with were horrendous.
anyway congrats to all the new babies and i say it with envy

Mama2b5 · 04/01/2010 11:45

Fraosh & Salv- Good Luck i hope all goes well with you both wonderful birthing vibes to you both you will soon be holding LO in your arms!!!!!

Devo/Saz - my DH is stalking me telling me "this time next week his coming"!he is so excited he just cant wait no more! ermm neither can i, but not letting him know that!

We have outstanding works to be done and the contractors are dragging it out so at this rate i will be in a hotel after baby is born and not in my home!it is in the main part of the house girls room, hallway, bathroom and our room! feeling down because i cant fix up baby spot in room for dust and stuff will go all over it! so am nesting, but not to how i want!!!!!

Ordering my StoKKe today!!! from kiddisave the cheapest!

ahh for those who are waiting it will all be over soon, babies come when ready and we have no control over it!

mistletoekisses · 04/01/2010 11:45

Morning all!!!

How exciting Fraoch and Salva, looks as though our babies are starting to arrive. Although am now siding with those who are at all the lovely bubs beginning to get ready to make their appearances. I think my LO is well and truly comfy.

Bethoo - i hope you dont mind me saying so, but you seem to be having an absolute shocker! Are you ok?

Shiny - how are you LO's?

Ali - am really hoping little Jacob is doing ok.

Devotion - your homebirth sounds heavenly! Makes me want to reconsider elec cs! But only for a fleeting moment.

Well life is back to normal today. DH at work. DS at nursery. Am missing them both lots. But then I guess the fact that it isnt every day is what makes holidays so special.
Hope everyone else doing ok.

Xposts mama2b. Hope all your building works get sorted.

On the Stokke front, my only advice is to check that Kiddisave have the Stokke in stock and will despatch soon. I ordered my Stokke a few years back from a place where it was cheapest...and 6 weeks later, despite numerous promises, it had not been delivered.

I ended buying all my Stokke stuff from a place called backinaction. Every order from them has been delivered next day via courier. Really recommend them. Plus when I had a problem with the Stokke chassis, they switched it straight out.

quirkychick · 04/01/2010 12:04

Fraoch and Salva best of luck for you both. My bil and sil are in Glasgow and yes the forecast is awful. Hopefully it won't be necessary.

Bethoo I hope you have someone there to support you, bump and the kids.

mistletoe I am envious of you on your own. Dp took dd to pre-school and they came back as it was closed. I was hoping to make the most of some child free time before c-s on tues next week. Our forecast isn't great so unlikely she will be in before I go to hospital.

On a happier note my cold seems to be going, finally. I don't think the post-natal ward would really want me coughing all over mums and babes!

I'm frantically hoping that bump stays put until elcs as parents not back until next wk. We have got friends and neighbours lined up in case but dd has quite a bit of asthma medication so slightly complicates anyone looking after her.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 04/01/2010 12:17

Devotion - I AM so in love. It's funny, but just every time I look at her, my heart completely melts.

Fraochs - OMG OMG OMG!! How fantastic So hoping that you start your contractions soon though so that you don't have to contend with the trip to Glasgow. Have you worked out who you are going to text from the list? You are welcome to text me if you like - top of the list Mistletoe sent around. x

Salv - welcome and good luck to you too! Keep us all informed!

Shiny - you really don't need to apologise about not being on here much. Sounds like you totally have your hands full. Really hoping you and your family a speedy recovery. x

Lottie - ah, I feel for your DH if he has put his back out, back ache is horrid but I'm also with you on your right to be pissed off that he was an arse before it happened so therefore you don't care how much pain he's in - you're recovering from a c/s, you've been carrying twins for 9 months, complete with all the traumas that brought to you and now you have to care for those twins, pretty much alone and him too?!?!?!

It's natural for you to feel that way. I certainly would.

Bethoo - Jesus H Christ. Is there anything else you are going to have to deal with this pregnancy? So wish that you/we were nearer as I feel compelled to try to help you out in any way I can.

Mistletoe - my buddy; how lovely that you are missing DH & DS today . However, enjoy your time and space, do something nice for yourself. You're on a countdown now. x

And finally - I mentioned I had pretty awful oedema right? To give you some idea - take a look at these figures:

Weight going into hospital: 12st 5lb
Baby: 6lb 2 1/2 oz
Placenta taken out
Lots of other engorged blood vessels and clots suctioned out (read: lots more fluid taken away)...
Weight this morning on same scales: 12 st!

So - only 5lb lost, which is less than the baby. With both other pregnancies I lost 1.5 st immediately ie within one day of the birth due to placenta/fluids etc.

How the hell does that work? I knew my feet, legs etc were pretty awful but taking a look at the figures makes me understand just how much water retention there is!

Going to have a moan about that to the mw later when she comes.

Oh well - doing sweet FA today other than putting feet up to try to get rid of this swelling, feeding, cuddling and playing on computer trying to sort out photos for printing etc!

skidoodle · 04/01/2010 13:33

Hello everyone, haven't posted here since the summer, but thought I'd stop by and see if any January babies had arrived yet. Looks like you've had a busy December

Congratulations to everyone who has their baby (or babies) already.

I'm due next Wednesday, but at my mw app the baby was transverse, so I could well be looking at an ELCS (after an EMCS last time).

Best of luck to everyone still waiting, especially fraoch and salvadory - will check back to look for news of the first baby actually born in January

I finished work on Christmas Eve, but today feels like the first day of maternity leave as DH is back at work and DD and I are home alone together.

Nice to hear I'm not the only one who's not dying for it all to be over - I don't feel ready for this baby at all. It seems to be some massive failure of imaginations, particularly as I've done it before.

Shakes labour pompoms from the sidelines for fraoch and salv!

Wraps warm duvet round Bethoo, I hope you have someone around you can lean on.

Sounds the same as I was CTOFN with the swelling. Monday before DS arrival
13st 2
8 pound 3 baby and placenta out Tuesday
Tues-fri living on fruit and all the healthy options on hospital menu, as appalled at my size (pre-preg 9st 3)!
Friday get home, 13 st 2 !
But a week later had lost 1st, and had a very wet bed from all the sweating, would recommend sleeping on a towel, it all comes away suddenly overnight!!

Looking forwards to that falling in love feeling, and of seeing DS and baby meet for the first time, hopefully it will go well, and will be one of those moments where you 'take a picture with your heart'! [slushy]

Fraochsmum · 04/01/2010 14:44

Hi folks! Still here!!!
Thank you so much for all your kind wishes - especially the pompoms! I would welcome any advice for getting contractions started tho...
I am having regular 'tightenings' at around 10 minute intervals, but they are by no means strong or painful. Sounds ridiculous to moan about that I have been for a 1 1/2 mile walk, had my breakfast & lunch, made crib up, tidied away clothes, finished packing bag, & drunk my raspberry leaf tea. Just about to go for a bath with lavender milk that mw gave me this morning, and will pop back up after I think. I am still leaking waters tho, I swear since 6am!! Have already finished a whole pack of maternity pads
Thanks CTOFN, I will get DH to send you a text when time comes (unless it's unfeasibly early of course!).
Bethoo - huge hugs xxx
All the best to everyone else and fingers crossed salvadory x

sazlocks · 04/01/2010 15:06

Fraochsmum - Some TMI suggestions to get things moving again is to do some nipple or clitoral stimulation. Walking up and down the stairs sideways is supposed to help as well but not sure why !
Good luck to you and Salvadory

Still -1 here and the road outside is a sheet of ice so DS and I feeling a little trapped in the house as I am frightened of falling over if I go out ! Answers on a postcard as to how to keep a very nearly 2 year old entertained as we have already done drawing, lots of reading, playing and had a (gentle!) pillow fight which set off such fierce braxton hicks that note to self not to do that again!

CantThinkofFunnyName · 04/01/2010 15:31

Fraochs - if you are having regular 10min tightenings, you may well be on your way. It seems to me that you are going to be one of these v v v lucky women who sail through the early stages of labour without any bother at all. I say that on the story of your sweep! You're obviously a very strong woman, physically and mentally and will probably lie there with your beautiful baby in your arms at the end wondering what all the fuss is about! . Of course, if I am wrong, I want to hear all the gory details about how horrendous it was, just to make me feel I am not a complete and total wimp !!

Maygirl - I sooooo needed to hear that, thank you! I too, have been eating salads, loads of veg, fruit etc as pre-preg weight was 9st 2lb and that was a bit up from my usual 8 1/2 st! Also, forgot to add that I lost 1200ml of blood in the op too!

Anyway, have been ordered to put laptop down and have a nap whilst Olivia is sleeping!

x

Southwestwhippet · 04/01/2010 16:03

Oooo Fraochs regular 10min tightenings does sound exciting (is that the right word !) Wishing you a speedy arrival.

Bethoo sounds really upsetting and horrid, I hope you are ok and someone is looking after you.

I've had a lovely relaxing day - DP is back at work so it is just me and the dogs. I went and spent a bit of time with my lovely pony and walked round his field. It is -2 but the sun is shining and I felt really energetic for the first time in weeks. Pony, on the other hand, absolutely loathes me at the moment, I guess I must smell really wierd with all the pre-birth hormones. I mostly had to admire him from a distance today

Just going to try my hand at making a lasgna - I am shockingly undomesticated on the cooking front, I guess I'm going to have to learn now that I'm about to become a mum.

Brasso4 · 04/01/2010 17:07

Good luck Fraochs and Salvo! Hope everything goes swimmingly...

Well I have started maternity leave this evening, had my last day at work and now off for a whole year!! Can't tell whether I am excited or not - a bit of a culture shock for a career woman like me!

Not due for 3 weeks but as far as I am concerned, she can come any time she wants now!!!

Apologies for mild expletives

shiny hope your DCs are doing well

alibobins anxious to hear how little Jacob is getting on

I have to say I am not one of those eager for baby to stay put much longer.. I have reached the point where every morning I wake up wanting to cry when I realise I am still pregnant and showing no signs of labour at all (I think leg cramps and sleeplessness and new symptom of agonising pain in left hip have something to do with it) but yeah, eugh! I think my main fear is that he will be really really big if he doesn't arrive soon and he will get stuck! [sorry!]

whensmydayoff · 04/01/2010 19:07

crumpette Im so sorry you are having to put up with his weird moods/behaviour.
I can't imagine how your homrmones are coping, how selfish of him.

Ive heard loads of men going through weird behaviour before the birth of a new baby. Frankly I just want to slap them all!

Good luck fraoch and Salv, very exciting.

CTFN I was exact same with DS. I had loads of probs in PG and swelling like you describe....

Started at 9 stone 2lb
ended at 12.5 (so just like you)
5lb 15oz baby, huge double placenta (they think he started as a twin but had huge bleed at 12 weeks)
Blood, fluid
went home 6 days after CS
Weighed....12 stone 5lb .

Something to do with placenta usually regulates fluid and body doesn't recognise PG has ended after CS so fluid goes to all the wrong places. Can last weeks but will improve week by week.

You sound like your having a lovely time with your Olivia.

I am madly in love too but have totally hit the wall with exhaustion. She now feeds every 1.5 hours - 2 hours during the night and barley settles inbetween.

She also feeds every 2-2.5 hours during the day but they are small feeds. Tried topping her up with EBM but not helped.

Today I left a bottle of EBM with DH and went for a walk in the snow for an hour then visited my mum for a chat, just to feel less stressed. Worked a treat and DH had bath waiting when I got home !
Just dreading tonight as it is really exhausting me and evenings are hellish. Need sleep!

Sorry, moan over.

What is happening with ali. What was her last post? I know feeding was going badly and Jacob had cold? Has there been any further?

Done it again, By time I get so far I forget what everyone has typed and forget what I was going to say to other MN'rs.

whensmydayoff · 04/01/2010 19:12

gawd, just read back my post. Moany faced ungrateful cow.
I have NOTHING to complain about and other people are having REAL problems.

Feel guilty for moaning about a baby who is feeding. I remember what it's like to have one that doesn't and it's worse - sorry .

CantThinkofFunnyName · 04/01/2010 20:18

WMDO - I didn't read your post as moany at all. Crikey - the amount of moaning I've done the past 9 months, nothing can sound moany to me anyway !

I'm not surprised you're exhausted and you shouldn't feel that its ungrateful to complain. Looking after a newborn baby that is breastfed is absolutely exhausting, mainly because the feeds are very long and very frequent and very draining on your body. If you've had a vaginal birth, you're also up and about just getting on with life and other chores - it's hard to do it all. Don't beat yourself up and do try to take some time for naps whenever you can. Stuff everything else - it's just not important.

I decided to express a bit yesterday and got a nice little feed out for Olivia, was really chuffed with myself after thinking for 9 months that I wouldn't have any milk supply due to previous reduction. However, today has not produced any milk at all, despite several attempts to express. I get literally a few drips (sorry TMI) but basically spent £35 on express pump for one feed!

I can see though that I am really lucky at the moment by formula feeding Olivia, she has a good fill, I wind her, change her (whole process about an hour) and then she goes back to sleep, to wake pretty much 4 hours to the dot after she started her feed.

Having breastfed previously I am thanking my lucky stars for this "textbook" feed/sleep pattern.

Still thinking of Fraochs!
